This is a great parenting book and gives real tips and advice that really works. It has been one of the few parenting books that actually addresses the kids that constantly push the boundaries. It explains the why along with how to correct the behavior and build your relationship with your child.
This is the parenting book that has helped the parent/child relationship the most, and doesn't just focus on the birth to preschool age.

Full of practical tips and scenarios to help parents navigate parenting the challenging child. Positive parenting ideas backed by research, for troubled times, in an easy to read style. Worth dipping into after the initial read, have your post-it notes ready to mark those chapters most relevant to your needs!

This is one of the best parenting books I have ever read. The scenarios presented are very realistic, as are the tips and techniques suggested (most of which are explained in detail for those who may never have used them before). I love that natural consequences are encouraged, as I have used those with all of my children and grandchildren for over 30 years now.

Not only did I find the book useful for myself, but I also passed it onto my oldest grandson's other grandmother, and she has been using the techniques with him on a daily basis (she lives with his family).

This is a wonderful book for all parents, even those who may not be avid readers. It is a quick easy read, without much technical writing, simple to follow and understand.

*I was sent a copy of this book by the publisher prior to its release. The opinions and review are mine.*

Raising the Challenging Child: How to Minimize Meltdowns, Reduce Conflict, and Increase Cooperation by Karen Doyle Buckwalter, Debbie Reed, and Wendy Lyons Sunshine is a new book for parents and caregivers. I thought the title of this book was misleading by using the word challenging. The book applies to all children and how best to handle parenting situations. This book offered very practical parenting advice from their years of experience working at Chaddock. The chapters were short and packed with practical advice to use as a parent. This book will make a great resource to return to over the years as I continue my parenting journey.
Thanks to Revell Books for this review copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Revell publishing for the E-Arc copy of this book.
In reading this book, I have to say I was a little unsure that it had much to offer me. I did find it to be helpful with some new ideas. I have and continue to raise a child on the spectrum and a challenging child doesn't have to be special needs to need guidance.

For any parent who has a child who is difficult to raise, this book is a great resource to help, not just for your child, but for the whole family.

I received an advance e-copy from the publisher and netgalley for a review. All opinions are my own.

I was a little concerned when I read the introduction that maybe this book was more focused on children with significant ongoing issues because of the background given on the work at Chaddock. I was very pleased to discover that the book contains lots of useful, brief chapters that provide great ideas on interacting with and parenting your kids, whether you have occasional issues or ongoing problems. The book is broken into three sections, focusing on the parent (be a leader), the child (dig deeper), and steps to reduce trigger points (prepare for success). Then each chapter within those sections focuses on a single piece of advice, with real life examples, tips. The thing I liked the most is that each chapter ends with a chart of "perhaps you've done this... - instead, try this" scenarios and suggestions. Much of the advice seems relevant and applicable for kids from preschool through college.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a practical, simple, creative resource for parents. I love how straight forward the authors suggestions are and they wrote in a way that makes me feel like I can easily make changes to my own family. This is a book that I will be visiting on a regular basis. I look forward to sharing it with my mom’s book club.

A book full of tools to help guide your journey. Each child is an individual and needs to have an individualized parenting strategy. After many struggles with one of my children I feel very hopeful after reading this book. I think I will be revisiting this book a few times along the way.
This book may be lengthy but worth the read. I love the way I can go back and pinpoint a section to back when the need arises.

This book pulls great parenting strategies together. It would be greatly useful for any parent, not just a parent whose child is described as challenging (mind you, whose child isn't challenging at times)

The authors of the book have taken a very complicated parenting situation and helped to break behaviors down, their own ~ parents and their child's, into understandable and manageable processes. This book is so practical! There are ideas and viable suggestions on every page! As a child therapist I will be recommending this book to parents.

A very well put together, practical book. I particularly like how often natural consequences are used, as I’m a big proponent of those. This is a simple, straight forward toolbox for the overwhelmed parent. The scenarios and tips are helpful, as are the tried and true methods that are explained in detail. I think this is a great book for every parent, and not necessarily one with a challenging child. Thank you to the publisher for the free review copy in exchange for my honest review.

I’m an avid reader of parenting and classroom management books for 20 plus years. This resource with the examples and scripts built in is exactly what tired weary parents and teachers need. The tips. Seal the deal.

This is the parenting book for the non-reader. Achievable. Simple. Clear to understand. Takes a heart focused on serving and growing kids to achieve. And do overs galore. Grace as it’s best modeled for us.

This is the parenting book for the reader. Well formatted. Clear strategies. A book to be read over and over to remind you that you are growing and improving as a parent and that it matters.

Whether you are parenting a child from a hard place, a neurotypical child, or a special needs child, this book brings all the best practice strategies of research alive and models them well with tips, scripts, and real life examples.

I rarely give a book five stars, but this book is well deserving of this high accolade!
