That was a huge and wild rollercoaster of emotions! To be honest, I dnfed this like 2 days ago because I thought this is going to be one of those generic child abducting trope. I was so wrong. The first half of this book was repetitive and tiring to me. The main character found out that her husband was cheating with a 24 year old college girl. From that, women against women trope ensues.

The other half of this book was so good! It was twisty and crazy. In the end, I love it how one of the characters said “how can love and hate exist at the same time in one person?”.

Jennifer Hillier’s suspense novel Little Secrets is headed to the small screen, as Tish Cyrus’s company is adapting the book to a miniseries for Peacock. This thriller starts with a child’s abduction and continues when, frustrated by the lack of police progress, mother Marin hires a private investigator who uncovers a few of the titular “secrets.” I almost avoided this one because…child abduction, but Hillier tells this part of the story in a tense yet nonviolent way. The perspective quickly shifts to 18 months later, and what’s happening with Marin. Learning about husband Derek’s affair snaps Marin out of her suicidal depression and into a vengeful rage. I love a woman-centered thriller, and the plot keeps the pages turning. I knocked off a star because I figured out one of the twists (I like trying to predict the ending, but I hate it when I actually do). But there are still plenty of questions whose answers eluded me: What happened to Sebastian? Does Derek’s affair hint at other, darker secrets? What did Marin know and when did she know it? I would definitely recommend this book, especially to fans of B.A. Paris or Sandie Jones.

Unfortunately I didn't download this one in time and the book was archived. My apologies. Since then, I have made a point to download the ARCs right away so I don't miss out on books.

This was such a great twisty read with such complexity.

We follow Marin and her husband Derek as they are going through the scariest thing a parent could go through: they’re child Sebastian was kidnapped. There are secrets they both have from one another and they all begin to unravel after Marin hires a PI to find their son. We just don’t know if it’s too late.

This held my attention the whole time. The twists and turns were unexpected and really jaw dropping when revealed! The chapters were short enough to be addicting and the change of POV really helped push the story along.

Would 100% recommend!

All it takes is one momentary lapse of judgment for Marin’s world to fall apart. After letting go of her son Sebastian’s hand while Christmas shopping to answer a call, in those few seconds he manages to vanish without a trace. A year later Marin is no closer to finding out what happened to Sebastian. Her marriage has gone cold and just when she’s at her lowest she discovers her husband Derek’s affair with grad student Kenzie. Not willing to lose someone else in her life, Marin will go to great lengths to keep what’s left of her family. But how far is she willing to go?

I thought this was a great read that gave us not only Marin’s point of view but Kenzie’s as well. It was interesting that the book was not focused on finding Sebastian, but instead Marin’s obsession with Kenzie. You see what a wife being cheated on does to find out what Kenzie has that has kept Derek’s attention, and what she will do to erase her from their lives. I’ve become a fan of this author’s books and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur Books for the opportunity to read this book.

I have heard of Jennifer Hillier all over bookstagam and knew I needed to give her a try. Her novel "Jar of hearts" has been on my radar for a while. So, when I received an ARC from #netgalley for Little Secrets, I jumped on it. So here is my honest and voluntary review.

I can't believe I have slept on Jennifer Hillier for as long as I have. This book was such a heart pounding thrill ride. With each turn of the page, I wanted to know more. I loved the characters, and even hated some. Having a missing child is a situation I hope to never know of but how Marion and her husband dealt with the situation couldn’t have been more opposite, but she dealt with grace and optimism even through the pain.

I loved the internal banter in Marion's head when she was confronting her husband's mistress. But since I'm on the topic of his mistress, I hate women like her, that is all I'll say about that, and you'll just have to read the book to find out why :)

Just when I had a good idea of what was happening, she hit me with another twist is didn’t see coming. I did not even see the end coming (that’s the kind of thriller I love!)

This is a heart pounding thriller with a beautiful ending. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Jennifer Hillier didn’t disappoint, and I will be picking up more of her books.

thank you to Netgalley, St. Martens Press and Jennifer Hillier for the advanced readers copy. My opinions are my own and voluntary.

I went into this one blind and I’m so glad I did. Marin and Derek live a charmed and upscale life. Both are successful in their careers and it appears they have a great marriage. Everything all comes crashing down when their young son Sebastian is kidnapped. As time passes and they don’t have a lead on who has taken Sebastian their marriage starts to have rifts. Marin hires a private detective to find Sebastian but the detective finds out that Derek is having an affair. There is no way that Marin wants to lose her son and her husband. This was a great thriller with some surprising twists and turns. I’m looking forward to what Jennifer Hillier is going to write next!!

I went into this having never read a Jennifer Hillier book and was looking forward to finding out about the hype. The initial story from pretty much 'jump' absolutely drew me in and I couldn't believe how deeply invested I felt from the very very beginning. The writing was incredibly smooth and I found Jennifer Hillier answering my questions as I had them each and every time, or gently taking us along as it made sense to reveal the story and get things done. If this book would have been over at 75% I think it would have been a 4-5 star incredible book.
However, the vibe totally changed at 75% where it became twisty in an incredibly far-reaching way. And it just kept devolving from an interesting story. I found that characters stopped being consistent with who they were. Because we went essentially the whole book without seeing the married couple together I expected some crazy twists when they actually *were together* in a scene and it was a skiing trip - like why did we wait for that.
I feel like the desire to wrap things up nicely in a bow also took away from everything for me. Every character essentially had a wonderful life once the main event was over which is absolutely unbelievable.

I'm not sure if I was expecting more or if this book was too over hyped? Either way it was a well written thriller with the twist and turns that make it a good guessing game. Overall, it was an excellent quick read, but something was off that left me wanting more.

A kidnapping, an affair - a mystery unfolds among the pages. You can't put this book down as you flip through the pages, you need to know what happened; who would dress as Santa and lure your sweet son away? As you hold your breath you find out little secrets, lead to small secrets, which turn into larger secrets, which are devastating and hard to believe, until you remember you're just reading a good story and all is well in your corner of the world. You hold your loved ones a little tighter while you wonder what mystery might lurk amongst the well behaved people we associate ourselves and our lives with. A great read for those seeking domestic suspense. Jennifer Hillier is a great writer who just draws us in with each page turner she writes.

The incredible book Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier, grabbed me by the shoulders! I couldn’t put it down and was engrossed from start to finish. This thriller was so suspenseful I was reading through it as if it was my story to tell. The backdrop is the lives of a family that experience a tragic loss along with it's lingering effects that drives the characters to extremes as coping mechanisms. The characters are vivid and eventually woven masterfully. I went through so many emotions, including the palpable panic and twisted plot the author takes us through. A 5 Star Thriller through and through you will not be dissapointed ✨️

Jennifer Hillier is making a way for herself in the thriller genre with plots like this - where you start off thinking it's about one thing.. but that's just the tip of the iceburg. I had previously read Things We Do in the Dark, which blew me away.

Little Secrets is surprising with all the twists involved. Marin looses her son one day while at the Market, and though there is an extensive search, he is never found. A year later, she's still searching. When her Investigator discovers Marin's husband is having an affair, she has a lot of rage to take out on someone.

I only gave this 4 stars because I felt like there could have been more perspective from the husband, since there were multiple POV from the other characters. But I could just be picky. Overall, I still highly enjoyed it and would recommend it to any fan of suspense or thrillers with a domestic focus. I look forward to reading more by Jennifer Hillier.

I loved this book! It was the first book I’d read by this author and as soon as I was done, I purchased almost all of her other books for my kindle. So excited that she’s got a new one out now! I loved the suspense, the interesting characters, and the fact that it was impossible to put down.
