Brilliant, entertaining and would make a fabulous gift for anyone!!!!!

German illustrator Valérie Minelli is the hand behind the webcomic Mrs.Frollein - a collection of greyscale cartoons spotlighting quiet moments of love and life. It’s deliberately sweet.

Some are hilarious and I laughed myself to the brink of a hysterical chasm during the first section - Spring. Others are more heartfelt or are reflections on consumerism, reading, Instagram behaviour, hot summer nights, houseplants, the advent of Christmas, and cooking habits. Minelli’s superpower is her ability to recognise the potential in quite ordinary moments of life.

There is an intimate side to the collection as well - how a couple interact quietly in their home, the shower, the bedroom. At times reading Small Hours feels voyeuristic.

The artwork is deceptively simple, with plenty of relaxing grey and white space. At their best, the lines wield great power: as the eye follows the sequence in Waking Up Next To Him (78), the snoring of the boy seems almost audible; Minelli has captured something of a flip book effect here. The realism of the girl’s hair throughout is an interesting detail and element of contrast.

Published just in time for Valentine’s Day, Small Hours makes a cute gift for couples, comic fans, and anyone who wants or needs a dollop of honey.

This is a super cute comic that reminds me of a mix between Soppy and Sarah Scribbles collections-- it's mostly heartwarming and cute but with just a hint of sarcasm. Super fun read.

This is a collection of short comics about everyday life, most of which are quite entertaining to read but also show the troubles the main character Mrs Frollein experiences. There’s quite abit of dark humour in this, which not everyone might appreciate.

I really enjoyed this! As a nerdy introvert, a lot of these comics spoke to me! It talks about being in a long-distance relationship and dealing with grief and depression. It's organized by season and the strips relate to the season. Also, I liked how the strips were primarily black and white and switched to color when necessary!

Utterly adorable. I have never heard of Mrs. Frollien and recognised only one of the panels (of course the one about having too many unread books!!), so this was a pleasant discovery. Completely hilarious at times, I laughed out loud at almost every page and its accurate depiction of every day life. There is something wonderful about the simplistic nature of the artwork.

A collection of cute comics that depict a young couple in love.

Okay, I must be honest, I found only some of the scenes relatable. Many of the other ones seemed too cutesy. I also feel like I've seen a million versions of these scenes before, mostly on my social media feeds. I think young couples, in their early 20s (and without kids) would maybe appreciate this collection more than I did.

Small Hours is a collection of (mostly) four-panel comics featuring mundane, but relatable, moments in life. I'd seen some of Minelli's work online, but wasn't too familiar with it, so I don't know how many of the comics are repeats of ones posted online. They were basically all new to me.

I enjoyed these comics quite a bit. The characters are adorable and, though I am not a relationship person, a lot of these made me smile. Much like other books in this vein, there's not really much substance beyond the individual slice-of-life "stories", but sometimes you just need a bit of fluff, and this book provides that in spades.

I also may or may not feel personally attacked by "Beauty Blogger", "Roadtrip" and "Pragmatic". xD

Overall this is a cute little collection of comics. I have never heard of the webcomic series but since I enjoyed War and Peas: Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers thought I would check out another webcomic to book series. While I found most of the comics cute and thought the art style adorable,most of the comics were just not to my personal taste. There were a few I liked more than others . Think if you like cute little relationship comics you would probably get more out of this than I did.

It was a fun read. Collection of Mrs Frollein comics strip panels. It is about a couple and their sweet salty relationship.
Cartoons are funny and captions are the soul of work.
Each cartoons ends with a unexpected turn to either a happy or not so happy ending.
It was a quick funny read and I will like to read other works of the artist.
I read it in a single sitting and when it ended I could have read hundred more of these cartoons.

I really enjoyed this book. I think that the art style was very cute and the comics inside in general was very cute. All in all the book is just a big experience in cuteness.

This collection is amazing! The comics are great. I've seen a few before, but the book also includes a section of new comics and additional drawings that make the book a great cohesive book.

I’ve been following the Mrs. Frollein comics on and off since I started seeing them pop up on my dash on social media, so I was excited when I saw this collection. One of the fun things about these comics is that they’re short while still being relatable. I think it takes talent to draw people with something small yet relatable that also draws viewers in to see a bigger picture. Plus, the artwork is absolutely adorable!

If short comics that give a snapshot view into what is being depicted is up your alley, I highly recommend this collection. It’s cute, heartwarming, funny, and occasionally sad. I related to many while still enjoying the ones that didn’t apply. Mrs. Frollein is such a cute and fun comic to follow and I always enjoy what Valérie Minelli comes with. I look forward to continuing to follow her comics as well as keep an eye out for future collections that she puts out.

Very sweet, easy to read cartoon strips about modern relationships. I like the way the book moves through the seasons not only through weather but also stages of relationship. The artwork is simple, accessible and lovely reflecting the story well.

Funny, lovely and totally relatable. It’s great the way in which Valérie Minelli illustrates different moments in life, from the most common to the deepest. One can’t avoid being identified with several of these strips.

Highly recommend it.

So I wanted to read this book because it seemed cute and relatable, and partly it was, I guess.

Some of it truly was relatable, while at some panels I just kept thinking: "Wow, this really reminds me of something Sarah Andersen drew." While that isn't exactly a bad thing since I love Sarah's comics, it just feels like a case of been-there-done-that. That's the issue with most of these bite-sized life comics.

Still, if you are in the mood for something cute, do pick this book, I recommend it.

Small Hours collects Valérie Minneli's autobiographical webcomic Mrs Frollein. It's very #relatable, but in the way where I didn't want to retweet every comic Sarah Andersen style, I just wanted to send them to my spousal unit and go "Look! It's us!" Not all of the comics landed true for me, just because different styles of humour, but the ones that did were sweet and funny, and it's... Weirdly validating to see other people with the same style of dorky adoration that I feel for my human?

I had never heard of this comic before, but the description made me think they would be heartwarming comics often dealing with a loving relationship and I was right. The comics had a lighthearted vibe that perfectly showcased their loving subject matter. If you're looking for something that will make you smile and be totally relateable this is a great example. I thoroughly enjoyed reading through these comics and they put a smile on my face.

Very cute comics about relationships, self-acceptance, and enjoying life. Readers of Catana Chetwynd andf Philippa Rice will enjoy.
