I have never listened to the authors' podcast, but I have always heard good buzz about the show. This book is an anthology, of sorts, that covers a different serial killer in each chapter. Very interesting and in an engaging format, true crime trivia, with a dark sense of humor and snark thrown in, this is my kind of entertainment. True Crime and Humor can be a tough combination to pull off, but this group does a great job. Not for the easily offended. I really enjoyed this book as an introduction to the podcasters and I hope there is another book soon!

Just as good as the podcast! So glad they published this to give us more of their awesomeness. Hopefully they'll publish more in the future.

I wanted to like this. I like the podcast, but the book just fell very flat for me. The illustrations were very funny and I liked those, but overall this was very meh.

I like the podcast, although I stopped listening when they moved to Spotify), so I thought I would enjoy this book more. It is still good, but felt a bit more disjointed. And I would much rather listen to them then try to read in their voices.

I really tried to get through this book, but as a book, in book format, it just doesn't work. I think it would do better as an audio book or (surprise surprise!) a podcast.

But as a book, in book format, that people have to read...it just doesn't work.

I also found the excessive hand-drawn looking pictures of the authors that were on pretty much every page of the book to be irritating after the first few pages. Like..why are there so many of them? It's just too much and screams "Look at how awesome I am that I have my stupid face on damn near every page of the book I wrote!". Ugh.

I wanted to like this book...I really did. I've listened to the podcast and found it entertaining, but this book just DOES NOT WORK as a book. I mean, yes, you can read it. But it'd be better if you just listened to the audiobook instead. Seriously.

For fans of the podcast, THE LAST BOOK ON THE LEFT, delves into ten gruesome,s serial killers while injecting a bit of levity into heavy source material. Sharing pieces of information I hadn’t read before, the authors have worked hard to make this title both humorous and interesting. Gruesome at times, fans of true crime will enjoy the factual parts while humor fans will enjoy the snippets included to by the authors with their trademark wit.

Thanks to NetGalley for sending me an eARC of this book!

HUGE fan of the podcast!! Really enjoyed this as a fan! Marcus Parks does amazing research on cases and provides entertaining, precise information.

If you haven't listened to the podcast, you may not grasp their humor and take on some of the cases. I did love the fact that although these cases were covered in their podcast Marcus found new information to present.

Even if you're not a listener, but enjoy true crime I think you'll love this!!

I read an eARC of this, so I feel like I didn't get the full experience of a hardcover book. Additionally, I think some things were lost in translation. For instance, there a cartoon drawings of Ben, Henry, and Marcus throughout the book. But they're just kind of randomly there. Sometimes there's one, sometimes nine in three rows of three, all right in a row. I'm not sure if they're supposed to break up different sections of text or what, but I think it would be more evident in the physical book when compared to an ebook. The same is true of Ben and Henry's jokes throughout the main text. They're offset by being in a different shade than the main black text, but they were such light gray that it was difficult to read.

That said, Marcus Parks obviously did a ton of research for this. I shouldn't be surprised because he's the researcher for "The Last Podcast on the Left" too, but I think each section about a different serial killer featured info that I didn't already know (and I'm sort of obsessed with true crime and listen to dozens of different podcasts and read books on the topic). Ben and Henry just contribute jokes throughout the chapters, but it works better in an audio format like a podcast. The content of the chapters worked much better than the jokes interspersed throughout.

3.5 stars

This was an interesting take on the true crime novel. They used the combination of facts and dark humor to present the stories of 9 differnt serial killers . Unfortunately some of the humor fell a little bit flat ( would work better in its usual podcast setting). I really enjoyed the little comic strips throughout the book as well.

Overall this was well written and as far as the facts go it was on point so I really have no complaints.

LBOTL is a great extension of the podcast Last Podcast on the Left. I think those who are in to other true crime podcasts like My Favorite Murder and True Crime Obsessed will enjoy this. Marcus Parks does a great job telling a story with lots of research and detail. This book covers probably the most infamous serial killers so if you are a true crime buff or a frequent listener to their podcast you will have heard these all before. Though with the fresh jokes, it still will entertain the advanced true crime follower. The only thing I didn't care for were the comedic endings with fictional documents that coincide with the serial killer's story. I just didn't find them all that funny. I would still recommend for a true crime fan who is not squeamish and likes their true crime with a side of comedy.

Absolutely love this !I This has added another layer to the True Crime genres and I can't wait for book 2. I will say something in my put some people off is the commentary like in the podcast in between in the chapters but if you're a fan of True Crime shows, its similar to comments in oxygen or ID shows.

Obviously I'm biased as this comes from the guys behind my favorite podcast, but I tried to be objective, and I think it's a great book. It's a guide to some of serial killing's "heavy hitters," as the LPotL guys call them. Even if you've listened to the episodes about these particular killers, there's still some new info in the book. If you're not familiar with the podcast, then it might not be for you. However, if you like a dose of levity with your true crime, then you might want to check it out. Hail yourselves.

As you would expect from the wonderful team behind the Last Podcast on the Left, this book is a deep dive into nine of the most famous serial killers of all time, including Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein and others.

The Positives: I thought the humour so important to the podcast translated well into the book format and that as always, the research done was thorough and clear to see. I think that the killers chosen definitely fall into the 'heavy-hitter' category and were all fascinating to read about. The book is fabulously illustrated throughout, which was a great addition.

The Negatives: I'm not sure how accessible this would be for someone who didn't listen to the podcast, in terms of the humour. Some of the jokes definitely fall into the 'inside joke' category.

Overall this was a very entertaining true crime book.

I've listed to their podcast, Last Podcast on the Left before so figured I would give their book a read. I will say the information is very good and detailed. There's no debating they did their research on the crimes they describe in this book. I'm not sure if others had this problem, but a lot of the images on my download were blank. Some of them did appear, and those drawings I saw were funny. But since a lot of them were blank, I was unsure if they were intentional or drawings that didn't load properly.

The book however has a similar issue I had with their podcast. Since it's a group that talks all at once, it's hard to know who is who, but you would definitely need to know to read this book since they do commentary in between the crime descriptions. Some of the comedy is really funny, and others at times is funny "only if you know them" kind of thing. If you know the podcast, this is for you. If you are a true crime fan, I would also recommend it because their detail of the crimes are really good and knowledgeable. The comedy for me is so-so, but I would still say it was a worth reading. 3 stars.

The hilarious and morbid LPOTL is one of my favorite podcasts. After reading Stay Sexy & Don't Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide (from another of my favorite podcasts) I was eager to read this offering from the guys. Long time listeners and hardcore true crime fans aren't going to learn anything new here. However, the humor and tone of the show are spot on which makes it very easy to "hear" Ben, Marcus & Henry's voices as you read. That, combined with the new and hilarious illustrations, will make this a perfect keepsake for fans of the show!

Interesting, informative and concise whilst still giving all the pertinent details I found "The Last Book On The Left" to be a relatively quick read. I haven't listened to the podcast, and I'm not American, so some of the references went over my head but I did find some parts witty and enjoyed the sections at the end of each chapter. Augusta and Harvey the dog were personal highlights. I will give the podcast a go after this.

I received this book in exchange for a honest review from NetGalley.

I have been listening to "The Last Podcast on the Left" for many year now and I have been anticipating this book for a while so when it popped up on my netgalley recommendations I requested it immediately. I have loved this book, it is full of all of the respectful but irreverent humor that I have come to expect from Marcus, Henry and Ben. They do a great job of laying out all of the fact, incorporating some humor while still standing by Marcus's main tenant that "Your mental illness is not your fault but it is your responsibility". Overall I loved every minute of it and an happily awaiting its release in April when I can see them live and get my signed copy!

I'm incredibly biased, so I, of course, really loved THE LAST BOOK ON THE LEFT. Marcus Parks has once again brought his impeccable research skills to the table and crafted interesting and intricate narratives that map out the histories of people like Ted Bundy, Ed Gein, Richard Ramirez, and more. While I know a lot about almost all of the people covered in this book, Parks always manages to bring new information forward that teaches me something new. I especially loved that even though all of these topics have been covered on the podcast, Parks made sure to make it fresh, new, and unique with new material and content to share. But the other thing that really worked for me with this book was that, thanks to Ben Kissel, Henry Zebrowski, and some well designed graphics, we still get the Kissel and Zebrowski commentary on the stories that we get on the podcast. It truly felt like I was reading a podcast episode, and I was laughing just as hard as I do while listening to their show. The fact that they were able to capture the essence of their show and what makes it unique and put it successfully to the page says so much about the talents of all three men.

THE LAST BOOK ON THE LEFT was everything I wanted it to be. I think that people who are unfamiliar with the podcast (who are open to the idea of gallows humor) who are interested in true crime will find a very informative spread within its pages. Hail Yourselves, guys!! This was great!

Honestly? I was really disappointed by this book. I've listened to LPoTL for 3 or 4 years now, and I was SO EXCITED to read this. But it's just...boring. Listen to the podcast instead (unless you also disagree with the podcast moving to Spotify exclusively, which screws over listeners in countries that can't get Spotify; a fact the guys have never addressed to my knowledge). I certainly acknowledge the hard work Marcus Parks put into writing and researching while also working on the podcast, but really y'all, it's just a recap of some serial killers. If that's all you're looking for, you'll love it. If you're looking for new information or something as entertaining as the podcast, you won't find it here.

I love the "Last Podcast on the Left"! These guys and their hilarious podcast have often kept me company on my long commute. Now they have written a book which focuses on serial killers. It reads like you are listening to a conversation among good friends, who are just slightly insane. You can tell they have done their homework about serial killers and maybe enjoyed it just a little too much. Read the book, listen to the podcast- enjoy the creepiness!
