I started this book with optimism and I usually love everything by Wanda, but this was very heavy. I sometimes like books that make me cry but I usually use books as a form of therapy and escape from life’s tragedies and realities. Wanda is an amazing storyteller and you feel deeply with the characters.
This book held too much grief for me. It was hard to read. I will say that the characters in the story were resilient and their faith in God helped them overcome the sorrow and hardships that came their way. But it was really hard to read through. Also I was disappointed by the lack of romance. It was practically nonexistent and the last chapter seemed a hurried attempt to throw it in but it felt almost like an afterthought, not the ending the character deserved.

This Amish novel centers around the deaths of several family members—a tough topic and one that provides plenty of tension. The King family must not only deal with their loss but also struggle to run their greenhouse business. Will Amy have to give up her courtship since she has no time for outside activities? Will her younger brother, Henry, continue to act out? The various relationships and conflicts show authentic situations and seem realistic, even if some of their conversations don’t. The title refers to the birds Amy dislikes but Henry tries to tame. Reading about all their problems will take your mind off your own. And this first of a new series doesn’t solve the mystery about who is trying to harm their business so I look forward to the next one to learn more. I received a copy from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

THE CROW'S CALL by Wanda E. Brunstetter is the first in Amish Greenhouse Mystery series.
This intriguing novel set in a small community in Pennsylvania will tug at your heartstrings. A terrible accident leaves three grieving women struggling to keep the family greenhouse business.
Amy thinks that when the crow caws something bad will happen. Her brother Henry likes the crow and hopes to train it to be his pet.
I enjoyed learning about the Amish way of life. It was a special treat to find some of the characters from The Prayer Jar series in this book.
This is a book of love, grief, anger, faith, forgiveness and unanswered questions.
I am looking forward to finding answers in the next book in the series, The Mockingbird's Song.
The Crow's Call should appeal to those who enjoy reading Amish fiction, Christian fiction, sweet romance novels and a little mystery.

My thanks to Barbour Publishing, Inc., Shiloh Run Press, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book, which enables me to write my unbiased thoughts and opinions in this review.

The Crow's Call was a wonderful Christian Fiction Mystery style book. When I began reading it, I hadn't realized that it was the first book of a new series. I didn't honestly realize this until I finished the book, and a major mystery was left up in the air.
I'll admit that Ms. Brunstetter did a wonderful job fulfilling all of the elements that truly draw me into a story. I love when there is just enough twists to keep me guessing as I'm reading a book. I don't find so much enjoyment when an author is too predictable, and all of their books follow a specific outline where you know almost exactly what will happen next (kind of like a typical Hallmark movie). I do love a good Hallmark movie on occasion, However, I expect most every outcome from the beginning to end. Some authors become very predictable for me, and then it doesn't take long for me to lose interest in future books (or I just only read them on occasion). Ms. Brunstetter has written many books over the years that have focused on Lancaster county Amish, and I have greatly enjoyed every one I have read! She has done an excellent job of creativity in making each one so individual.
In this book in particular, the beginning kicked off much more sad than any of her books I have read before, There was a deeply sad element throughout this book, and at times did not feel like they were moving out of it. Again, this was before I realized that this was the first book of a series. Now I realize that this book was necessary to set up a backdrop for the future books as the deeper mystery unfolds. There were much more lengthy details than I usually enjoy, almost felt like parts of the book just dragged on more than I like. This was the reason I gave just 4 stars vs. 5. The book felt like it could have achieved the same well planned beginning without quite as drawn-out of a process. I believe the entire book only covered a month or two in time.
Overall, I did love this book, and will absolutely be watching for future books in the series. I will likely read them all! Thank you, Ms. Brunstetter, for your wonderful writing!

As the story opens Vernon King and his son. and son in law die in a terrible accident.Any his daughter is helping her mother in the family's greenhouse their only source of income. Amy believes she has to give up her beau Jared as she has no time to court. Her sister Silvia has three children and has lost her husband is unable to cooe. Her brother Henry is just a boy who is angry about everything and missing his family that were killed. Belinda the Mom is trying to do everything his as he believes her husband would.
Wanda brings you through many trials and tribulations for the family. You don't get all your answers to your questions which leads me to believe there will be a sequel or a series to this book . Great book as always

In The Crow’s Call by Wanda E Brunstetter we see a story unfold of pain from the loss of a dad and his son in a buggy accident. The ongoing life without them in the picture made decisions quite hard at times. Along with all the decisions there comes some problems that they must figure out how they are going to face. If you enjoy Amish stories that are clean and enjoyable, you’ll like this one.

'The Crow's Call' begins with a tragedy for the King family and ends with several questions for the reader. I have read and truly enjoyed many books by Wanda Brunstetter over the years. The writing style in 'The Crow's Call' is not that of the author I am familiar with. It has an abundance of head talk, too much describing physical actions that are assumed, and a lot of repitition. I appreciate the different perspectives shown for each character as they react to the tragedy. A!though there are some characters that I don't understand their part in the story. 'The Crow's Call' is the first title in a trilogy so I expect there to be a few loose ends. But I read only a start to one of the many needed resolutions as the book came to a close. I am hoping to "crow" fonder of this series with the next book "be-caws" Wanda Brunstetter is a favorite author of mine. I received a copy of 'The Crow's Call' from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I am a HUGE fan of Wanda’s work but this one was a bit disappointing. I felt like it was super depressing for the first 3/4 off the book and I had to flip past a lot of it to get through it. It seemed dark and not very uplifting like most of her novels. I hesitated putting this review out there but it’s my take on it.

The Crow's Call is the first book in the Amish Greenhouse Mystery series.
In it we find some of the characters from The Prayer Jar series.
Wanda Brunstetter has been a favorite author of mine since she has begun writing.
Her books are so charming and authentically Amish with such an important scripture message in all but it's not to much that you feel overwhelmed by it either.
I always feel so inspired and full of life and ready to help others when I am done reading a book of hers.
This book is different than her others books as it involves a bit of a mystery.
Life changing events happen in this book and while we can see only what's right in front of our face at the time God sees the whole picture start to finish right from the start.
Our life plan is in his hands and he will take care of us as long as we have not forsaken him.
The book is filled with love, loss, forgiveness and unanswered questions.
Yes while there were questions I had answered I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series to answer the rest of my questions.

This is book one in a brand new series. In this book three men end up losing their lives in a buggy accident. Since the accident happened things may never be the same as they were before. I enjoyed reading this book. I was hooked from the first sentence. This book will draw you in and you won't want to put it down.

The Crow's Call: An Amish Greenhouse Mystery by Wanda E. Brunstetter

This book takes place in the area of Strasburg, PA.

It is Spring and Amy is gathering flowers from the family greenhouse for her Mother's birthday when she hears the caw, caw of the crow. Amy thinks this means something bad is about to happen. As the family finishes the birthday meal, they realize they all forgot the ice cream. As the men head out to the store...

Strange things happen around the greenhouse as the crow calls.

There is much to discover about life and death and how this changes everyone's life.
How we handle grief is different for each person no matter where you are in your faith.

I loved this book but I stalled at certain places because I had to put the story and the message it gave me, into my life story. I am very glad I read it

I received a copy of this book from the publishers and Netgalley.

I enjoy reading Amish books as kind of a palate cleanser between more intense thriller books. This book was very peaceful, sweet, and had enjoyable characters. I wish that the main mystery of the story was resolved before the end of the book, but it was an enjoyable read.

When I found out that Wanda E. Brunstetter was writing a mystery series, I was excited. I've read a few Amish mystery books by other authors and enjoyed them, so I had high expectations for this book.

The beginning of this story was challenging for me. The book started rather depressing, and I had a hard time getting engrossed in the story the way mysteries typically pull me in. I just didn't care for this story the way I do other books by Brunstetter. I'm hoping this was just the case for this book and that the next book will instantly hook me.

The worst part of The Crow's Call is the fact that I have to wait for the next book to come out! Wanda E Brunstetter has yet again woven me into a compelling mystery that has a what next affect. This family and their neighbors have just enough details to draw you in with bits of enticements, Great Job! and thank you NetGalley for this first bit of an addition!

Best Selling author Wanda Brunstetter has written another fantastic page turning tale with her newest book, The Crow’s Call. This Amish story is different than the ones most often told by author Brunstetter. It is still a Christian Amish Romance but has a mystery to it.

This is the page turning story of the King family. It is so captivating that I was immediately invested in the story. The lives of the family members were so interesting. Each character possessed a unique personality that made them easy to befriend. All are believable and well thought. Even some of the characters from The Prayer Jar series show up in this new series. I enjoyed the new Englisch characters and the lessons they taught.

The story opens with tragedy and heartbreak. It then deals with the timeless issues of loss and dealing with a new normal. The author has offered so many life and faith lessons in this book. Her writing style is superb. There are surprises and twists as the tale unfolds.

I highly recommend this book. The mystery is intriguing, the romance sweet, and the Amish delightful. I loved the inspirational message woven throughout this 5 star book.

This review is a long time coming...
I love mysteries and christian fiction so this book was right up my alley. However, I started this book and stopped it several times as I just could not connect with the attitudes or actions of the characters. I usually love books by Wanda E. Brunstetter. I did end up reading it again a third time and understood it a little better, however, I still won't qualify it as my favorite book by Wanda E. Brunstetter. I will read the rest of the series though to see how everyone else in the Greenhouse ends up.
I give this book 3 our of 5 stars.

Wanda Bunstetter always comes through with her thorough knowledge of the Amish life. In this book, a family is shattered when tragedy strikes on the mom's birthday. Amy & her mom must work through their own grief and also work the family greenhouse to provide for the family As they work their way through trying to save the family farm, they also have to work through the emotions that each family member has as a result of the family tragedy. During this time, they also get new neighbors who move in who present their own set of challenges. Brunstetter shows how the family works through their grief through their faith in God and also their hard work. Amy also has to work through her relationship with her beau Throughout all the family's troubles, the theme of family & faith prevail. This is a great read.....with the theme of the crow and it's call throughout the book. Also the them of trusting God through all circumstances!

I appreciate receiving a complimentary copy of The Crow's Call from this publisher and Net Galley and being able to give my honest opinion of a great author like Wanda Brunstetter.

This has been such a wonderful start to a promising new series for the author. I love how much the author knows about the Amish and it shows in each of her stories. We not only get to know the Amish better, but we feel as if we are in the middle of the story as it plays out. The author is able to take characters and make them come to life with emotions that tug on your heart and bring you a better understanding of God’s love.

There has has a great loss in one of the families when three members are killed. The void they leave behind will have lasting affects on other members in the family. I love how the community comes together to offer support and assures them they are not alone.

The greenhouse is a prosperous business that takes the remaining members a lot of work to keep it going. It doesn’t help that they are still grieving from the tragedy. Amy has a great head on her shoulders and is determined to keep the business running. If only she can get her little brother Henry to get over his anger and allow God to comfort him. What I really liked in this book was the mystery the author provides that really enchanted an already enchanting story. Someone is vandalizing the greenhouse and the property which causes Amy and her family to wonder who could be doing such unkind things to them? I found several suspects in my investigation but will I be right? And what is Henry up to with the annoying crow?

It is a refreshing start to a series that have characters dealing with grief, family, forgiveness and learning to trust God. The new neighbors are a mystery themselves when the wife doesn’t want to be sociable. I found that to be a great opportunity to have Amy or even her mother to reach out to her. The author invites us to join her as we follow a family through heartbreak and come together as a family to help each other deal with their grief. Don’t miss the discussion questions the author has provided at the end of the book. The book does leave us with a bit of a cliffhanger so be prepared to be on the lookout for the next in this series.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Barbour Publishing. The review is my own opinion.

Wanda Brunstetter's new Amish Greenhouse Mystery series is off to a rousing start with The Crow's Call. As the story unfolded, an ominous wind was in the air so when Amy King heard the sound of a crow calling she knew it wasn't a good day to celebrate her mother's birthday. She shouldn't be superstitious but every time she heard a crow call, something always seemed to go wrong. Then, later that evening, tragedy times three changed her family's life forever. The chilling dynamics of grief are as varied as the person who is suffering. Picking up the pieces for her family wasn't going to be easy but Amy seemed to let the responsibility rest on her shoulders. As she pitched in to help her mother run the family greenhouse, she assumed much more than the duties required to help the business continue.

Mysterious things began to happen that seemed to be coincidences until they began to happen more often. Who could possibly wish to undermine their family business? Her brother Henry resented helping out in the greenhouse. He also didn't want to do chores on the farm and didn't understand why he couldn't go enjoy a bit of fun with his friends. Was he pulling pranks on the family? Or was it Sylvia, who, as a young wife and mother couldn't raise her head above the daunting task of raising her small children alone, let alone live without her beloved husband.

The cast of characters in this story are as complex as the mystery surrounding the greenhouse. Amy and her mother seemingly manage to get through each day by running their business and learning the ropes that Vernon so effectively handled before his death. Now, though, with so many upsetting random acts of vandalism, they are wondering just who is doing this and why.

Could it be teenagers on their rumpspringa? The new English neighbor who has made it plain she doesn't care to live near the Amish? The homeless lady who shows up at odd times or someone else? Only one situation was resolved in this book, so maybe the culprit will be discovered when I read the next book of the series. I do like a good mystery, and The Crow's Call kept me guessing. I recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. Thanks to Barbour Books and #NetGalley who provided me a copy of this book for an honest review. My opinions are mine.
