I can't get enough of the cute webcomics books that have been published lately. This one has adorable pictures and a lot of relatable comics. This is a quick, lighthearted read.

If you’ve spent any time browsing around online, then the odds are good that you’re going to recognize the name; Mrs. Frollein. Or, at the very least, recognize the artwork found within this book. Mrs. Frollein is a charming web series written and drawn by the lovely and talented Valerie Minelli.
Minelli has such a way about making her comics connect to a wide array of readers. And it’s all because of the heart she puts within her comics. Her characters are eclectic and anxiety riddled, but they’re also heartwarming and cheerful. They’re the perfect read for a rainy or sunny day. And more often than not, you’ll find that their actions mirror things you’ve done in your own life.
That’s the main reason I love Mrs. Frollein so much. The comics themselves are fairly cute as well, which is a major bonus. So naturally, when I saw that a series of the comics were going to get bundled up into one book (Small Hours) I found that I couldn’t resist giving it a read.
And I couldn’t be happier about that decision. Small Hours was every bit the delight I was hoping it would be. It was the perfect balance of down to earth and insane humor. The characters are quirky and silly at times. And at other times tackling the harder parts of living. It was emotional and so much fun to see all these comics together.
As if that wasn’t enough, Small Hours boasts one more special feature: twenty-five of the comic strips within these pages cannot be found online. They were made specifically for this book. So die-hard fans of the characters are going to want to check this one out!

I received this book as a Read Now and it’s a cute story with cute cartoons. I would recommend this book to people who love to read graphic books and comics.

This was absolutely adorable! The illustrations were so cute and so many of the moments were relatable - especially the ones regarding the winter season were hilarious to me because I'm the same way! A quick and fun read that serves you some excellent realness and will make you smile widely.

This was super adorable! It served its purpose of being the perfect comfort read. The comics were lighthearted sometimes a little sad but were like chicken soup on a cold day! I found the short little stories relatable, I mean that shower scene for sure! I also happened to be listening to Harry Potter ambient noise when I got to page 49 and was like, “I see you.”

I liked that the author made these comics as a form of escapism from a harsh reality and it really is a little bit of sunlight. Would recommend for those who like sweet cozy comics.

I have been following this artist on social media for a couple of months, ever since I saw her in Art Block - A webcomic anthology. I just fell in love with her style of drawing, with her comics which are funny, relatable and fluffy.

This book is separated in the 4 seasons. We start with, what else, Spring. And we end with Winter. Within each season you comics that fit that season. From wearing a very interesting Christmas Tree outfit during Winter to not being able to sleep together because it is just so darn hot in the Summer. I loved that the book was separated in these seasons and I loved reading the comics she picked for them.

Then there is a treasure being opened.. yes, unlike many books with comics bundled, this one has new comics added to the collection. And I was just squeeing in delight seeing new comics, unknown to everyone who is still waiting for the book to come out. Muhahahaah. :P

I love seeing her with her boyfriend/husband and see how their relationship is. From tickle fights to buying flowers (she for him) to having arguments but still holding hands in bed to many more.

At times it was really relatable. Like how webshops throw recommendations at you while you don't want or need them, or that one comic about not blinking because the hair on your leg will come back within a second (which yes it does).

All in all, highly recommended and I had so so much fun reading this.

This was such an adorable, heartwarming slice-of life graphic novel! I had never read Valerie Minelli’s webcomic before, but I was drawn to this book for the fact that I love comics that weave together humorous, whimsical, and deeply relatable anecdotes from day-to-day life, which Minelli does superbly well in her book. From getting hyped about IKEA trips to sweet moments in bed with her boyfriend, Minelli gives us a glimpse into her own life while also getting to the heart of all the small moments there are to stop and appreciate. It’s a very quick, easy read, and I found myself flipping through, smiling and nodding along the whole way.

While I did find this to be a fun little graphic novel, I have to admit I didn’t enjoy this quite as much as I was anticipating. From the synopsis: “These perfectly poignant webcomics find inspiration in the everyday, encompassing rainy coffee mornings playful relationship adventures, and quiet introspective moments. The small, unexpected minutes that quilt life together.” So going in, I thought this would be more of a soft, cozy read, but that wasn’t exactly the case. The art and humor of this book is definitely more zany and similar to other artists like Sarah Andersen. There were even moments when reading, where I would find the humor to be more on the juvenile side and a joke here and there would fall flat for me or I just wouldn’t really get what the punch line was—bits that I probably would’ve found funny in middle school but now feel a bit stale reading in my late twenties.

Oftentimes, too, with graphic novels like these, they’re filled with funny and relatable commentary but are also punctuated by moments of getting to something deeper and having a larger message to say. I didn’t get that from this book. I don’t know if there was really much more it was trying to convey beyond just a series of quirky moments with her significant other. As much as I liked this collection of comics, I do wish it would’ve had a bit more of a tender, meaningful gravitas like the synopsis suggests.

Small Hours is a cute series of short comics about a young woman and her funny moments in life. I find some of these moments familiar, and that is why they're hilarious.

Definitely the kind of drawings you would send to a friend as most of them are very relatable.

This was a super quick read, like under an hour. The comic strips are cute and wholesome. It is over all just a nice pick me up to read this.

Prior to reading it, I did not know the author and her work.
Funny,irreverent,sarcastic and at the same time so lovely and romantic.I wanted to keep on reading the comics and ended up wanting more.Bravo!

This is a sweet little comic series based on a very likeable young woman and her sweet live-in BF. They reminded me quite often of my oldest and their fiance. The art is done mostly in black and white (there are occasionally color panels) and it's divided by season. The stories are supposed to be about the mundane and they are -- the woman trying to shave her legs and ending up just doing the bottoms and wearing capris, going to Ikea for one thing and getting $500 worth of stuff and forgetting the one thing, sharing the blankets in bed, etc. I didn't actually laugh at any of them but related to a few, and I have a feeling my oldest kids would relate to most of them. It's a sweet little collection.

Small Hours by Valerie Minelli is a collection of four panel comics that are endearing in their positivity, relatability, and simplicity.

Like all comic collections, there will be some that stand out as more impactful to one reader versus another, but as a whole, Small Hours just gives general good vibes and an appreciation of small things.

Minelli's comics show how even a moment in a day can give a more positive outlook, and the collection leaves you with that warm and fuzzy feeling and a smile.

I look forward to Minelli's future comics.

I used to follow Valerie Minelli on Instagram for her amazing illustrations. So I am glad I will find them in a book soon because most of them happen to me too. It is perfect to see them when you don't have a good mood because they make you smile. And this book makes the perfect gift.

This is the cutest series of comics. I am pretty sure that the nerdy, klutzy, adorable girl who this comic features is based loosely on my life. Relatable and adorable, I want to read Valeries comics daily because I am pretty sure it would parallel my life.
