This is a really fun story. It has the feel of a fable, complete with a lesson at the end, and has the sing-song-y rhythm that makes for a good read-aloud. Jiva has planted his garden, and tends it with care, looking forward most of all to the peas he planted. His friend, Ruvji, comes by and admires the almost ripe peas, and Jiva says he'll pick them tomorrow. He puts up a scarecrow to protect them, but in the morning, someone has taken them! Ruvji suggests it was rabbits. Jiva puts up a fence to keep rabbits out, and soon more peas are almost ripe, and Ruvji notes how delicious they look. The next morning, they're gone again, and Ruvji blames ghosts. You see where this is going, right? Jiva manages to catch his friend stealing his peas the next time some are ready to pick, and tells Ruvji he must cook him a feast of peas to make amends. The feast is delicious, and Jiva forgives his friend and shares the feast, and the two sing and feast together. The illustrations throughout the book are colorful and fun, with lots of detail, and we get a hint at the end that Ruvji might not have learned his lesson, as we see him peeking at Jiva harvesting tomatoes and eggplants. Oh dear!

This is a cute, super fun book about a farmer in India who loves his peas!!! Jiva is growing his peas just waiting to have a big feast once they're grown; however, something keeps stealing his peas. What or who keeps stealing his pea pods out of his garden??? Will he get his big feast of peas he desires? An adorable story of how peas bring together two friends.

My son and I read this book together. He loved it! The little song Jiva sings to his garden is catchy and silly to sing. It gives the book so much character. We had such a good time reading this book. And the illustrations are so bright and vibrant. They are perfect for the story!

It's a great children's book that I can see buying for my nieces and nephews. Definitely recommend for your kids!!

My thanks to Kasmira Seth, Peachtree Publishing and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cute story that kids would enjoy. I really liked the illustrations. They were bright and lively. This would be a good book to work with students to analyze how illustrators are able to capture the words of an author.

Jiva lives in India and loves his garden, especially his peas. Jiva's peas keep disappearing overnight, so he tries to find out what happens to them.

This is a cute little book with wonderfully done illustrations.

Planting and growing peas is serious business for Jiva but each time he’s ready to harvest them they’ve mysteriously disappeared. Fun, colorful with a repetitive rhyme makes this a good choice for kids.

Thanks netgalley for the ARC.

Feast of Peas is the story of Jiva who lives in India and tends to his garden. He cares for all of his produce but is giving extra attention to his peas. He hopes to have a feast of peas and even sings a song about it every day. Children will enjoy the vibrant colors and expressive faces in the illustrations. When the day finally arrives the peas are gone but luckily for Jiva his friend Ruvjii is there to help. Day after day the peas disappear and every day Ruvji offers up a reason why accompanied by a solution. Children will enjoy the mystery of the missing peas and the repetition throughout the book. I could see teachers using this book for a novel engineering project as well. This book is suitable for children ages 5 to 9.

This is a cute, repetitive story of two friends, in India, and growing peas.

Jiva is planing a garden, and plans to eat the peas first, as they come up first. His friend, Ruvji wants the peas as well.

Peas keep disappearing, and Jiva keeps trying to come up with ways to not have that happen.

Bright, colorful pictures. Beautiful pictures of Indian food, and community.

Good picture book to have.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

Sheth and Ebbeler did a fantastic job with this story about Javi, a farmer who can't wait for his peas to be ready for harvest, and Ruvji, his friend who also can't wait for the peas to be ready, and the antics Ruvji went to to get his peas. The story is not enjoyable in ebook format, however.

Love it! The illustrations are rich in color and culture, and so is the story. There's a good lesson learned at the end too. Jiva can't wait to eat the peas he's so carefully nurtured, but something keeps happening to them before he can pick them! He has to problem solve and be a little tricky to catch the thief.

Javi loves peas. He continues to grow them and once they are ready, someone or something continues to steal them. Javi is devastated. This is a great book to use to make predictions and to teach theme.

Feast of Peas is a story set in India about a farmer who's looking forward to harvesting his peas and having a feast. But someone else also has a taste for peas and keeps stealing them as soon as they're ready to pick. Jiva has to come up with a clever plan to figure out who's stealing his peas before they're all gone!

This is a pretty strong picture book. It features three-fold repetition like many old fairy tales, a little bit of rhyme, and lovely illustrations that capture the essence of the setting.

I'd recommend this to readers looking for something in the fable and fairy tale vein and/or to those who enjoy stories set in India.
