The Heart’s Stronghold is a compilation of four stories set in the early days of America.
Virginia Company Bride by Gabrielle Meyer is set in 1608 as Anne Burras arrives at the settlement. She was brought to the new world by her mistress who passed away on the ship before arriving. Not particularly welcomed as the only woman how will she survive until the ship returns to England?
Embers of Hope by Kimberley Woodhouse is set at Castle Island off Boston in 1673. The Castle is the only stronghold protecting Boston from attack. Many of the men are very superstitious about having a woman on the island. Will the commander be able to overcome when a woman arrives?
A Treaty of Tulips by Angie Dicken is set in 1740 Oswego near Niagara Falls. Sabine and her mother and father have emigrated from Holland and live peacefully near the local Indians but feel threats from other tribes and the French the traders moving in. Will their British neighbors at Fort Burnet be able to offer protection?
A Promise for Tomorrow by Amanda Barratt is set in 1778 Kentucky Territory. Peace is very fragile among the whites and native Americans. Will an attack on the fort end the American’s time in the territory?
I enjoyed each of these stories and found them to be very engaging for the reader. All of the characters are well thought out and developed even though they are short stories. I give this book a solid 5 of 5 stars.

I love reading stories of brave, strong women in history or any time period for that matter. The authors are some of my favorites, so I knew I would like these novellas. Gabrielle Meyer, Angie Dicken, Amanda Barratt and Kimberly Woodhouse all give us a view of what the American Frontier was like. Spanning the time from 1608-1778, There were many hardships and life could be very short. You will be taken on a exciting journey back in time with each of these short stories. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Books through NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

Four novellas comprise this collection featuring authors Gabrielle Meyer, Angie Dicken, Amanda Barratt and Kimberley Woodhouse.

Spanning the years 1608-1778 and set in the earliest years of our nation's history, these stories will satisfy any lover of the American Frontier. I was thoroughly interested in the history here and the hardships the earliest colonists suffered in the dawn of our nation.

This collection of four-novellas was a little hit and miss for me. I loved some of the titles, but not all. However, overall they were a great compilation of historical events and locales with danger, romance, and conflict. No objectionable content or language so you should feel comfortable giving to your tween or your grandma to read - lots of faith-based content.

I loved these stories! Especially the one about Fort Boonesborough since I only live five minutes away!
The way Barratt wrote, I felt like I traveled back in time to see what it was really like! In a way, I wish I could spend one day in 1770's Kentucky. What must it have been like to see Kentucky for the very first time and see the Indians? I love Kentucky's history!
I also enjoyed the other stories as well!
This makes for a pleasant afternoon reading.
I didn't want to put the book down!!
All of the authors in this book are wonderful and their stories are just the best!
I loved what each story had to offer.
I am going to buy a print copy to add to my shelf of favorite books for 2020!
I try not to miss any of these ladies full novels!
I was pleased when I seen this book.

A slice of early American history provides a unique setting for these four inspirational stories. From 1608 Jamestown or Fort James, to 1778 Boonesborough, Kentucky, the history was quite interesting, including real people, places and events.
"In a land where life was short and precious, he’d found that love grew quickly."
Battling superstition and treachery within, and dangerous conflicts outside the walls, the early forts made good backdrops for quickly developing romances. Soldiers, frontiersmen, and tradesmen met their match with courageous, hard working women. I liked them all, but particularly enjoyed the last one with the action and real events. The first one was very good also, with its interesting history.
Recommend to readers who enjoy historical romances with some action and inspiration. 4.5 stars

A Heart's Stronghold is a combination of stories that take place in the 1780s or prior. Each story is a beautifully written story by various authors. Each one has a good enough premise to be a full novel. I enjoyed each story very much and wanted it to continue on. Great stories, great writing!

Heart's Stronghold is a very charming book to read. One of the reasons I love historical fiction is the differences in culture from past to present. These stories bring out the chivalry and charm from long ago while also highlighting the difficulties and challenges of the early settlers, especially the women. These stories are well written with lively characters. I also love that the novellas are the perfect length for start to finish reading.

I loved all 4 stories! My only complaint is that I wish they were longer! That being said, the stories were all nicely done in the form of novellas, set during time periods that I enjoy reading about but can have difficulty finding good stories set in this time. Each novella had wonderful, resilient women and each had a lovely message in it. I've read many other books by these authors and these wonderful stories are heartfelt, exactly what I'd expect from them!
