I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am surprised but I ended up liking this book.
Ginny has been on her own for years and mow is working as a maid until she catches the eye of a lord.
Gabe has to manage his mother, his wasteful brother, and comatose father. He also has to live up to his lordly reputation.
There was insta-lust which became insta-love because Gabe and Ginny didn't really know each other until the end of the book. I also hated Gabe for most of the book. He was honestly an ass and I dont think I fully forgive him still for the way he treated ginny from the start.
This is my first book by Olson but I would definitely check out another book by the author.

I loved this story and Ginny’s character. The story was great and kept me engaged throughout. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Many thanks to LR Olson and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this book & the main heroine Ginny. She’s strong and knows what she wants. Ginny has a big heart and likes helping others. She doesn’t have a lot of money and goes to work for Gabe as his maid. They have a lot of chemistry. Gabe wants Ginny as his mistress but she won’t do that even thhough she is attracted to him. These two have secrets of course. But they deserved their HEA! It was a good & steamy historical romance! I def recommend giving this book a try!

Yes, this is a nice romance with just enough steamy to make is a fun read.. The story was well told. I liked the book.

I received an ARC of " A Dangerous Liaison" by L.R. Olson from Netgalley. L.R. Olson is a new author to me and I am very impressed. This is Gabriel and Ginny's story told from the first person's point of view...a very intriguing different way of writing. Gabriel is heir to an Earldom while Ginny is a maid in his friend's home. One after another, problems seem to follow Ginny and nothing seems to be working in her favor. Yet, this connection, an invisible pull, she has with Gabe is undeniable. This is a beautiful love story of the inevitability of a resolution deserved.

I do not usually read "romance" novels but something about the description led me to request this title. Reading this took me back to high school when my friends and I would spend the summer reading Harlequin Romance paperbacks. We passed them around until they were all destroyed - and never acknowledged that each one was basically the same book with different names and places. But this book was really a lot of fun to read. It had a great pace with interesting characters and of course, steamy sex. You have to love a strong woman like Ginny who has absolutely nothing, and lives in abject poverty, but isn't willing to give in to Gabe because she wants to protect her reputation. While not something I would usually read, I did enjoy this and might look into the books that preceded this one, since some of the characters cross over.

I had a really hard time with this book and had to force myself to finish it. Gabe was selfish, controlling and cold. Ginny was very indecisive and naive. I was uncomfortable with the way their relationship started, Gabe pushed and pushed even after she had said no. He then had her in his home and wouldn’t allow her any clothing until she agreed to be his mistress, if that isn’t being emotionally abusive, I’m not sure what is. Then when he gets his way he changes his mind and decides to humiliate her in front of a ton of people to get her to leave and get back at his parents and is surprised that she actually left. Then when he finds her again he’s mad at her for having left, all the while he’s going along with his mother announcing his engagement to another woman. I had a really hard time connecting with the characters. Ginny just kept falling for it over and over again and never really fought back, she just took his anger like she deserves it then decided it would be a good idea to sleep with him again. I don’t see how Gabe ever really redeemed himself because the majority of the book he was an ass and I was honestly wishing he wasn’t the hero. I’m not sure if I’d try another book by this author if the hero had this type of behavior and it was never really addressed as bad, there was always an excuse either by Gabe or Ginny for why he acted the way he did.

Ginny is a fabulous character with a lot of wit about her. She is intelligent and can deal with her life on her own and in her own terms. She doesn't want to give into anyone, much less the two men that are fawning over her and promising her that she can be their mistress. I do have some questions, but they're below in the spoilery section due to those questions giving away a bit of the story.

Knowing only the tragedy of poverty and how much trouble you can get into, she keeps her head down and stays way away from gentlemen (?!!!) that try to press their luck with her. The men in this did have me at the edge of my seat. Man, haven't they heard no means no?

Gabriel is a bit of a spoiled brat, although he has his own issues with his parentage that comes out later in the story. He certainly doesn't get along with his parents, so it seems that he is just trying to bed Ginny to go against his parents.

Actually, the entire story had me on the edge of my seat. It does take place over years, which in some places are skipped, so it sprawls in places. You can see this in both character's growth and maturity but that never slows the story down. The time just adds a bit of meat for Gabriel to chew on.

Unfortunately, prior to that maturity both characters are put into circumstances that test their mettle. Some situations are better than others, but Ginny knows situations can seem and BE too good to be true.

The characters are good, but I kept asking why? These questions didn't really let me go, even now. I liked the writing, and I liked the way the plot played out, but I would have liked it a bit more had I felt like the characters wanted to be together.

It's interesting that there are so many characters in this, and yet I didn't feel bogged down. Since this is a third in the series, the characters may have come from the first two. I do love that I was able to read this without knowing anything about them or how they fit with the series and without feeling like I was missing out on anything.

Ginny Smith is orphaned, poor and always looking for food and watching out for her friend. Now given a job as a maid with Lord Gabriel Thornton. He is one that does not like titles nor does he want to follow what his parents especially his mother is ordering him to do. Finding himself attracted to Ginny he is surprised to find that she speaks German and French. She also reads, he wonders what poor person out on the streets has that type of knowledge. Wanting to find out more about her he takes her away and then brings her to a ball. The problem with this is that he leaves her alone and the women know she is not from there class or the society. Now pissed she leaves; it is much later when he finds her sick back out on the streets. Brings her back in and helps her regain her health.
Once healthy she wants to leave but he wants her to stay, not wanting to give herself to this man she knows the longer she stays the more difficult it will be. After giving into him the story continues to go in a new direction and you find out more about Ginny. Without giving away too much the last part of the book answers a lot of the questions you the reader have at the beginning.
First time I read this author and I was not disappointed. Also, I don’t normally read these types of books but I found this to be very entertaining.

I really enjoyed this romantic story from L.R. Olson. A Dangerous Liaison centers on Ginny and Lord Chambers and the journey to love. I found the writing to be interesting and the romance to be lovely.

There are undoubtedly obstacles that the couple must overcome including familial ties, differences in class, and the fact that Ginny is an extremely headstrong woman. I loved how she never settled for anything less that she deserved.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book had all the right elements for a book you just can't put down. There was so much drama that I couldn't wait to turn the page. The main characters had so much chemistry. I need to read the first books in this series.
I was provided by a free ARC for my honest review.

A slow starter - I found myself skipping pages as I became bored at certain points of the book. It felt a little like Jane Eyre with the several changes of circumstances and perhaps too many characters to keep track of. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't pick it up to read again.

DNF. I can’t say much about A Dangerous Liaison because I stopped reading about 1/3 of the way in. It’s a historical romance, and the MCs are Ginny, a factory girl turned servant, and Gabriel, a young lord waiting for his cruel father to die off and leave him the title.

I have no idea what happens to them because I despised Gabriel so much that I just couldn’t stand to read any more of the book.

Absolutely love this story. It has so many twists and turns. The characters are so well developed I feel like they are ftiends...or enemies. Hoping Ms Olson has more stories coming about this big, extended family. So glad Ginny and Gabe are so in love.

A very in depth and detailed historical romance. Every time you think it’s coming to an end a twist happens and the story continues.
My first time reading a book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Definitely a Five Star read!!

This book felt more like the story of a young woman's experiences than the story of a romance. Ginny is a factory worker turned maid with only vague memories of her childhood. When a lord tries to lure her into becoming his mistress, she determines to escape with her independence. The story line was unique, but the way that it was put together didn't work for me. The three parts to the story felt disjointed, and the introduction of new characters at the end was jarring.

If your up for a regency romance- I would put this on your list! This was the perfect amount of romance crossed with soap opera drama! This storyline was original and by the end I was in love with all the characters. I’m planning on putting this author on my watch list. I was impressed and it reminiscently made me think of Julia Quinn’s Bridgestone series but just a tad darker and realistic. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. #NetGalley

So, this borders on being melodramatic and over the top. If I listed all the things that happened and the drama that went down, you'd think there's no way it would work. But I enjoyed it!

✓: The structure totally threw me at first; it's very different from the typical adult historical romance. When I first realized it was alternating first point of view, I almost Fred Savage'd it right there, because it seemed almost jarring when I'm not used to that writing style for this genre. But I actually enjoyed the first person POV after I adjusted a few chapters into the story. Sometimes, with third person alternating POVs, it can be hard to tell when the narrator switches or the narrator changes can be abrupt. I don't think I'd want to have all my books this way, but I liked it. (It's almost a more New Adult genre style take on a historical romance?)

✓: The timeline also unfolded atypically. I don't want to get into detail, because spoilers, but the story stretches over a much time period than the typical book. I don't think it worked as well The Enlightenment series, but it did lend the book and romance a saga-like atmosphere and helped with character development.

✓: Speaking of sagas, this book is like soap opera-level of drama and plot devices. As someone who grew up with a steady diet of The Young and the Restless and As The World Turns and Guiding Light, I appreciated it once I leaned into it.

±: That being said, there's a plot involving secondary characters from other books in the series. I felt like I missed out not reading the other books. This might just be me? (I would like to read a book with [Spoiler on Goodreads], however.)

✘: Nothing major! Sometimes, the character arcs felt off, my feelings about one character personally wavered, and there were some grammar and factual errors I'm hoping get picked up in editing. Also, sometimes the historical element lacked its flavor (but it held up in others).

tl;dr: Dramatic, angst-ridden, soap opera-y fun.

I was generously provided with a copy of this book to provide a review of it.

I haven’t previously read anything by L.R. Olson and I do not normally read romance novels.
While this book is predominantly historical fiction it does have a lot of romance elements to it as well.

The book is about a young lady who has been abandoned and left to poverty since childhood. Ginny Smith has learnt the hard way to provide for herself and to survive.

Suddenly, she is presented with an opportunity that almost seems to good to be true. So, Ginny begins her position has a maid in a privileged household. It is hard work with long hours, but she has a roof over her head and does not have to worry about her next meal. The only rule is to get tempted by the lords and wealthy young men that come and go through the household.

Then enters Lord Chambers. A mysterious and charming young lord, who has much family drama of his own. Nevertheless, Ginny finds herself pulled into temptation by this sensual young lord.

With their pasts catching up to them and colliding with their love, only time will tell if they will survive. Will they irrevocably hurt each other and not be able to find their way back before it is too late? What is a young lord willing to sacrifice and do for true love? Will he be able to put his pride aside and admit it to the world? – only time will tell.

An enjoyable and entertaining story about love and all the challenges it can face, especially with two people from different worlds.

Though it did take me a couple of chapters to really get into the flow of the book, once I did I found it was a nice read.
