If you have not read a book by this author, you are doing a disservice to yourself. Her writing style is on point with top notch action and intrigue that explodes across the pages. The characters are well developed and trained experts in t completing their mission.

The book digs deep into the dark world of spies, assassins and pure evil. Lief is my very character with his strength and attitude. He won’t allow anything to get in the way of his mission. I loved his fierce loyalty to his team and tried not to let anything distract him. Iskra and Leif have friction between them but I think it made them stronger as a team. They have an important task before them and need to put aside their differences for now. I call their relationship a slow burn that sizzles just at the top. It needs attention but the author allows readers to get small doses at a time.

I became impatient with myself as I tried to read as fast as I could. There are so many “I didn’t see that coming moments,”that I was nearing the edge of my seat. I had to hold on as the story dove deep into enemy territory. It’s a race against time as secrets are exposed and terror surrounds Leif and Iskra. Without giving anything away, I will say the author has written a story that screams for justice and prayers that the team stays safe and conquers their quest. I have a few questions I hope to get answers to in the next installment of the series. Get ready for the ride of your life in this story that whisks you away to foreign countries and in contact with people who will do anything to protect what is theirs.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Bethany House. The review is my own opinion.

Heart-Pounding Missions To Stop The Activation Of A Super Army With Deadly Intent Leads This Team Of Intelligent, Special Forces Operators On The Quest Of A Lifetime. Kings Falling demands your attention and will not allow you to put it down.

As the search for the Book of Wars continues, Leif Metcalfe and his team, Reaper, will stop at nothing to keep the Neiothen from activating and destroying the world! Award-winning, best-selling author, Ronie Kendig, is back with another heart-stopping novel that will keep you simultaneously on the edge of your seat and turning the pages as fast as you can.

What is there to say about a novel that one finds simply excellent all the way around? Since reading Storm Rising, book one in the Book of Wars series last summer, I’ve racked time with ten other Kendig novels. Her masterfully created paramilitary stories are fascinating, captivating and heartwarming. Upon the release of her newest book, Kings Falling, book two in the Book of Wars series, I’m here to encourage readers to run and grab a copy of this book for themselves!

It is no wonder that Ronie Kendig is a best-selling, award winning author. The diverse, heroic male and female characters she created for the Reaper team are people we, as readers, connect with, admire and adore. To find them back together again to continue where Storm Rising left off, hunting down the Book of Wars while decoding the bits and pieces of intel they gathered from the book that was thought to be lost in Biblical times is thrilling and readers can be assured danger is just around the corner!

Kendig lays out yet another gripping storyline with fast-paced action and daring maneuvers. Her military jargon and realistic unfolding of events demonstrates her knowledge and excites readers with fiction that is unlike any other. She delivers authentic characters with relatable fears, joys and struggles as well as deepening romantic relationships among the team. The twist, and added benefit, of an imaginative, spell-binding supernatural element is just icing on the proverbial cake.
I highly encourage readers to read Storm Rising first. Kings Falling picks up where Storm Rising left off and will continue with a third story, Soul Raging, slated to arrive in fall of 2020. In comparison to the first book of the series, this newest novel didn’t have quite as much action but the camaraderie, intensity and banter among these friends and teammates was the same enjoyable experience!

Kendig’s books are more edgy that most Christian fiction but are free from profanity. Her books do contain military tactics and are mildly graphic and may contain an element of gore. I recommend her books for adults and mature teens 16+.

Since I don't love the different, weird, and somewhat crazy content I won't be reviewing Kings Falling on my blog.

This is a different book from any I have ever read before. I enjoyed parts, I just don't really like the content though it is interesting.

Just, whoa! This book took me on the wildest ride and then dropped me off a cliff. Book three cannot get here fast enough for me! Ronie Kendig is the queen of rapid-fire writing and globe trotting action. If you haven’t started this newest series yet what are you doing? Just make sure you’ve got 911 on speed dial before you get going. Reaper is back in action and things are getting real, fast. Despite their best efforts they always seem to be a step behind the Neothen and the consequences are international in proportion.

Prepare yourself for a binge read. There is enough action, intrigue and romance here that putting the book down won’t even be an option. I can’t wait to see what insanity Kendig has in store for the finale!

These are the myriad thoughts stampeding across my mind after reading Kings Falling…

I know (personally) how much time and effort goes into writing a novel. The blood, sweat and tears. The dedication, creative prowess, and all THE WORK. And I respect the level of creative juices that Kendig so obviously poured into Kings Falling, but…there are some things. I know that I’m the oddball out in my feelings after reading 5-star review after 5-star review, but that doesn’t change how I felt during and after I read KF.

#1 Connection // I did not feel connected to Leif or Iskra at all, which was terrible. I remember liking both characters in Storm Rising, rooting for them and their relationship, but in KF, I got nothing. Nada. I didn’t like Leif, I didn’t really feel like I got to experience HIM, as a character. He was unreadable and stone-cold and…strange. Which I understand was part of his character evolving with the plot, but I didn’t feel like I wanted to root for him, I wanted to fire him as an MC.
I had more of a reader/character to Payton and Adam than anyone else--and they were secondary characters. I felt like I was getting more military intel and slang/abbreviations than meaningful connections. The way character interactions went over the course of the book typically felt like it does when you walk into a room and no one gives you eye-contact. It’s weird, vague, and feels like something is off. People are distant and unreachable, and every possibly meaningful interaction gets cut off right when it was about to get good. That’s kinda how the characters (apart from Peyton and Adam) felt in KF.

#2 Information // The level of information relayed in KF was (for me) just mind-blowingly expansive. I could hardly keep up—correction—I couldn’t keep up with the amount of information being thrown at me. I honestly couldn’t track. Which leads me to #3

#3 Character Count // Maybe it’s because I read Storm Rising many months ago and wasn’t refreshed on the character list, but when Kings Falling started, I was asking myself who everyone on the team was. I couldn’t remember certain characters, especially with the way they are referred to by first name, then last name, then their military call sign—yikes! I couldn’t keep them straight. I didn’t know that Braun was even a woman until almost the end of the book, and each time she was referred to as a woman, I was like, “What? I didn’t know Braun was a woman!” And that was just the main characters. An overwhelming amount of fringe dues and dudette’s got introduced so rapidly, my head was spinning. Add to that the amount of information being dumped on me, I got irritated with how much information was descending on me, as a reader, who felt like I’d built a house on sand, not stone, and was being washed away into the sea because I didn’t have secure footing/foundation. Which leads me to #4

#4 Plot Pacing // For points 2 & 3, you’d think the rate the plot was moving, would be fast. I felt as though, until almost the 3/4 mark, the plot was quite slow. A few explosions and “taking fire” moments don’t make a plot feel like it’s moving forward. After a while, gunfire gets repetitive & starts to feel like a garbled kind of white noise, more than the action you’re hoping for as a reader. So, as I was saying, for a thriller, I felt the pacing of KF was overall, pretty slow.
The ominous carrot of information and discovery was always being dangled just out of reach, which I don’t mind, but for a whole book? No.
You may be asking, “Why are you referencing not having enough information when you JUST said there was too much of it?” It’s because the over-information mentioned was crazy high analytical intel (kinda like being told to remember a book full of numbers) that didn’t have a launch/landing pad my mind. I had NO referencing point in which to store the information, so, like all information that doesn’t have a firm mental holding place, it went in one ear and out the other. I was hoping for more personal details on Leif and Iskra and the others to ground me to them, the plot, etc., but the information we got was mostly technical info like “We’re going after our next target—Kelly Finnegan who is a corporal in the DOD but is working undercover for Helli Energy Solutions in Hawaii, and her call sign is Blackbird.” Nice information and all, but I was looking for more personal/emotional information that would help me feel like I was EXPERIENCING a character and what it felt like to BE THEM throughout the book. And yes, I picked up on that at a few points in the book, I’m not saying it never happened, but…it honestly didn’t take place enough for me to have felt like I was really there experiencing the plot.
It irked me how the theme of the book was “let’s go stop this attack before it happens” and then the group goes, doesn’t stop the attack, they seem to have accumulated no actual information to further their investigation, they’re left asking how it went down, and they couldn’t stop it…and then this same scenario is repeated, but in a different city, with a different crowd, and the same general cluelessness amongst the ranks of the team. There was so much information in the pages of this book, but the amount of useful information as a reader (and that it seemed the team in the book) was digesting, was not high.

>>>>Some SPOILERS BELOW<<<<<
For how much information we received (point #2) I don’t feel like the plot actually advanced enough by the end of the book. I mean, didn’t we all suspect Leif was an ArC super soldier from the beginning when we were told he had six missing months and the military was hiding something from him? He couldn’t remember what took place during those months—we all knew he’d been experimented on and had his memory wiped, so why…why was the confirmation dangled as “THE BIG JUICY CARROT” for the whole first book, then the second, and that’s it? I was hoping for SO MUCH MORE!!! So much more. And maybe I’m just not super into the whole Sci-Fi world, and it actually happens a lot, but the first thing I thought when I heard about the ArC soldiers being audibly activated with a code, or a phrase—all I could think about was in the Captain America movie when Bucky gets activated, and it just seemed...off. Maybe it happens all the time in Science Fiction, but I just…this girl just wasn’t buying it.
>>>>>>SPOILERS CONCLUDED<<<<<

I respect the effort and time put into this book. In a creative capacity, it is quite incredible. I respect Kendig as an author—& I’ll continue to read her books (which I always rate highly) because she is a literary genius—and I TRULY mean that. She is brilliantly gifted in the creative department, and the character growth/interactions I’ve read in her books have been over-the-top incredible.
However, this book just felt far too ambiguous and head-spacey, and I felt like it wasn’t pulled down from the creative cloud in a way that was digestible and enjoyable to me as a reader. As I said at the beginning of my review, I know I’m in the minority for my thoughts on KF. But…they are what they are. I don’t have a grudge against this book or hate it—I don’t. It just (for the reasons shared here) really didn’t make me want to dance a happy jig as a reader. Which is fine. Every book is not for every reader, and I understand that.

Ronie Kendig takes her signature Rapid Fire fiction to a whole new level in Kings Falling. With nonstop action, conspiracy theories, and witty banter between the tight Reaper team the reader barely gets a chance to turn pages let alone breathe.

Just about the time I figured something out Ms. Kendig threw in a new twist that I didn't see coming. Which for this fan of Ronie Kendig's made the book all the more fun to read.

I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. Suffice it to say that I really hope Soul Raging, book 3, answers some of the questions that are left hanging.

I highly recommend this book and series! If you haven't read Storm Rising, book 1, I recommend that you do so before diving head first into this story.

Disclaimer: I received a copy via the publisher. I was not required to write a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Firstly: if you did not read the first book in the series, Storm rising, stop right here and go read that first. Otherwise you will be a bit lost and also missed out a lot on these characters.

Second: do not read the summary of book 3 before you have read this book...rather just not read the summary at all! And just buy book 3 as soon as you can.

Ok, now we can continue. Ronie Kendig is the master of playing with her readers’ emotions. She brings you this great cast of characters, she makes you love them, then she throws them into all sort of danger and action and leaves you hoping your favourite characters will survive, because in the past they didn’t (Tox files anyone?).

This second book in the series was great. Not only did we get to see great action, but we get a great team who each works through their own growth and baggage as well as being there for each other. Leif is such a great character...in this book we see him facing more of his unknown past (which I’m wondering if I’m guessing correctly what that past is) as well as his relationship with Iskra who is still dealing with her own demons from the past.

And the twists and turns we were taken on! Did not see that!!

And just when you are really into this story and things happen which you don’t like and want to see how it will ends...you have to wait for book 3! I love this series and I love this team.

The only negative I have (for the publisher) is that the cover of the page gave me the impression that a certain character will be front and center but then wasn’t - I kept waiting for her to rise up and take charge.

If you like paramilitary you should read this series. If you have never tried Ronie Kendig, try this series (though I would start with Tox files since some characters’ backstory is in that series).

Excellent! The search continues for the Book of the Wars with Lief Metcalfe leading Reaper across the world to track down the Neiothen (soldiers who have been trained to assassinate). It's a deadly game and the enemy always seems to be one step ahead. Full of fast paced adventure and edge of your seat excitement. I did not see the ending coming. Cannot wait to read the final book in the series Soul Raging when it releases.

If you thought Storm Rising was suspenseful, think again. Kings Falling picks up where we left off with Leif Metcalfe and Ronie Kendig keeps up the mystery and suspense. Her writing keeps you guessing and just when you think you have it all figured out, she throws in a twist. The book is never boring and keeps your eyes glued to the pages to the point that you just can't put it down. Worthy of binge reading with its predecessor Storm Rising. The book is a perfect blend of the rapid fire action that we all know and love as well as the hints of romance in a realistic and Christian manner. If you decide to purchase, I guarantee that you will finish screaming for the the third installment. A must read especially in these trying times.

Let's just say this is a difficult review to write because all I want to do is happy-scream about this book and that's hard to do without giving away the ending. So imagine I'm yelling good stuff at you, but my teeth are bared, my mouth closed, and despite my puffy cheeks, my face is all kinds of happy.

Because that's exactly how I feel.

I've read quite a few Ronie Kendig books, but usually well after an entire series is published, so I never had to wait for the next book to come out. This is the first series I've read as it's been introduced to the world, and let me tell you... It is the best kind of torture.

Okay, so... what can I safely say without ruining it...? For starters, read book one, Storm Rising. Can you read book two without having read book one? Sure. It's a great read. But you're going to feel like you're missing out on a lot of background and history, and the suspense/tension factor will be so much better if you've read book one. And along those lines... if you read Storm Rising last year, it wouldn't hurt to re-read it again before you tackle Kings Falling. I wish I had. There were a few things I didn't quite remember that I wish were fresh in my mind.

This book. These characters. This storyline! WARNING: It's going to feel unfinished--and it is--because this book is quite clearly the bridge between books one and three in that it's both continuing and ramping up a storyline that will not be resolved until the next book. So many questions... so many things to scream about (in a good way)... I'm dying over here!

If you can appreciate a writer that gets you so invested in a story that you're literally chomping at the bit to continue reading--Kendig is for you. Seriously.

What a wild ride.

Just when I think she can’t possible give us a more compelling story, she goes and does it again! Ronie is a MASTER of her craft. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to compose any eloquent words after the last page of that book. EEK! Is it November yet? I NEED Soul Raging!

This is book two in The Book of the Wars series, and you will definitely want to grab the first book before you start Kings Falling. In true Ronie Kendig fashion, she wrote another story I devoured in less than 24 hours. Once you start, you won’t be able to put it down until the very last page.

If you love a story with suspense, intrigue, high stakes, fast pace, and where nothing is quite what it seems, this series/book is for you. The plot alone is worth raving about, but Ronie always does so well with the depth of each character. I honestly can’t say which aspect she does better. (Ok, is the characters. How can you not just fall in love with them? Oh, but the PLOT * fans myself*. FINE. It’s all good, y’all!)

This book was not at all what I was expecting, but that’s ok. I’m along for whatever wild ride Ronie is about to take us on. I will say, that despite getting a bit of a different narrative, it was still MEGA INTENSE. I also must be fully honest and let you know that that there is an EPIC CLIFF HANGER at the end of Kings Falling. If you have a pre-existing heart condition, maybe you should go ahead and buy books 1 & 2 and just wait until November for book 3. I promise you’ll want to read them all, but it isn’t worth your life. (Ok, kidding. Kind of.)

All in all. I have SO MUCH LOVE for this book and this series. The characters are ones I just can’t seem to spend enough time with. Ronie, I know BHP give you a word count limit, but they should just give the people what they want. We need MORE! Please?! Definitely a must read, friends. Get your copy NOW.

I was given an early copy of this manuscript through NetGalley for my honest review. I enjoyed it so much that I bought it in both paperback and audio. All opinions expressed are my own.

Edge of Seat, White Knuckle Reading

Ronie Kendig does not disappoint with her second book in the Book of Wars series, Kings Falling. She is the queen of military suspense and this story will grab your full attention as you sit white knuckled on the edge of your seat.

“As the race for the Book of Wars escalates, the world teeters on the brink.”

Will Leif and Reaper be able to stop the ArC? What will become of Iskra and Leif’s relationship? What happened to Leif?

These are all questions that you will be asking as you read through Kings Falling. Kendig knows how to work a story so that it twists and turns in a way that keeps you from seeing what is right in front of you. Her plots are full of suspense, lots of action and drama and a little bit of romance thrown in. Her plots will keep you as riveted as her characters and the interplay between them.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.

Another winner from Ronie Kendig!!!

Do you like books where you can predict the ending (and most of the storyline) from the first chapter? Then put this book down.
On the other hand, if you like plot lines that twist and turn, getting halfway through a book and questioning who the real good and bad guys are, THIS is the book for you!!!

Action, adventure, intrigue, a touch of romance, this book has everything except a chance to catch your breath between scenes.

This second book in Ronie Kendig’s Book of the Wars series had me from page one. I loved Kendig’s Tox Files series, and never expected to enjoy the spin-off Book of the Wars series as much as I do. But, can I tell you a secret? I think I actually like the spin-off even more!
As in all of Kendig’s book that I’ve read, her characters are so very well-crafted that sometimes you don’t know who is “good” and who is “evil.” The levels and depths she creates within each character are mind-blowing. And her plots keep me turning pages long after I should be asleep. But who needs sleep when the Reaper team is trying to save the world?
I could not stop reading Kings Falling. It was absolutely non-stop from the first moment right to the final pages, and now I am desperate for the next book! I highly recommend you pick up Ronie Kendig’s Kings Falling (unless, of course, you haven’t read the first book in The Book of the Wars series, Storm Rising, because you really should read it first). You will find yourself absolutely swept up in the action, wonderfully oblivious to all the craziness going on around you right now!
Many thanks to Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley for the digital copy of this novel for review purposes. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my very own! 🙂

Kings Falling is a labyrinth of a story that kept me turning pages as fast as I could without coming up for air! Ronie Kendig has crafted a unique and enthralling thriller of a story with high stakes, believable circumstances, and a team you would want to covering your 6.

This is the kind of book that’s best read in sequence with the first book, Storm Rising. The pace of Kings Falling never lets up – with almost whiplash impact, Leif, Iskra, and the team travel the globe to put together fragments of truth about the famed Book of the Wars. Seeing the team reunited and learning more about some of my favorites was just a bonus (I’m talking Mercy, Lawe and Pete, and even Cell). Getting a peek into their perspectives every now and then added more layers and tension (ahem, CELL) to the events happening. I really, REALLY hope book 3 will complete some of these hinted story trails!

I’m intrigued – though not at all surprised – with the way Kendig has crafted this story. Every tiny detail is important to the whole, and the cohesion of the plot and of the characters on the page is riveting. I was, in turn, surprised, delighted, frustrated, humored, mad, and even impressed; sometimes all in the same paragraph 😉! The psychological dimensions and growth of Leif and Iskra were my favorite.

I highly recommend this story to any fans of military suspense, thrillers, or action-packed, team-centric drama. November and Soul Raging (book 3) can’t come soon enough!

Thank you to the publisher, Bethany House, for the review copy. This is my honest review.

Can we say upping the ante Batman? Everything Ronie Kendig is known for, witty banter between team member, intricate plots with twists and turns, conspiracies, intrigues—it’s all within these pages ten fold. And good thing this is fiction or all the conspiracy theorists would be on high alert😅. Make sure to read book 1 though! Now I’m marking days off my calendar for book three to see how this epic story ends

Loved the variety of characters and the realistic dialogue between them. The suspense factor is off the charts good. There were a few times I was a little lost with the military discussions and terminology, but that was my fault, not the author’s. The ending left me reeling!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but this review is all my opinion

“Leif tightened his jaw and curled his fingers into a fist. I’m committed. I’m not going to walk away from something I haven’t finished.”

The intensity just keeps ramping up with every turn of the page. Storm Rising was among my top picks for last year, so I’ve eagerly awaited this second book from The Book of The Wars series.

“Six months of my life are missing, like someone erased them. How can that not be bad?” Leif continues to struggle with that missing chunk of time. Digging for the truth. What happened?

With unexpected twists and turns, Kendig masterfully draws us into a whirlwind rush to stop a massive worldwide conspiracy. Kings Falling is filled with so much action, intrigue, travel and adventure that I felt like a part of the Reaper team. As Reaper seems to fail one mission after another in stopping ArC, I couldn’t help but feel their frustration and losses. I loved the camaraderie of the team. Their whit, banter and communication was really well written. Kendig had me laughing, cheering, wincing, and worrying over this team. The reference to chess and the kings’ falling was a great picture of how this story was played out. The culmination of the book had me begging for the final book in the series, with a cliffhanger that was unexpected and intense. The rollercoaster ride this team took, kept me wondering what would happen next. I absolutely loved Leif and Iskra. Their relationship holds so much promise and yet, so much to work through to attain their happily ever after. Kendig brought so many ups and downs for this couple and the Reaper team, that I can’t wait for the rest of their story. This story was awesome, so I know book three Soul Raging will be phenomenal.

I highly recommend this series for anyone who loves international conspiracy, special ops, and just a really great read. I would liken this series to Joel C Rosenberg, who I just read and thoroughly enjoyed. There is a light touch of romance that has a thread of sticking together through the tough times. Warning: This book should come with a disclaimer that it will cause an overactive imagination or the conspiracy theorist in you to come out.

I was provided an advanced reader copy of this book through NetGalley by the publisher. All opinions in this review are given honestly.

This is the second book in a series. The complex storyline means you must have read the first book in the series. I would also recommend having read The Tox Files series to fill in more background information.

This storyline is character-driven. Having so many characters can be confusing at times. All of the characters are a part of a black ops team, Reaper, that is trying to find The Book of Wars before the Armeggedon Coalition, ArC tries to take over the world's economy. Leif Metcalf is the leader of Reaper. He has a 6 month blank in his life that he is desperate to find an answer as to what happened. His girlfriend, Iskra Todorova, is desperately looking for her brother who might be part of an evil Superarmy of ArC. This super army is activating members and then killing them. Reaper's mission is to figure out who is going to be activated and try to stop the activation. Friendships start to break, while the team works to accomplish its mission.

Once again, Kendig packs action, suspense, and intrigue into one powerful story. The action is at it's peak, and you have to wait for most of your questions to be answered in the next story. If you enjoy military action, suspense and intrigue this series is for you. Go out and buy Storm Rising and King's Falling you won't regret the ride.

My thanks to Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley for providing me with a free e-copy to read in exchange for my review.

"Kings Falling," the second installment of the Books of the Wars series continues to hold your attention hostage! Kendig's commitment to military authenticity is obvious in all her special forces stories, which I appreciate. The characters are familiar and well developed and the reader can't help but connect with them.

Leif Metcalfe and the rest of the Reaper team are back, attempting to recover the famed Book of the Wars. The group that is in possession of the ancient texts, the Armageddon Coalition, are as deadly as they are devious, and nothing will stop them from attempting to bring the disturbing prophecies held within the book to life.

As the team begins this fight that could alter the course of history, Leif's past disappointments and close calls rear their ugly head. Can the Reaper team actually defeat such formidable opponents? Can they survive the challenges ahead of them? Or will fear wedge itself in between the members of this special ops team?

Taking the reader across the globe, from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Afghanistan, and the Netherlands to Taipei, the second book in the series will capture your attention with dangerous spy drama and luscious settings. The characters are flawed, but strong, and the team's connection is believable. Kendig always keeps me on the edge of my seat and excited for the next book to come. Don't miss this one!

I was an early reader, thanks to Bethany House and the author. All opinions are my own honest thoughts on the book.
