What an enjoyable read! I have really been entertained by all of Natalie Walter's books in this series, but in my opinion, Silent Shadows is the best so far! I love romantic suspense, and this had a lot of both! I love it when I can't predict the twists and turns that a story takes. I did not see them coming in this story. The major and minor characters are well developed and loveable (except for the bad guy of course). The journey and depth of experience that Pecca and Colton brought to their relationship made for a delightful and thoughtful tale. Highly recommend!

While I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher, all opinions are my own.

While this author got of to a bit of a rocky start for me, I believe she is coming into her own and each book has been better than the last, with this one being my favorite for sure!
Pecca was a kind, and sometimes feisty character and the way she cared for others was beautiful to watch. I also really liked her son, Maceo. Often kids can be hard to get write in books but Walters did it exceptionally and I admired how he fought to overcome his handicap.
Colton was such a wonderfully broken hero and I loved watching him discover his new purpose after being sidelined by his movement disorder. The protective care he had over Pecca and the way he championed Maceo endeared him to me even more!
The romance was sweet and I loved watching as it slowly built into a beautiful relationship!
It was fun seeing how Charlie and Lane (from book one) had fared since their story and the guys from D-wing were a hoot for sure!
The mystery angle was very expertly woven into the story and while I did guess some of the ending there were still twists that surprised me!
All in all this was a wonderful book and a great way to end the series! I’m looking forward to what this author has in store for us next!

"Silent Shadow"
By
Natalie Walters

Synopsis - Nurse Mecca Gallego moved to a small town called Walton in Georgia to protect her son from her dangerous past. It's was a past that once defined her. When a series of strange circumstances changed into threats from her past, she turns to one of her patients Colton Crawford. Colton has enough problems of his own.

My Thoughts - "Silent Shadow" written by Natalie Walters is a Christian suspense novel. It is the first I've read from this author and know I would love to read more. This is the third book in a series called "Harbor Secret", but can be read as a stand alone. "Silent Shadow is a book that pulled me in from the very first page. This book will not let you down if you like suspense, romance and adventure. The character's are very likable. I really loved the relationship between the two main characters, Pecca and Colton. Even though Dalton was a very silent person he soon came out of his shell.

Rating - 5 out of 5

I would love to recommend this book to friends and family through Facebook, Goodreads and on Amazon.

I received this complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to write a review.

Title: Silent Shadows

Author: Natalie Walters

Series: Harbored Secrets book 3

Chapters: 34 Plus epilogue

Pages:320

Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Rating: 4.5 Stars

Publisher: Revell

Silent Shadows the third book in the Harbored Secrets series by Natalie Walters has three things that I love in books, small-towns, small-town life, and military heroes and loveable kids just not always in the same book. But with Silent Shadows the combination worked. Not to mention my favorite meet cute that I’ve ever read and most unique one to date.

In Silent Shadows you have a heroine Pecca Gallegos who's basically running from her past in order to protect her son. Colton Crawford hero who's undiagnosed disorder has derailed his plans for long term career in the military. Neither was looking for romance or a relationship, but when the past catches up with the heroine the hero is determined to protect her and her son.

While I didn't love Silent Shadows as much at the first one in the series Living Lies but I did enjoy reading this one. I loved being back in Walton Georgia and I didn't want it to end. It was nice to revisit some of the characters from previous books and see what they are doing now. My favorite character from this book was Maceo a seven-year boy who in many ways is wiser than most adults and in other ways just wants to be a normal kid. I didn't think that any character could be more over the top than Ms. Byrdie until I met Shirley in this one.

I loved the Veterans D-Wing because I loved their banter and teasing each other about their different branches of the military. They reminded me of the veterans that were residents of the nursing home that I used to work at. Even though they teased and bickered about which branch was better they still supported each other and no one else was allowed to do it.

One last thing that stuck with me with Silent Shadows that while it was a suspense novel it was also a book about people and how special small-towns are and that everyone knows everyone and they watch out for each other.

Silent Shadows was a great wrap up to the Harbor Secrets series, and even though each book is a stand-alone I do recommend reading the books in order, otherwise, you may spoil yourself for the other books.

A single mother hiding from a gang. Her young son. And a military intelligence officer discharged with an unexplained movement disorder that causes seizure-like muscle contractions.

Pecca Gallegos loves her job as a nurse at the Home for Heroes. Her son, Maceo, is unhappy at school. And Captain Colton Crawford, her newest patient, may be what they both need—if he can see beyond his limitations.

Maceo has a prosthetic leg and what seems like an impossible dream to play football. Helping him may be what Colten needs to help himself.

My personal preference is for an understated romantic thread, so I found Pecca and Colton’s swoony thoughts about one another a little much in the first half. That said, their first true date was definitely an “aww” moment.

And there’s a lot to like in this story. I appreciated the clean suspense and the frank wrestling with the tension between faith and painful circumstances. I also enjoyed the camaraderie among the “D-Wing” patients. Team dynamics, belonging, and purpose play an important part in the book, along with faith and second chances.

Favourite lines:

"You look at yourself as less than. Is that the message you want your life to reflect?" [Kindle location 3755]

“…Allow yourself to believe that even though this isn’t how you planned your life, it doesn’t mean it’s not exactly where you need to be.” [Kindle location 3761]

Silent Shadows is book 3 in the Harbored Secrets romantic suspense series. I haven’t read the previous books, but had no trouble settling into this one. Books 1 and 2 are set in the same town of Walton, Georgia, but feature different characters.

Natalie Walters’s author bio says that she “comes from a long line of military and law enforcement veterans and is passionate about supporting them through volunteer work, races, and writing stories that affirm no one is defined by their past.” For more about the author and her books, visit nataliewalterswriter.com.

Silent Shadows gives readers a swoon-worthy romance mixed with some run-for-your life suspense. Pecca Gallegos has moved to Walton to escape her past and literally runs right into Colton Crawford, the ex-Army captain that is also her patient. But after several attempts are made on Pecca’s life, she realizes that gang members have tracked her to Walton and want her dead. Colton steps in to protect her but has his own physical and spiritual battles going on.

I loved the characters in this story. Pecca is strong and sassy. But Colton Crawford faces his struggles head-on throughout the novel and I enjoyed watching his transformation from his “victim mentality” to hero. Pecca works at the Home for Heroes where Colton is staying while in rehab. But the other men who live at Home for Heroes are a riot. Sticks, Gunny and Sarge spend their days bickering about which branch of the military is best, and they become witty sidekicks for Colton throughout the story. I also loved to see Lane and Charlie from Living Lies adding to the mix of characters.

This novel is more romance than suspense (as compared to the other novels in the series), but the chemistry between Pecca and Colton gives readers a great storyline. There is plenty of action, it’s just towards the end of the novel.

Silent Shadows is the third novel in the Harbored Secrets series. You could probably read this as a stand-alone, but I suggest reading these novels in order (Living Lies is first).

Overall: 5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense: 4 stars (lots of action and suspense to keep me intrigued)

This is the third book in this series, and they can each be read alone, but are each equally good.
I loved the compassion shown here to our fellow man, and the theme continues right to the end.
There were a lot of surprises that unfold with this story, and most I never saw coming, the story kept my attention all the way through. There is even a bit of sweet romance, and we meet some awesome veterans here, and enjoyed the competition between the different branches of the service.
With darling children, football and birthday parties, we are quickly drawn into the everyday life of the folks in Walton Georgia, but don't get too comfortable, you will soon be ducking bullets, and will be absorbed in this story and not see the ending!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

“Pecca Gallegos never thought she’d be turning down a marriage proposal—much less four of them.” - Opening lines of Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters

Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters is the end of the Harbored Secrets series and it’s a fabulous conclusion to an awesome romantic suspense series. Pecca is a character I have enjoyed from the start and it was lovely to spend time understanding her better. Terrified of her past, when it comes to haunt her, the small town of Walton rises up to protect her.

Colton has just arrived in town and finds himself in the midst of Pecca’s trouble and drawing on his training as an intelligence agent to find out who is behind it and protect her and her son.

The mystery is compelling and the story moves along swiftly as Colton and Pecca defend themselves against multiple attacks from their unknown assailant. In the midst of the suspense is wonderful humour, light moments as these great characters connect. Natalie knows how to write people you wish you could be friends with in real life.

I related to Colton’s journey with his painful physical disability and Natalie does a phenomenal job of walking in his shoes, capturing the emotions one feels perfectly. I love how she works each difficulty encountered by her characters through the lens of faith sharing encouragement and hope.

Pecca’s siblings weave into the story and a great edition! I would thoroughly enjoy more time with this family! Whilst this series has drawn to a close, I look forward to reading more from Natalie Walters in the future! This one is highly recommended and a five out of five on the enJOYment scale.

I hadn’t read the previous books in this series but it didn’t stop me from enjoying this story. In parts I found the story a little slow but then it gripped me again.

I found the main characters likeable but the romance between them was a little too predictable and started a bit too early on for it to be entirely believable. In terms of the main plot line, I struggled to understand some of the conclusions the so-called intelligence experts were coming to with regard to Pecca’s link to the gang. If I couldn’t see a motive, I failed to see how they could. The plot made sense at the end when all was revealed but not the journey to get there. If I hadn’t liked the characters so much I may have given up.

This conclusion to the Harbored Secrets series was my least favorite. The suspense in the first two books ratched from beginning to end. This book did not really get into any suspense until almost two-thirds through the book. The first two-thirds seemed to focus predominantly on the romance between Pecca Gallegos, a physical therapy nurse, and her client, Captain Colton Crawford, who suffers from tremors in his body especially his right arm.

I did love the military guys on D-Wing where Crawford was assigned. Their feistiness, humor, care and support for one another was heatrwarming. I also enjoyed their teasing of everyone but especially both Pecca and Cap. Maceo, Pecca's son, who had a prosthetic because of a leg amputation as a baby was a pure delight. Overall, the characters made the book. I do have to say I was totally shocked at the identity of the villain.

Overall, a good read just not the high drama suspense I usually expect from Walters.

"Silent Shadows" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. This is the third book in a series. You don't need to read the previous book to understand this one, and this book didn't spoil the previous book.

Colton felt useless due to his movement disorder, so he struggled to accept that God cared about him or that he brought anything worthwhile to a relationship. Pecca didn't trust her judgment about picking good men, and she couldn't date a patient, could she? Colton reached out to her disable son to help him to see himself as more than a missing leg, and he's determined to feel useful by helping to protect her when someone starts shooting at her. Their relationship grew as they spent time together.

The characters acted realistically to events and came across as real people with genuine struggles. The suspense came from someone threatening Pecca and even trying to kill her, but they're not certain why. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable suspense novel.

Such a compassionate book that encouraged me from the beginning. Seeing how other people overcome life's challenges was so helpful in my personal walk. Knowing again God cares for me was something I was encouraged by thru this book

“Head out of the gutter, Pecca.”

This sounded like it would be an intriguing Christian Fiction book filled with suspense and an added element of romance. At the 60% mark on my kindle I had to ask myself, “Did I really care for any of these characters? Were they people who relied on God—at least sometimes? Was there an element of edge-of-your-seat excitement?” The answers to all those questions was NO. Most of the book to this point consisted of the female lead, Pecca drooling and mooning over the main character, Colton and his body.

Perhaps the book gets better. There are very few books that I would quit reading at this point, and I usually find any book Revel publishes to be around 5 stars, but I feel that I’ve spent enough time on this one, and I’m moving on to something less boring.

First of all, I want to thank all Veterans for their service no matter what branch they may be in. God Bless ya'll! Another wonderful read by Natalie Walters and such a gorgeous cover too! I could easily get lost into the cover.
I finished this book in a single evening because it was so good that I couldn't put it down.
I really liked visiting the little town of Walton, Georgia. ( We passed by there on our way to Florida last year).
The residents there are friendly and in my opinion easy to make friends with. I like that about a small town. The only thing I don't like is that everyone knows everyone's business before you do. ( That happened to my husband once lol which is what happens when you're related to half of the community ).
Walters writes in such a way that makes these characters real and believable. So many twists and turns that will make your head spin until you figure out what's really going on! It's not who you think it is.
I stayed up until 3 am to finish this novel. I really wanted to see what happened to the characters in the story and I was cheering them on the whole time.
I think what I especially liked was the faith filled theme that Walters has sporadically thrown in. She reminds us that We can do all things through Christ and that we are never alone. He is always with us no matter the circumstances we're in at the time. There are times when our plans never work out. Maybe it's because God has a bigger, better plan for us. We just aren't able to see it at this time. Maybe there's something out there that is meant for us instead of what we want to do.
Pecca and Colton are great characters.
Pecca is a cheerful soul and I like that about her. No matter what like throws at her she still always looking on the positive side. I think I need some lessons from her.
Colton is a little more on the reserved side. I think he's a little more like me in that way. I'm always cautious until I see how you're going to react toward me or not. I loved in getting to know him. He was a delight and swoonworthy handsome! I like men without beards don't you?
Maceo man! I wished I had his energy! I could feel it coming through the pages of the book if that's possible. I liked him from the start and it's possible because I have a teen at home now through this Coronavirus.
He doesn't let his disability stop him from doing what he loves and it takes a special person to show him that.
Now we get to the guy in D wing. I really love those guys. They made me laugh out loud and from then on they were my friends too. I think each guy is really special in his own way and I really enjoyed their personalities. I"m glad to see that they haven't lost their joy for life as they are at the mansion for healing.
I like that Walters has some Military in her family. It shows coming through the pages in this book.
I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this book. So much so that I hated to say goodbye to them.
I think this is the best book in this series but I did love Deadly Deceit.
My thanks to Netgalley for a complimentary copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive. review. All opinions are my own

This is the third book in this series. I have really enjoyed the books in this series. The characters are very realistic and very likable. There is suspense in the story line but mostly it is just a good clean romance which I recommend to my customers

This is the third book in a series by author Natalie Walters. In this book, Pecca and her young son live in Walton, GA where she moved in order to escape bad influences from her past. She is a nurse at Home for Heroes working with veterans. She meets Captain Colton Crawford, who has a movement disorder and has come to Home for Heroes to rehab. Colton befriends her young son and Pecca and Colton are attracted to one another. One evening after going out for dinner, Pecca’s car window are shot out and what ensues are multiple threats against her life.

For me, the story was a little slow in the beginning, but once the story developed it was very good and I couldn’t put it down. The characters are likable and warm and you really get the sense of a kind and caring community among the people in this small town. I enjoyed this book and recommend this book.

'Even Lazarus had to die before the Lord could do his work.'

Natalie Walters' debut novel, the first in her Harbored Secrets series was wonderful and I was happy to have found a new author to read. Book two was good and further cemented my decision to follow Walters. With the finale to the series, she has done her best work ever! This was the perfect ending! She has crafted wonderful characters, a great plot and the best cast of secondary characters a reader could want. Highly recommended.

Silent SHadows by Natalie Walters is the final installment of this series. it was just okay. I guess I just expected more. The characters were a bit bland and behaved as expected. No real intrigue or suspense here.

Pecca works with wounded vets to help them recover and deal with whatever they are struggling with. She came to Walton to protect her son from her past, and found friends there. When a new patient comes, she finds herself falling for him. However, her past is coming for her and she is facing something she never imagined.

Natalie Walters’ books spread across several genres and hold appeal to a wide audience. Though romance is prevalent, it comes with action and suspense. Pecca must face her feelings for Colton while dealiing with the danger that threatens her and her son. Though the plot starts out seeming straightforward, there are several twists that keep you turning the page to find out what happens next.

Beyond those, there are a couple of themes that resonated with me. The first, faith and trusting God to guide your steps, is evident in the lives of the main characters. They acknowledge that our plans may fail, but God’s will not. The second is how small towns often turn friends into family. People in Walton care about and look after each other.
