This was a good book. It's about a girl named Adelaide who had a summer with many possibilities where she falls in and out of love many times. This book was a good read as in a way The Cruel Prince was for me. Not my favorite but was still pretty good. This book was more about self-love and family love than it is a romance which was not what I expected. The writing style was unique as I never saw this format before. The author writes the story with having a possibility of 3-5 ways of what could happen to Adelaide's story like should she kiss the guy, chicken out, etc. I liked the writing style but at times it could also be confusing. There really wasn't much pacing to the story as the story didn't really have a plot. I would describe the book as something like the author's outline or a sort of playbook. Overall the writing process was very unique but kind of not my thing.

The main character in this book is Adelaide who struggles with her life and wants to find a boyfriend. I enjoyed her character development in the book but didn't really feel connected with her. I also enjoyed the family members in this book who helped Adelaide grow but didn't enjoy her different boyfriends as they felt were a tad boring in the novel. Again, there wasn't much romance in this book but I did enjoy the family theme in the book. Seeing Adelaide and her family reconnect through their journey was nice to read about as I love seeing families develop throughout the story together.

The ending was okay and not the best. Overall the book was good with a few minor problems that I had. As I never read a multiverse storyline book before, it was very new and foreign to me as I wasn't familiar with the way I should properly read it. I recommend this book as readers will enjoy it especially those who love multiverse storylines, self-love books, and family bonds.

E Lockhart knows how to keep you hooked. All of her books have this heavy melancholy and things that make you think. I struggled through this due to the heavy subject matter. We were liars did the same. But I love that a book can keep you turning pages even with the sad parts I wanted to finish it.

I enjoyed this book a lot and loved the progression of the characters and seeing them from the beginning of the book vs at the end. I think there were some unnecessary scenes that didn’t make the story go forward, but it did give moments to just see them act. Overall enjoyed it!

This book dishes up high school romance with a dash of a whimsy and a bittersweet sense that nothing is permanent. After her brother's drug addiction splits apart her family, Adelaide loses herself in a whirlwind romance with Mikey Double L, who dumps her right before the summer of their senior year. Adelaide is shattered.

Adelaide's spending the summer working as a dog walker for teachers at her private school, trying to get her grades up after a semester where she didn't have the emotional energy to even try and struggling to both feel lovable and to learn to love. But then she meets Jack at the dog park, and begins to think he might be everything she's looking for.

This book pulls the reader into multiple universes, where each small choice Adelaide makes leads to a very different outcome. The style is lyrical and lilting with the prose sometimes lapsing into verse, mostly when Adelaide is having an emotional breakthrough. You'll find yourself glued to the page as choices lead Adelaide to fall in love in different ways with different people. Maybe Adelaide will find love in an alternate universe or maybe she'll find it in this one.

The dogs that Adelaide walks are characters in this book, and they are perfectly delightful. They have adorable names - how can you not love dogs named B-Cake, Rabbit, the Great God Pan, Voldemort and Ellabella? Each one has their own great personality, and we even get to peek into their thoughts from time to time. They added an extra layer of playfulness that I loved.

Adelaide's a character you can root for again and again, and I loved how we got different glimpses of the supporting characters' personalities in each universe. In the end, this is a story of how, when we open ourselves up to love, we also open ourselves up to pain, and we may not know what our perfect happy ending will look like until it happens.

Trigger warning: addiction

AGAIN AGAIN is an intriguing YA contemporary that tells the story of Adelaide's summer. Adelaide is still reeling from her brother's addiction and rehab stays as well as her boyfriend who told her he loved her and then said he had lied when he unexpectedly dumped her. The first part tells the story of how she meets Jack, a boy that had written her a poem long before this all happened, but who never followed up with a phone call. The story is woven with possible other dimensions/universes where similar situations happen but in a different way.

The second part becomes deeper as we learn more about her brother, her grief, and the difficulty in their relationship, which largely stems from addiction. The parts after this become something even deeper, as we begin to see Adelaide embrace herself, decide how to relate with her family, and resolve the major issues seen earlier.

What I loved: The later parts make this an emotional and touching read, and I particularly appreciated the scenes with Adelaide's brother. This theme of addiction, grief, and family was really strong, and I appreciated the emotion and potency of it. The possible deviations from key moments really worked here, and I found this to be particularly unique and fascinating in these scenarios. The romantic relationships evolved in a way that I found interesting, but the earlier sections were more challenging to get into.

What left me wanting more: The first part of the book was particularly difficult to read, as the scenarios became confusing, and it was not really clear what was happening. It took some extra time to try to understand, and the payoff was not really there, as the plots felt somewhat random. This did become more clear with the later situations.

Final verdict: AGAIN AGAIN is an intriguing YA contemporary about family, grief, love, and addiction.

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I really don't know how to rate this book because it wasn't what I expected, especially coming from E. Lockhart ... but it's a quick read and you can finish the book in one sitting.

The story is about finding love, it shows different stages of a relationship; how it begins, how that it takes its course, how it ends, and obviously, you end up with a broken heart, and then you overcome that heartbreak with another relationship 😂.

The main character Adelaide, not only has trouble getting over her last relationship, but she also worries a lot about her younger brother, who is addicted to drugs. We can see her anxiety and everything she does to help her brother and her family through all the story. Adelaide also tells us different scenarios of the same situations but making other decisions, I wasn't fond of those scenes because I found them confusing while listening to the audiobook.

It was a particular book, I didn't like it or hate it. Also, if you're expecting something like We Were Liars, then don't read this book.

After several chapters I knew it would not appeal to my students and do not plan to purchase it. Thank you for the opportunity to read it for preview purposes.

DNF at 30%. Unfortunately, I could not get into this book at all. The writing style didn't appeal to me, nor did the way the story was presented to me. I had hoped for a cute and fluffy romance, but it was all mixed up in my head, which made it too frustrating to continue.

Again, Again was extremely boring from beginning to end.
I don't know why I torture myself reading YA contemporary if I know it's not my type of genre.
Again, Again contains different timelines or outcomes of situations in the life of our main character, Adelaide Buchwald.
The book was super confusing and I really don't know if I was reading different timelines of Adelaide or things that were part of her mind. The way it was written didn't make sense to me, maybe I'm too old to read "coming of age" books.

Another wonderful book for E. Lockhart fans. This is a great book for fans of dogs, young love, tough conversations, and brilliant writing.

I requested this book from Net Galley as I really enjoyed We Were Liars, but this book was nothing like that. It was sort of a multiple universe story as Adelaide's story was told in different scenarios depending on what/how she or someone else reacted in different situations. It was hard to read in the beginning, but once you grasped the format it became much easier. It sort of reminded me of myself as a teenager, when I would replay a scene in my head by how I wished it had gone. . .

The important part of the story was Adelaide's relationship with her brother, and this almost gets lost in this format. I wish that there had been more attention paid to that storyline and not so much on Adelaide's love life - or lack of one. Overall, it wasn't bad and introduced me to a new format of storytelling.

Was excited to read this book as We were Liars was great but I had a hard time with this one. It was a struggle to keep up with the multiple lives and I just couldn’t connect with the main character. Just didn’t work for me.

A sweet multiverse story with sadness, but hope entwined. Adelaide misses her friendship with her brother, and on top of that her boyfriend ends their relationship after 8 months. She mets Jack when she is walking her dog and remembers him from a couple years ago! Could Jack be the one for her?

I loved the multiverse aspect!

I loved We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, but I found Again Again very hard to follow. The jumps to different possibilities made it hard for me to follow the time line, but for readers that enjoy different possibilities and not necessarily a linear text then you may enjoy this book.

Again Again by E. Lockhart - 3/5 stars

Trigger Warnings: Substance abuse, overdose, underage drug abuse

I received a free copy of this novel through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I listened to this novel on audiobook which might not have been the right choice. This novel is told through a very interesting way, taking place throughout multiple timelines. I checked the physical copy and these timelines are indicated by italics and other techniques, but it can be a bit difficult to follow along on audiobook.

Overall, this was a solid story with an interesting concept. I wasn't too invested in the story unfortunately, but I think that's more my disconnect with Lockhart's writing. I had the same issue with a previous novel by them.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of Again Again in exchange for an honest review!

First off, since I am so behind on ARCs, I decided to listen to the final version of this book on audiobook & I 10/10 recommend doing it that way. The audiobook does an excellent job at transitioning between the different realities.

You ever just wonder what could happen depending on what decision you make? Do you ever think of the possibilities one moment can lead to? Again Again explores these possibilities, taking our main character Adelaide on a journey through multiple romances, while she confronts all of her ideas on love.

I thoroughly enjoyed Again Again; it was unique and special, and honestly, so dang relatable for teenagers. While reading this, I took a step back and placed myself into the mind-setting that I had in highschool & by the end, I just wish that I would have had this book at that time.

It's beautifully well-written & I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a good Contemporary read.

Am I an e. lockhart fan boy? I keep reading her books and I enjoy them enough to keep reading them, and frankly this was one of the most interesting that I’ve read so far. Why? In part because of the unabashed way it simply shows alternate universes without overtly explaining that what is going on is a philosophical and physical and emotional existence of multiple universes. There are just multiple universes. And it’s not overdone. And I’ve seen some criticism of the book in the form of “but which one is the real universe… what actually happens?”
Well that’s the thing, isn’t it. I really like the un/certainty.
The book is more complex than it could be, if it just held on tight to the central plot. That’s often my experience reading YA. If you think you know what is happening in the YA universe and you aren’t reading any YA whatsoever, you are likely wrong.
Honestly confronting the interior lives of young people is good, fun, interesting work, and I like to read it. I liked reading this. I’m apparently an e. lockhart fanboy and I’m not apologizing for it. I’m reinforcing it here, there, and everywhere.
