Ollie and Augustus is an adorable story about a little boy who is worried that his dog will be lonely once he starts school. Ollie, the little boy, and Augustus, the large dog, have been inseparable ever since they were born. In order to make sure Augustus doesn't get lonely, Ollie writes an ad for a dog friend. However, after many tries, no dog seems to be exactly the right match for Augustus. Instead, Ollie's best friend would rather wait for his buddy to come home from school.

I loved the illustrations in this story. The sketch-like pictures were minimalistic and attention-grabbing. I feel the offered great insight into the gentle love between Ollie and his dog, Augustus.

Ollie and Augustus is a cute friendship story and a story about starting school. My favorite part of this book is how not worried Augustus is! So funny. Hand to kids who like school, pet, and friendship stories.

Sweet story of a boy, his dog, and the fun things they do together everyday. Ollie has to leave Augustus at home and is worried that he will be lonely, but that is not the case. This may be a good book for children who have anxiety over being separated short time from pets. The illustrations are gorgeous.
Thank you to NetGalley and Candlewick Press for the Review copy.

Cute story about the love we have for our pets. Ollie and Augustus are the best of friends who do everything together, but Ollie has to go to school. He worries for Augustus and tries to find him a friend to keep him company. The way the story wraps up is very sweet, and as a dog person, very relatable. It’s a great read for any kiddo who is going back to school and is concerned about leaving their furry friend behind.

A very sweet story about friendship. Augustus is a big dog and Ollie must go to school. He doesn’t want to leave him alone, so he try’s to find him another friend. But Ollie is the best friend Augustus needs. We enjoyed this story and found Augustus adorable. The friendship between Ollie and Augustus was so sweet. I recommend reading to your own little, esp. if they are going to school soon like mine.

This book has super cute illustrations. And it's a cute idea, but I wish there had been some kind of tie in between Augustus being fine and Ollie also being fine at school. Because it said he was worried and then never resolved his worry. Cute book, but lacking in the end.

Super cute picture book about a boy and his fat dog! Was cute to go through the different emotions of the boy towards his dog. As dog owners with kids, super relatable!

Did not read very well on kindle app through... separated the pics so had to piece together in your mind. Hopefully, they correct before pub date. Thanks NetGalley for allowing me to review!

A sweet boy is concerned about what his dog will do when he goes to school; a nice testament to life remaining the same even when faced with new challenges (like school!)

I received an electronic ARC from Candlewick Press through NetGalley.
Evans has created a fun book about connections between pets and owners.
Ollie and Augustus do everything together until Ollie has to go to school. Ollie worries that his friend will be lonely without him so he advertises for a friend to spend they days with Augustus. Plenty of dogs apply but nothing works out. Readers may figure out that while Ollie worries at school, Augustus has a wonderful day full of adventures.
Moments of fun and humor throughout. Young readers will relate to the concerns about leaving pets behind when they head for school. Springboard to their own creativity as they imagine what their pets - real or imaginary - are doing while they're gone.

This was such a wonderful read and the perfect for the final book of the evening, as Ada went to bed. It tells the story of a boy and his best friend, his dog. As the boy goes to school he is so worried his dog will be lonely that he set him up on play dates and it doesn’t go to plan, but the dog has something better in mind. It ends with a sweet moment. The illustrations are soft and lovely, to match the sweet story. We really loved it!

What a darling children's book! The combination of adorable art and a fun story make this one that kids and their grown-ups will enjoy. A very little boy and his very big dog are great buddies but the boy is worried about his dog being lonely when he goes off to school. He puts out an ad for a dog friend for his dog, but none of them are good matches. Of course it all works out in the end. The fun art adds to the appeal. Families with dogs will be likely to smile extra at the illustrations. I can see this one becoming a fun new series. We really enjoyed it.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
