I received an electronic ARC from Disney Book Group through NetGalley.
Baloney and his three friends have several adventures in this first book of a new series. The humor will appeal to mid-elementary students. The simple to follow text and brightly colored illustrations put the emphasis on friendship and fun. This is a next step book for those who love Willem's Elephant & Piggie series. This pig, horse, bee and rabbit entertain us for years. Looking forward to more in the series.
This little gem of an early reader/graphic novel was a delight. I can see recommending this to many of our library patrons looking for something like Elephant & Piggie or Narwhal & Jelly. I hope there are more planned as this was a fun one that my kids are going to love too!
Really cute illustrations. The actual comics weren’t for ya, but I did enjoy the colors and the drawings.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was done in the style of a graphic novel, which usually isn't my style for a book. The pictures were cute and the stories too. I think this would be a great beginning book for kids interested in graphic novels or comic books.
Baloney and Friends is a perfect start for future graphic novel readers. This is a perfect book for beginning readers. Since the characters are so silly it would also be perfect for a reluctant reader. Get ready to laugh and giggle with children ages 5-9.
I enjoyed this cute, funny graphic novel told in short chapters. The how-to-draw pages in the back will make for an extra bonus which kids will appreciate.
Ever since Elephant & Piggie entered the field of early readers, they've set the standard for both interest and quality. Even though the duo has technically retired, their legacy lives on through the Elephant & Piggie Like Reading series. Baloney and Friends follows this standard with bold, clean illustrations, flat swaths bright color, and cheeky conversation. While this isn't quite as successful as its model, those who enjoy Elephant & Piggie will likely find much to enjoy here. A solid enough choice for an early reader series.
This book was received as an ARC from Disney Book Group - Disney-Hyperion in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I was smiling from ear to ear throughout the book and I was so fascinated by the hysterical stories including the magic show and the reactions to all of the characters that I could not stop laughing and wanting to read more and more. I also love the drawings and illustrations here in the book that they totally relate to the plot and I could not put the book down. I know our readers will get a kick out of this book and I hope their are more Baloney adventures to share with our young readers.
We will consider adding this title to our JGraphic Novel collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
A series of short comic-style stories with lots of humor. A good read-alike for fans of Narwhal and Jelly or Elephant and Piggie fans looking for something longer. Recommended purchase for all beginning reader or early chapter book collections.
This is one of those silly stories that are so fun for kids to read. Baloney breaks the fourth wall, and leaves it broken, as he tells stories about he and his friends, from doing lame magic, to being afraid to go into a wading pool to what being blue means.

Baloney is the pig, Peanut is the horse, Bizz is the bee, and Krabbit is the cranky rabbit.
All lovable in their own ways, and totally relatable to kids, because, who hasn't tried to do magic trips that don't quite work, or learned to swim, or felt sad from time to time.
Fun to read for parents and kids.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
When I saw that Greg Pizzoli had written another book, Baloney and Friends, I knew I needed to get my hands on this one. It is full of hilarious and tender moments of friendship throughout the short stories. All readers, emergent and experienced will enjoy Baloney and his friends magical friendship.
Sure to fly off the shelves. Thanks #netgalley for the advanced copy.
This book has adorable illustrations but is very random feeling. However, it's at an awesome level for young readers and those who read Elephant & Piggie will enjoy it.
What a cute book! This book is so much fun and is filled with lively illustrations. This will be a great read for the littles who are fans of Elephant & Piggie. The addition of "chapters" will help encourage readers who are not quite ready for chapter books and help them feel successful. Overall though, this is just a fun book! Thank you NetGalley for the E-arc
Hmm. Not sure about this one. It’s billed as a graphic novel, but if I purchase it for my library I think I’ll put it in the easy reader section. I didn’t find the humor as punchy and clever as other recent easy reader releases, though—like the Hello, Crabby series; the Jack series by Mac Barnett; or the Monkey and Cake series. On the fence. Greg Pizzoli’s always got some appeal, but this definitely didn’t rock me.
Our house loved Greg Pizzoli, so when we say a new title by him, we were pumped. Then we opened this set of graphic novellas about Baloney and his friends and we could not have been happier! Baloney is the narrator who is trying to tell the stories, but his friends have a way of taking over every story and it is hilarious. Kids will love the humor, the illustrations and the adventures the friends engage in. We hope that Baloney has more coming our way!
My kids will pretty much read anything by Pizzoli. Baloney and friends are cute and funny. Hand to students who like Piggie and Gerald or Ballet Cat.
I really enjoyed this easy graphic novel. It will be great to hand to younger children that are still getting the hang of chapter books who want to delve into graphic novels. The art was cute with great colors. The stories were funny and just long enough. I look forward to more adventures of Baloney and his friends. I'd hand this to children reading at a 2nd-3rd grade level.
All the personalities show up for the antics in this comedic early reader book that showcases emotions, humor, friendship and it is hands down irrisistable!
Baloney and Friends, the newest book by Geisel Medalist author Greg Pizzoli, is sure to be a hit with emerging readers. The book is comprised of several short stories told in comic format. The four animal characters are simply and colorfully illustrated.
Readers who aspire to popular graphic novel series, but aren't quite ready will find their happy place in this story. The last comic encourages readers to re-read the text, which is beneficial to both parents and teachers who struggle with kids saying they have "nothing to read". There are also instructions on how to draw each of the characters in the back pages and children can be invited to create their own Baloney stories.
This book will appeal to readers ages 5-8 who have enjoyed the Narwhal and Jelly or Unlimited Squirrel series.
This book was provided free as a digital ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I received a free digital ARC from NetGalley. Great for early readers who love Elephant and Biggie and Jan Thomas.
