The cover of this book is so lovely, I had to read it. Ever since I have a baby I’m into childrens books. Especially those books about bravery and with characters who are different than others. I really enjoyed the illustration style and the fact that there is a lot to see at each page but somehow I expected a bit more from the message of the end of the story.
However, I would buy the book in hardcover.
Thank you for the copy.

I enjoyed the illustration style used in this book and I thought the inside covers being covered with different types of citrus was a cute touch. I like that sort of detail in a children's book because it's an enjoyable thing to pause and share when reading a book with students. However, there was just something not satisfying about the story to me. The end of the story was better than the beginning. I was a little put off by how part of showing Tony (the lemon child) that he's wrong is having him be teased by his brother and sister lemons. I feel a story like this, with a similar or even the same ending, would just work much better and be something I'd be excited about sharing with students if the beginning of the story were set up in a way that indicated that Tony was shy or scared or unsure about things, rather than setting Tony up as "miserable."

The main character is a misunderstood and maligned green lemon. The reader follows his emotional and physical journey as he watches the joyful yellow lemons drop from the branches. Can he do the same and experience the world outside of the tree’s shade? I read this via NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher.

I always loved the books that are written in a different way than normal ones, either way they are comics, graphic novels or just books written in a special way. This was pretty short but so good!

I was disappointed with this simple children’s book. The lemons ripened and dropped from the tree in turn. However, the drawings made the fruit look decidedly unfriendly and the text was rather small. I expected a major lesson at the end e.g. the colour of your skin is not important, but it never came. An opportunity missed, I feel.

Read using NetGalley. A lovely picture book by Nele Brönner. A story about bravery. A young lemon child never wanted to leave the tree. He was happy where he was. Never considered leaving. The other lemons fell and left to see the world. He just stayed there. The lemon child meets other animals who keep asking him why he won't leave. Eventually, the lemon child makes up his mind. One day, he twists and turns and then he falls. When the farmer boy comes around he picks up the lemon child. The lemon ends up on a windowsill looking out at the world. The Lemon Child is a book about bravery and how the world is a bigger place then you think. Smart, sweet and short.
