I love a good thriller and man did I get one in this book. It started out with a bit of a shocker and ended that way to, The story starts with Colleen, naive, in love and pregnant, moving in with her boyfriend Michael at his opulent estate Ravenwood, All seems well except for the mystery of the missing wife Joanna. Then a body is discovered and the twists keep coming. Is Michael a murderer? Was Joanna the person everyone thought she was? This books reminds me of Rebecca and the gothic romances I was addicted to as a teenager, and has some good twists and turns. I have never read this author before, but highly recommend this book for people who like a good thriller, or are nostalgic for a gothic mystery.

Thank you to Random/Ballantine, Netgalley and the author, Kristin MIller for the chance to preview this book. I cannot wait for her next endeavor.

This is one of those books that just grabs you and doesn’t let you do anything else until you have finished! A must read for those who love twisty thrillers that are sure to give you chills down the spine, loss of breath, and gasps! Tense and amazing!
I’ll make sure I buzz this up on all the different platforms!

I loved the blurb of the book and when I read that it was inspired by Daphne du Maurier's 'Rebecca' I was in hook line and sinker!

This is a truly twisted story. I was hooked from the start android not put it down until I finished it.
The book does start off a little slowly but builds the tension and atmosphere with every page turned and the ending is a shocker which I wasn't expecting. I do love good twists and turns in a book .

The author does an excellent job at creating a sinister and ominous atmosphere that keeps you completely engaged and invested.

I found the characters to be fascinating and loved the whole atmospheric setting. I will definitely be recommending this book for all the readers who love a sinister thriller with a twisty ending that keeps you guessing right uptil the very end.

I haven't read anything by this author but I will definitely be checking her books out now.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Colleen is so happy. Nothing could make her happier. She's pregnant and she's with the man she loves with all her heart. The only thing is that the shadow of the former wife is all over. Joanna's house, her car, her perfume, her clothes her husband. Truth is that her boyfriend is still legally married. The other truth, his wife has been gone for several months. No one has heard from her or seen her. The only clue is the text message she left for her husband. She told him that she was going to her sister's house. The baby she carried wasn't his and she was making a new life with her lover.
Except that records indicate that she had miscarried her baby. That she had had her tubes tied. And she wasn't at her sister's.
Then, the neighbors dog, while on a walk digs up a human bone. Could this be the missing wife? Who killed her and why?
A sinister psychological thriller that keeps you guessing till the very end. Excellent!

“In Her Shadow” is described as a modern twist on the classic “Rebecca”. By Daphne du Maurice.
Colleen was a secretary for Michael, a successful, wealthy businessman whose wife Joann abruptly left him while she was 5 months pregnant with nothing but a text message left behind. Michael had begun dating Colleen a month after her disappearance and five short months later, she became pregnant and he moved her into Ravenwood, the home he had shared with Joann. Colleen is immediately uncomfortable surrounded by the furnishings of his missing wife but is determined to push aside her unease and focus on Michael and their unborn child. The housekeeper Samara and the cook Dean add to that unease by insisting on serving the meals Joann preferred and giving her Joanns” house keys.
Shortly after her arrival Joanns’ body is discovered in the grove across from Ravenwood. As is usually the case, Michael as the husband is the number one suspect but as more comes out about Joann we learn there are many people who had a reason to kill her.
This is a truly twisted story, it starts off a little slowly but builds and the ending is a shocker. The author does an excellent job at creating a sinister and foreboding atmosphere that keep you turning pages.
This is not due out until April 21, 2020 but I the publisher granted my wish and I received an advance copy in exchange for my opinion. I enjoyed this and look forward to seeing what this author comes up with next!

This book is a very slow burn. The twist at the end is shocking but it took so long to get there I had to give it 3 stars. I will say that it kept me guessing until the end and if you’re a fan of mysteries I would recommend you give this a shot.

In the spirit of a modern retelling of Rebecca, I just knew I had to have this book, and I am so glad I got it. The differing POV from all the characters are really what made this book work for me. I actually used to not like that kind of telling much, but this author hit it out the ballpark. Colleen is pregnant and moves in with her lover in his huge mansion, but where is his missing wife? Did he murder her, did she disappear, what is going on? And all the people that knew Joanna before and are loyal to her, are they against Colleen or protecting her? As we learn more and more, at the halfway point, it switches over to the Detectives and what they are researching. This leads us down more paths which cause more questions. Is Colleen safe? Will we ever find out what happened to Joanna? The ending is amazing and out of nowhere. I never would of guessed it and I bet you won't have either.

OMG! That was amazing! Special thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for “granting my wish” and allowing me to receive an advanced copy. This is exactly what I love in a thriller, fascinating characters, amazing setting, and a storyline that flowed and was well written. Every character was fleshed out and I found it was really hard to hate any of them! Was I shocked at the big reveal ending? No, I started to get a “hunch” but I wasn’t 100% sure until the last few pages. I wish there was an Epilogue though because I really want to know what Colleen is going to do with her “knowledge”. Pre-order this one ASAP you don’t want to miss this one!

With all of the modern corrupting of the classics, 'In Her Shadow' ranks as one of the most sinister best. As were canon in 'Rebecca', there was a deluge of suspects and motives to be considered when the investigators delved into the circumstances surrounding Joanna's murder. And as with all murder investigations, her husband Michael, was the main person of interest. The differing POVs of Colleen, Michael, Rachel & Detective Shaw were brilliant, strategically marginalizing the evidence and muddying the waters in the search for the prime suspect. It was a continuum of doubt, ebbing and flowing.

At the halfway point, this book ventured into the procedural side of the investigation. Normally, I am not a fan of this sub-genre but Det. Shaw was an intriguing character and his voice was very entertaining. For myself, the author cleverly—very cleverly—used canon against this reader's expectations. The ending was a great, unexpected twist on the classic. This was a fabulous story!

Thank you to Net Galley, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, and Kristin Miller for an ARC of 'In Her Shadow' in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

This one was pretty twisty- some more obvious than others but still an enjoyable ride. You really do you fall in love with the main female character. Solid four

I will be talking about In Her Shadow for a long time!! This book is without a doubt the best thriller I’ve read in 2019! The entire storyline kept me guessing and at the edge of my seat, and I was shocked until the very last page. The author did an amazing job with details, character development, and keeping the reader engaged. I could go on and on; this book is amazing! I will be telling everyone to buy it!

With more than a passing nod to Rebecca, this novel takes Colleen, now pregnant with her boss Michael's child to his grand home, Ravenswood. Once there. Colleen becomes obsessed with the disappearance of Michael's previous wife. When bones are found nearby, the story takes an ominous turn and Colleen must face the fact that she may be living with a monster

A suspense novel that grabbed me from the first page, so I did nothing all day except read because I couldn’t put this book down. Coleen becomes pregnant with her bosses child only two months after his wife has left, and is moving into his ultra luxurious house and life. She’s madly in love, and Michael says he feels the same, but all around are poignant reminders of his wife Joanna, who was loved by all who met her. But of course all is not as seems, and when a body is found on a trail, all lives change.
A good mystery, well developed characters, and although I figured out the murderer before the end of the book, there were still many other surprises.
