I enjoyed this story of Bo, a little girl who wanted to be treated the way she saw herself - as strong, brave, and capable - not the way her big brother saw her, as just a little girl who shouldn't take on dangerous or frightening tasks. Bo fearlessly goes after exactly what she wants - hunting for monsters - and finds, instead, a whole different world from the one her brother told her to fear. What she finds turn out to be blessings in disguise, rather than adversaries. The book teaches the reader, without being preachy, about fearlessness and about how a different perspective can bring about entirely different results. Great picture book

Bo the Brave is another fantastic picture book by Bethan Woollvin. The story is an adventure about growing up with siblings, bravery, and kindness. The fun illustrations have tiny details with cheerful color combinations. Looking for monsters, Bo finds a Griffin, a Kracken, and a Dragon. What will Bo do? And who are the real monsters? "Get ready to be got" by this very special book!

Bo is the youngest in the family and just wants to do what her brothers do, but when they tell her she can't go out monster hunting with them, so sneaks out on her own and discovers more than she could have ever imagined. The illustrations were cute and Bo is a likable character, but the underlying message was just a bit too heavy for me and ruined the story's enjoyment.

I'm mostly familiar with Woollvin's fairy tale retellings, so this was entirely new to me!  With fun, bright colors, and her usual incredible art style, we're introduced to Bo, who wants nothing more than to fight monsters on her own.  The problem?  She's too small!  But no worries, she can easily find some monsters to pummel...until she realizes that they're actually pretty nice!  I'm not entirely convinced that this is as strong as her other work, but it's so fresh to me and adorable that I really can't complain!  Great for grades PreK-2.

When Bo’s big brothers refuse to let her go monster hunting with them, she goes on her own adventure. Bo the Brave discovers what makes a monster instead of a friend.
I love the colorful illustrations and the moral about looking at someone’s actions instead of only what they look like. The protagonist of this book is a girl, and I appreciate the promotion of a female hero in a book for children. However, Woollvin promotes the heroine by setting up a contrast that puts down the boys in the story, which I don’t think is a great message to send.

Bo's brothers go out monster hunting, and won't let her come along. She decides to do some monster hunting by herself, and ends up befriending some creatures along the way.

This book is so cute! Bo is truly fearless and kind and smart, and I loved her sweet character. The story is interesting and funny, with a repetitive plot that is perfect for little readers. Children love repetition and this book has just the right balance in the writing.

The illustrations are captivating! The contrasting colors really focus the attention on key characters and items in the artwork, and the rest of the background is in black and white. It's beautifully done, and I love the art style.

The messages of kindness and self-reliance are wonderful, and teach children a little lesson in a fun way. The whole book is perfection, and I enjoyed it so much!

Sweet and colorful picture book about a little girl who strikes out on her own to fight monsters when her big brothers refuse to take her with them on their hunt and discovers through her adventures that is human hunters who are the monsters, rather than beasts like griffins, kraken, and dragons.

This is a cute little book about bravery and doing your own thing.

Bo's brothers want to go out monster hunting without her, but she decides to seek monsters on her own.

However, each "monster" she meets, tells her that they are not the monster, they are just a dragon, or a kraken, or something, and that there are worse monsters out there.

A good but not great story about bravery, and what monsters really are.

Good for showing bravery in girls.

This was okay but to me it wasn’t my favourite kid’s book. The art was cute and the overall story but it just felt super rushed and I feel like the plot could’ve been a little smoother.

Overall, it was okay and I’m certain kids are gonna love it.

2/5 ⭐️
