A lovely addition to any library, be it a home, school, or public one. This story finds Farmer Falgu traveling to the Kumbh Mela, or Festival of the Pot. He is eager to try the delicious foods and see the sites of the festival, but gets waylaid by helping an elderly woman, a lost little girl, and a man on crutches. He takes this all in stride, saying "Maybe next time." His kindness gets rewarded in unexpected ways, and he makes his way home after having a wonderful day.
An author's note follows the story, explaining the Kumbh Mela and the other Hindi words in the text. The illustrations are resplendent, simple but full of color and life. The message of being kind even if it causes some sacrifice to one's self is gentle and sweet, and learning about Indian culture was interesting (and made me hungry!).

Beautiful book with lovely illustrations of a journey in a different ways. Farmer Falgu travels a great distance just to get to Kumbh Mela and it's worth it each and every time.
