Kennan and Divana's story in The Highland Rogue isn't like anything I've read despite the well-known storyline. Both hero and heroine are fierce and lovable and the dialogue is on point! I highly recommend this romance novel to all who enjoys this genre. |
I LOVE Amy Jarecki! I enjoyed this story a lot. I particularly liked the time the main characters spent together while on the island. They have the time to truly get to know each other. What happened to Divana was truly heartbreaking and what a strong woman she was to have continued to survive there on her own. The continued struggles they have together brought them closer and I was so happy with the outcome. |
A courageous Highlander falls for a strong-willed lass on the treacherous high seas in this action-packed Scottish romance. Keenan and Divana make up a good tale of romance and intriguing characters. It is an interesting story of love on the high seas. |
This was a fast-paced, swoon-worthy read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story was original and exciting with characters that were realistic and likable. It is everything you could want in a delightful stroll through the pages of a historical romance and more! |
Highlander books are one genre of romance I really haven't tried before, this was my first and I'm not sure it worked for me? I loved the idea of the plot but something about this fell flat for me. I think I would have liked it more if I started at the beginning of the series rather than read this as a standalone. I've heard great things about Jarecki's books and I own another from this series, hoping I have better luck with that one! DNF at 22% |
The Highland Rogue is another delightful entry in the Lords of the Highland series and I loved it! A woman stranded on an island alone for years finds a man washed ashore. His ship was taken by pirates and he had to walk the plank. Kennan is a 'royal' of sorts since his father is the leader of the clan. Divana was abandoned by her clan and left to die. They really are from two different worlds. Divana's clan was cruel but Kennan's is warm and welcoming, even to Divana! I like the slow build of feelings between Kennan and Divana. It takes our Highland Rogue a bit to get with the program! Divana will steal your heart for sure! She watched her family die before her eyes and the managed to survive for years on this tiny island with nearly nothing. She is so thrilled to have even a lowly job for Sir Kennan that she can't believe her luck. Her world view is so different and its both sad and refreshing. Her life is such a contrast from the Highland Rogue's that it leads him (and others) to begin to evaluate their views. Gotta love a book that pushes social change! While Divana's devotion to Kennan is obvious from the start (okay, well not those first few weeks on the island), Kennan's devotion takes time to build as he has to reevaluate his thoughts on what his life would be like. He would be breaking many rules marrying someone from another clan (an enemy clan at that) and someone well below his social standing. While the story is set in the past, many of the social issues are still prevalent today: Diviana is, for many reasons, a social pariah. She survived small pox and people treat her as if she could still be contagious. She was abandoned by her own clan (led by her uncle!). The Highland Rogue stole my heart just like the previous books in the series! |
The heroine grew up on a Scottish farm, in a large close knit community, but doesn’t know what sex is. Right, okay. That’s believable. The story is fast-paced and action oriented, but with inconsistent characterization. The heroine is a servant with intense internalized classism, and her belief in the hero’s innate superiority was painful to read, and unchallenged by the hero. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
Great story. I enjoyed this book from start to finish! It was great to see them get their HEA and loved how the world came to life before my eyes. |

Divana Campbell finds Sir Kennan Cameron washed up where she has been abandoned from her family. Get ready for an excellent read from a time long ago as this author does not disappoint with this offering. Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own. |
I really like this series and thought Kennen was a really hot hero. I wasn't as sold on the heroine, Divinia. Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own. |
Amy Jarecki has written a wonderful Highland series and I have been here for each and every installment. This was not one of my favorites, but was an enjoyable read nonetheless. Sir Kennan Cameron was seriously injured after his ship was attacked. He was found when he washed ashore by Divana Campbell. This was a godsend to Divana as her family abandoned her and she was surviving alone on a Scottish Island. She had faith that they would come back for her, but that simply had not happened. Divana truly hopes that her fortune has changed when she meets Kennan. She is shocked to discover that he has a remarkable castle, and that he would do just about anything to keep her safe. It should come to no surprise that Divana easily fell for Kennan. However, as he is heir to a chieftain, Kennan must marry equally, and therefore, Divana would not suit. Nonetheless, the two share powerful chemistry and cannot resist the temptation that comes with that. Meanwhile, Kennan must avenge those who pirated his ship, so his attention to Divana is divided. At some point, however, the futures must be decided upon, even if it ends in heartbreak. This was a busy, fast-moving story, even though it felt a bit unreal at times. On the one hand, Divana proved to be strong enough to survive on an island, to me she proved to be rather vapid and dense. The next book in the Lords of the Highland series is The Highland Laird, which is set for release this fall. Many thanks to Forever and to NetGalley for this ARC to review. This is my honest opinion. |

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Omar liked the start of the story, the idea of the main character washing up on a deserted island and meeting the other protagonist was a very unique plot. It is not always that we read about castaways or stranded characters in romance stories, and the first meeting of Kennan and Divana created an interesting story to get the readers’ attention. I liked the story about pirates and sea travels and most of all trying to get out of the island, but I felt the story became somewhat slow during the time they were at the Cameron Keep. I liked the Cameron family and the people that worked at the keep. Another part of the story that I liked was reading Kennan and Divana during their time at sea looking for the Highland Reel, Kennan’s ship, which was stolen at the beginning of the book. Having Divana hide her gender from the crew members was fun. I liked Kennan’s character, he had principles, he followed his own ideas and was courageous, and loyal to his crew. It was fun seeing him try to get out of the island and not fall in love with Divana because he felt he needed to protect her. In the case of Divana, I liked some aspects of her, but I also felt she was a little clingy. I liked that she was a hard worker and saw the blessing in things, that she saw the beauty in new things and loved to learn. While I know the clinginess was meant to be somewhat romantic, it felt more like a Stockholm Syndrome because she was scared just imagining not seeing Kennan and being near him. She was still a good character, but I think the narrative got a little bit lost. If you are a fan of the Lords of the Highlands or other works of Amy Jarecki, then I invite you to read Highland Rouge. In this new story, surviving on a deserted island is just the beginning of a couple’s next grand adventure. *OBS would like to thank the publisher for supplying a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review* |
The Highland Rogue by Amy Jarecki is book seven in her Lords of the Highlands series. Though part of a series, this novel reads as a standalone. Sir Kennan Cameron, captain of an eighteen-gun ship, the Highland Reel, is attacked by pirates and washes ashore on the island where Divana Campbell has lived alone after being abandoned. Kennan is gravely wounded and Divana nurses him back to health. Divana loves Kennan but knows he is above her station and they can never be together as she wishes. Kennan thinks Divana is lovely and wants to protect her but knows that’s all they can ever have. Kennan and Divana face adversity in many forms on their way to Kennan’s home and even after they arrive. Will they overcome the obstacles in the way of a possible happily ever after? The Highland Rogue is a quick, entertaining read with an interesting plot. The characters are vibrant. The romance is captivating. I throughly enjoyed this story and rate it 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to readers of historical romance, especially Highland romance. My thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone. |
After his ship was attacked by pirates and he goes overboard, Kennan is lucky to find himself alive when he washes ashore upon an almost deserted island. Lucky for him, Divana is there and is able to nurse him back to health. They are finally rescued and he takes Divana with him when he goes home. But Kennan is determined to seek revenge on the man that attacked his ship. Divana and her family to taken to the island when they contracted small pox. She was the only one to survive. She welcomes the company of Kennan when he arrives. They become close on the island, but that all changes when she is taken to Kennan's home. He is the son of the laird and she is now one of the many that work at the castle. When Kennan goes to hunt down that man that attacked his ship, Divana stows aboard. What will happen when she finds her aboard his ship? I really enjoyed Kennan and Divana's story. While they were of different classes, Jarecki made it work for this story. I really enjoyed watching these two when they were on the island and seeing their friendship blossoming. They didn't have all the restrictions that would have come had they met elsewhere. This is a great addition to the Lords of the Highlands series! |
If you are not familiar with this author, this is a perfect way to do it! Highland romance at its best! The romance does not disappoint! The story has twist in it! The writing is great! The author has a flare for writing and that reflects on the reader. I am one of them. I love her books a lot!!! |
The Highland Rogue (Lords of the Highlands #7). By Amy Jareki. 2020. Forever (ARC eBook). Left by her clan on the desolate Scottish isle of Hyskier, Divana Campbell has survived the last two years on her own by digging up clams and pelting birds with rocks. Now there is an injured man on her beach and she has seen too much of death to not help him. Sir Kennan Cameron’s ship and crew were set upon by the notorious pirate Jackson Vane and Kennan would not have survived the aftermath if not for the fiery and compassionate Divana. Kennan knows they must leave the isle. Divana deserves a real home within the safety of his clan, and he has every notion to set sail after Vane to get his revenge. As the heir to a powerful chieftan, Divana knows Sir Kennan can not marry someone of her lower station. But she can’t stand to part from him, so she find herself taking to the high seas with Kennan on an adventure full of dangerous pirates and powerful desire. Looking for a well-crafted Scottish historical romance with a capable and endearingly flirtatious heroine and a rugged Highlander, then look no more. An entertaining read and another great installment in the Lords of the Highlands world! |
Love on the high seas…. I love this series! It is a mix of sweet, heated romance, swashbuckling adventure and Scottish … Campbell met Cameron in a plotline that was as unique as the characters that lived it. Divana had no family and no hope when Kennan washed ashore. As she nursed him back to health he became more than a rescuer. He was what her heart wanted and needed – even with the many strikes against them… Divana was no wilting flower, far from it! She had survived a lot and had been living by her wits and her refusal to give up so little wonder Kennan was intrigued from the start. Her devotion, and his, soon upended any obstacle in front of them. Honor, family were important but love would trounce them every time… A rollicking adventure with love at the core, each moment a test of their devotion… And they passed with flying colors! Outstanding historical romance! |
I have always enjoyed a story by this author and this is another wonderfully written adventure that I couldn't put down. |
I have mixed feelings about Divana’s character. At times she annoyed me with how clingy she was with Kennan and how immature she seemed at times, but at other times I liked how she went after what she wanted and was willing to do almost anything. I really liked Kennan’s character and he was enough to keep me reading even when I got annoyed at Divana. He was sensual, masculine, and protective. I would have liked more interactions with his family but the scenes on his ship were entertaining. |

Kennan Cameron, captain of the Highland Reel, sees a ship owned by Jackson Vane, a pirate and his enemy. Kennan must stop Jackson and will fight him. When Kennan gets on the boat though everything goes wrong and Jackson takes over Kennan’s ship instead making Kennan jump overboard. As Kennan battles the ocean he manages to get to the Hyskeir Island half dead meeting Divana Campbell. As Kennan recovers slowly with Divana’s help he can’t help the strong attraction to her but knows he can never have her. Kennan thinks of helping Divana by someday bringing her back to his home and clan. Unfortunately, Divana is a Campbell and an enemy but still he will do what he can for her. When Kennan gets saved he brings Divana with him but will everyone be accepting of her? Will Kennan be able to show her how much she is needed in his life without falling in love especially since he must get his revenge on Jackson Vane? This was definitely a fast paced adventurous novel that was not only nail bitingly good but it was so hard to put down! The book moves fluidly with much heart stopping action from ship to the ocean battling sea creatures land and lastly the high seas and that it was hard to not get caught up in too. The places whether they are on a ship or within the clan are vividly described and portrayed that it was easy to imagine them. Kennan the gorgeous sea captain hero was not only loyal but incredibly swoon-worthy that of course makes the perfect book boyfriend. Divana the brace courageous heroine was a little difficult to see as a scarred woman still she was everything you wanted in a heroine feisty independent and strong-minded that you couldn’t help but love her. This book brought Scotland and the high seas jammed pack with a romance that is one that stays with you and is a keeper! |
