Anne of Green Gables: The Original Manuscript is a must-have for an Anne fan. Readers will see the original text of this classic story written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It is amazing. I enjoy history and learning the background or anything related to the development of stories, especially my favorite stories. This book adds to that as you see her process from notes and editorial details to deleting and adding elements. This is a writer's and editor's dream come true as an Anne and Montgomery fan.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Anne of Green Gables is possibly my favorite book so this original manuscript was such nerdy fun for me! I spent an entire semester in graduate school studying Anne and L.M. Montgomery, and I wish I'd had this book then. This is treasure for Anne fans like me!

As a fan of Anne of Green Gables, this was a treat! I got to see the differences between the original and the published version of the story! I recommend this to any Anne of Green Gables fan!

I didn't love that this e-copy of this book had to be downloaded onto a PC to read it, but that didn't detract from the fact that Anne of Green Gables is a timeless favorite. Seeing the author's notes and ideas jotted down just made the story of my beloved Anne all the richer and more complex. Such a delight! I would definitely recommend that anyone who loves shows like Anne With An E or the classic Anne series with Megan Follows & Jonathan Crombie make this a must read! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to write a review.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The author presents the original manuscript alongside the published version of Anne of Green Gables. It was a lot of fun to read what added and deleted even when it was something as simple as a name. If you are a fan of the book you will love reading this version. Enjoy

A must for fans of Anne Shirley and the works of L. M. Montgomery! This never before published transcription of the original manuscript of Anne of Green Gables includes all of the author's notes, additions, subtractions, etc, showing how the text evolved into the story loved by millions around the world. Each chapter begins with a scan of a page from that chapter in Montgomery's handwriting, showing her edits, and showing the text of what was on the other side of the paper- she often wrote on the back of previous works to save paper, and the text showing through is is rather adorable. In addition to being a must have for fans of the book, it would be great for writers who'd like a glimpse into another author's creative process.

What a wonderful look into a timeless classic! I’ve always loved Anne of Green Gables as well as all of L.M. Montgomery’s works, so this was an absolute delight for me to read. It was such a beautiful little reminder of what it was that made me love the novel in the first place while also showing the thought, love, care, and work that went into creating it. A must read for all Anne fans!

This is such a delight and so we'll done. I'm glad to report that it's perfectly readable in digital form as well--I was afraid that all the notes/footnotes/revisions would make for confusing or overly scholarly reading, but Carolyn Strom-Collins laid it out so sensibly. It's fun to see that some of the notes Maud added later are the best, wittiest lines in the book--and it's almost beyond belief, but Diana was almost named Gertrude! Any kindred spirit would thoroughly enjoy this.

Fans of Anne of Green Gables will rejoice when they see this title.  As described, it is a transcription of the novel with its amendments, corrections and more.  There are facsimile pages of the manuscript in Montgomery's handwriting at the beginning of the chapters.  I loved seeing these because they make the writing feel so very real.

The beginning of this book is packed with interesting things to read.  There is biographical information about Lucy Maud (who wanted to be called Maud), whose mother died when she was a toddler, leaving her to be raised by her maternal grandparents.  Her later reunion with her father and his new family is described as was Maud's wish to make him proud of her.  Readers learn about Maud's efforts to get her education, her work as a teacher and also as a reporter which culminated in her becoming a novelist.

There is material from Maud herself included; for example, her efforts in sending out her manuscript and the rejections it received.  Learn why one publisher finally took a chance on her.  Readers share the author's evident delight when her manuscript is accepted. There is also information on how the characters in her stories are or are not based on real people and how the geography of her community found its place in the book.  Readers will learn why Montgomery made Matthew quiet and SPOILER why he died. One anecdote that I found especially touching had to do with the author being asked if Anne was a real person; she was fictional but so very real to the author.

I highly recommend this book for those who are fond of Green Gables and also for those who may be coming to Anne for the first time.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

As a child, Anne of Green Gables was one of my favorite books. I even went as far as getting a larger book that had 3 books in it and I read the entire 900+ pages in 2 days. My daughter was never into Anne of Green Gables and I was sad about it. But reading the Original Manuscript has made me love the book even more. If you have always loved Anne of Green Gables, then this is the book for you!

This is a great book for anyone who is interested in seeing how L. M. Montgomery developed her most famous novel, ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, from a rough draft to a final draft. The historical information in the book's foreword is also very enlightening.

The Anne series is one of the most beloved stories in all of children's literature. The books remain popular with readers of all ages, and it's easy to see why. The characters in this book are three-dimensional and universal in their appeal.

If you are new to this story, I recommend reading the classic version of the book rather than this one. This is an original manuscript with lots of notes and amendments that will make it hard to read for enjoyment. But for anyone interested in the historical reference material, this makes for a very interesting read.

I would have downloaded this even if I knew beforehand I had to read it on my computer. I enjoyed it even more at 54 than I did at 8! Seeing LMM's notes on the sides of the script thrilled me to no end and made me feel like I was there with her when she wrote it. Bravo!

It is a testament to how much I love LMM and Anne that I actually read this book on my computer as it only comes in PDF form.

PLEASE, publishers and NetGalley, indicate on the listing when the book only comes in PDF as reading on my computer is not something I want to do and I won't buy a tablet.

As for the book, I love, love Anne and it was so interesting to see LMM original manuscript.

You could still feel the Anne whimsy, despite the fact that LMM was a demanding author of both herself and her character.

There has been some mention that LMM went back and "adjusted" her journals and manuscript because she knew that people would have access to these at some point, so reading this manuscript, I wonder how much of this thought process affected the story and the revisions.

I absolutely loved this series as a young child and to be honest, it was so exciting to me to see L.M. Montgomery’s notes in the margin as with this book. It’s like looking into the mind of the author and to me, it was an opportunity we readers don’t often get. I found it so interesting and it increased my love for this series and author.
