The story seemed cheesy and fun.
But the characters sadly did not have any chemistry.
The characters were okay, but affected the story.

I hate to DNF a book I'm supposed to be reviewing, but after two years, I just have too many other books on my TBR pile to come back to this one.

Maura Richards’ doesnt have any plans for her life, she just exists. And where relationships are concerned she ends them before they get serious. Then she meets Jet Knox, the starting quarterback of her hometown pro football team. He’s set his eyes on Maura. Wooing Maura is his objective.

This was a simple story, likeable characters, interesting storyline, romantic and funny in parts. The problem was the pacing. It was a slow read and I found my mind wandering quite often. Overall, I give it 3.5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book.

I love a good sports romance and this fits the bill. A cute story that took place in my hometown, so it was fun to recognize all the places they were talking about.

I enjoyed the role reversal in this. It was refreshing seeing the heroine goal driven and the male lead finding his way.

I enjoyed the unique perspective in this book of a woman who is directionless and somewhat content to be that way, and a man who is very goal-driven. It was a nice shake-up from the stereotypes. This story portrays an honest and real relationship, which is what made it enjoyable. Although this book could definitely use some intense copyediting, the story overall was an enjoyable read.

This was a cute read, great characters and nice writing! This novel follows Maura as she interacts with her family, friends, and love interest. It was fast paced but at some point felt flat for me.I just needed something more.Nothing was actually happening to the story.

It was okay read. It is to slow at the start so it takes time to get into the plot.

I thought it was cute but a little flat and we don’t get a lot of detail on certain situations so that made it hard to connect to the characters at times. It did make me laugh and smile and I didn’t have a problem finishing it, i just didn’t really connect to it.

I wasn't sure whether to give this book three or four stars but in the end went for four. The beginning really grabbed me, the author's a great writer, but for me the story dragged a little in the second half. But I kept reading to find out what would happen, so four stars.

Loved Maura - she might not have a plan, but when you're introduced to her brother and his fiancee you begin to understand why! To me, she came across as more put together than she gave herself credit for. Liked Jet too, that despite all his good qualities he wasn't perfect. Rae was a trickier one - I see why Maura had chosen her over her other high school friends but goodness, she's a prickly one.

Nice story, nice characters. Pleased to see there are more in the series about Maura and Jet.

Brown’s new novel deals in the world of football and although this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but do not let this detain you from giving this a try because this novel offers so much more than the sport.

The characters are likeable though there are some character flaws that never really move to sorting out nor do the characters personalities change for better or worse. Jet and Maura are extremely likable and they do keep you invested in their romance. The stronger characters such as Maura’s brother and sister-in-law and Colin are well received and Colin himself could spin off his own series. Rae is hostile throughout and never really softens. The novel does suffer from character growth in neither one direction nor another.

The plot is very interesting and kept me involved though. The romance between Jet and Maura are very well handled and Brown expertly able to weave football into this without becoming boring with statistics or bogged down by information. Brown really knows what she is talking about and makes these passages very interesting. The romance has some story archs that dip and curve but never anything really too dramatic or tragic happens between the two. It is like reading a novelisation of a Hallmark romantic film which is not a bad thing.

Personally, I would have loved to see all these excellent characters have an emotional arc that helps each of their personalities grow. We don’t quite get this but it would have made the novel a bit more rewarding.

Overall, the novel is very enjoyable and the characters are so very likable and kept me invested. I do like the author’s writing style and think that the talent is there to hit all the marks in forthcoming novels. I did like this book a lot and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the novel. I loved the characters just think we need more ebbs and flows to have a rewarding book but really did enjoy it. I do give it 3.5 stars.

Thanks Net Galley for the preview!

Maura was a complex and interesting character-sure she had her flaws and attitude but overall I felt like she was a little under developed. I wasn't always sure what she was going to do and felt like her confidence was lacking. I liked Jet at times but also felt like he had a hold over Maura. She didn't have the autonomy to make decisions for herself. I liked that they had an unconventional and slow romance that was built more on spending time together. In the end I felt that they grew both individually and together. The idea that his dog was named after his football number was a clever, subtle detail I very much appreciated!

This was a nice surprise actually. I will say that it does start slow so if want something that is easy to get into this is not it. I did enjoy the writing style it was funny and made the characters relatable. I didn’t think that I enjoyed sports as much until I was reading this book!

I also did like that the fact that the couple stayed. Together the whole novel! I found that refreshing as usually there is a major conflict at about 80% through the novel. There were issues but they were handled within a week of them happening!

I couldn't get into this one. I wasn't feeling the romance in this romance, and I wasn't feeling the main characters. I think that so much more was spent on the surrounding world, the football, the friends, that the central story—the romance– and main characters were diluted, stretched thinned, hard to feel or connect with. The slow burn is too slow and Maura seems so focused on superficial stuff: she seems to be attracted to Jet Knox (first and last name, for the first eight chapters), football player, sports star, but not to a real person with real chemistry. And that, in turn, makes me wonder how Jett could possibly be interested in her.

Very slow moving with little reward. The main character, Maura, is slightly frustrating and hard to read. I don't feel any chemistry between the love interest and it feels as though there is nothing to root for because of it. Her friend Rae is always angry and the best character in all of it is Colin. I did not finish this because I could not. The writing isn't terrible but I feel like, as far as romance goes, this is not one I'll drop everything for.

I really enjoyed this book. The main female character felt like it could be me in this scenario. Super funny girl who catches the eye of a hottie with a heart of gold that has awkward moments all along the way. Loved the relationship development.!

This book was an up and down romance. It was cute and an easy read. At times it did seem there wasn't much going on but it didn't take anything away from the book.
