this was a really strong book, the characters were great and I really enjoyed reading this. It really deserves it award.

Different kind of story line for me. Did learn some things about India where this takes place. I had a hard time reading this book! I got lost somewhere between countries and people with different names but they were the same people. I just couldn't finish I don't know if it was the copy of the book,but it looked like I lost sentences and I just have up! If I could have figured it out,it may have been good!

This book was a little hard to read. I had a lot of trouble following the story line and I think my e-copy wasn’t formatted that well- sentences often stopped midway and restarted in the middle of following paragraphs.

I enjoyed what I could glean - the escapades of a modern woman born in the wrong time. Delia presents as a woman with many secrets and acts courageously to protect her adopted children and family from the potential ruin presented by the Russian by-blow of her fathers philandering. I got lost in the Russians storyline, he disappears suddenly from the story and I’m not sure what happened or how she got rid of him....most characters also have 2-3 names which became confusing.

I loved the setting - Calcutta in the time of Britain’s colonization there. I think the language needs to be brought down a bit - while I enjoyed the banter between characters I often was looking up definitions, and going back to figure out who people were..

All in all this novel has a lot of potential but needs a bit of polishing.

Following the life of Cordelia Moran in 19th-century Calcutta, Baby Snakes is funny, insightful and prose that flows along like water.

This is very British, historical fiction at it's finest.
