Beautiful art work in this book. I enjoyed looking at the pictures on each page. Simple text. Easy to follow.

Brian Wildsmith was a British painter and children's book illustrator, and this book offers a collection of his animal illustrations along with the collective nouns for the animals pictured. The artwork is lush and beautiful, and this book will be just as welcome in the library of an art aficionado as it will be in the hands of a child. A gorgeous book!

Such simple text but absolutely amazing art! The variety of animals presented and the expressions matched perfectly., especially the skulking fox! I cannot wait to get a copy for our library and share with my art teacher. Thank you for letting me read an ARC.

I received an arc of this title from Netgalley for an honest review. This really beautifully illustrated book is about what different groups of animals is called.

I love this book! I had never heard of Brian Wildsmith before requesting an advance copy of this book, and I'm happy now to be aquainted with his work. Animal Gallery and its gorgeous pictures is lovely for children and adults.

This picture book includes illustrations of different species of animals from all over the world, and a note giving the name of the animal and the noun used to describe a group of them. A sloth of bear made me laugh.
Some of these sounded so ridiculous I was wondering if he made them up, but that's language for you, I guess.

Let me be honest, I didn't quiete enjoy the pictures. They just don't appeal from me - there is nothing bad about them. They are colourful and non-repetitive. They just don't vibe with me, and since the main part of this book is made of the pictures, I can't give a higher rating.
There is nothing wrong with this book and I'm sure other people will enjoy it.

A well-illustrated picture book for very early readers. Animal Gallery succeeds in its gorgeous pictures, though the limited text makes it appeal to only younger children. Ages 6 months to four.

Upon looking at just the cover of the book and not reading the back will most definitely leave many readers with no ideas what this book covers. True it is about artwork and animals, which are the two most defining clues you can get as well as the author is also the one whose name is put before the actual title. All in all it doesn't impress me since with the exception of reading this book I have had no introduction to Brian Wildsmith so no idea why he would distinguish himself as much.

As for the book itself it gives the reader a nice handful of collective nouns that they may or may not know while posting them against an artsy background. For very young readers this will most definitely be an introductory book and a stepping stone to much better books if they actually do enjoy learning more about collective nouns after getting a taste of this. As a result of the presentation I gave it an additional star to bump it up to four although 3.5 maybe the actual star rating for me.

The book gives no introduction as to what these words are or their place in our language but just throws the reader into the material. This simple writing format is repeated throughout the book and there is no separate ending either to actually close the book on but just another collective noun. For a minute I had to stop and really confirm I had reached the end of the book to know that we were done.

Another aspect of the abovementioned paragraph is the fact that the collective nouns were presented weirdly and not in any concrete form. Some animals received a two-page spread, which is hard to see when the digital format only allows you to see one page at a time instead of side-by-side. And then others only had one page but were matched with a completely different group of animals such as tigers facing flying fish....

Then finally there is the artwork. Brightly colored and detailed it will most definitely catch the eye, especially with some of the backgrounds such as the snowy whiteness for the penguins. These were the true winners while the animals not so much. The animal components for the illustrations were hit or miss as some were done pretty well and a bit more realistic while others had components such as eyes, muzzles or other body parts that were abnormal in comparison thus making for some strange mutant animals such as sulky looking foxes or spotted lions (were these latter suppose to perhaps be cubs?).

All in all it was a strange combination of a book and one that for very young readers may be a nice addition to the library since of some of the abnormal details. Being a stepping stone book, though, I probably would also have on hand some of the other better done books on collective nouns just in case you have readers who are interested in wanting to learn more about these fun nouns.

The illustrations are outstanding, bright and worth spending some time with. Words are minimal, good for a new reader to learn quickly. This is one to get for the images which can also be used to reflect on the colors because of their bold and rich hues.

This is a beautiful collection of artwork put together to form a beautiful book of animals in their natural habitats with a sentence about what the group of animals is called.

Love love this book! I absolutely love it! I shared it with my first grader and kindergartner and they both could read it. The pictures are vivid and bright they absolutely adored it! Definitely recommend for parents especially during this time right now when kids are home! We've read this one about six times and will probably read it some more! Love this book and the illustrations!

Colorful, engaging illustrations of animals in their natural environments are combined with a phrase using a collective noun to describe a group of each animal. Some phrases are what we might expect (“a pandemonium of parrots,” or “a tower of giraffes”), while other phrases are not (“a shoal of seahorse” or “a crash of rhinoceroses”). This is a book to return to to look at the illustrations and learn the vocabulary. I would have liked to see some back matter about the process of creating the illustrations and the phrases.

Colorful and beautifully illustrated book to introduce young readers to a wide variety of animals. A myriad of collective nouns is used to describe the groups of animals, which made reading it more entertaining.

Thank you NetGalley and Candlewick Press for providing this ARC.
