The Future King sees the time students back in action and increasing problems for Fort! The time students share images of the future with Fort and his friends revealing looming disaster. Which visions of the future can the gang stop from happening and which visions might they cause? In a tale of magical destiny, self-fulfilling prophecies, and ultimate power James Riley has created a captivating world and a thrilling third novel for the Revenge of Magic series.

My favorite quote from this book comes from Damian the dragon, “Never trust a hero, they’re all hiding something.” In The Future King every character has something hiding and every character as the potential to be a hero because everyone seems to want the same thing. The future shows a magical war that must be stopped; the world must be protected from magic. However each person from Fort, to Damian, William, Colonel Charles, Cyrus, and even Merlin, has their own idea of how this needs to happen. Some wanting to save the world from the problems of magic also want to control magic themselves. The only one motivated by something more than saving the world and magic is our true hero Fort. He wants to stop the magical war of the future, but mostly he just wants his dad safe. Fort may have less selfish reasoning for his actions but will he remain our hero, can he resist the call to magic, and what secrets can he keep hidden?

In the third book, The Future King, Fort finds out something important at the end of book two, something that is happening to the UK school. They are the ones who have time magic and students can see the future, but because of it a lot of them went kind of crazy, except for Cyrus (you learn all about him in book one).

Things ramp up a lot with this one and Fort and the gang have to try and right some wrongs and do what they can to keep a certain magic book from someone they know because if they don't the whole world will be destroyed.

I really have enjoyed this whole series so far but by far I think the third book has been my favorite. It was so fast paced and full of lots of action and you didn't know who was good or bad and of course it left me kind of hanging so I can't wait for the next one!

I really enjoy all the characters in this book, they are all very flawed but they think they are doing what is right or at least trying too. Fort, Jia, Rachel, and Cyrus all have different abilities that help them to survive and in this newest book we get introduced to some of the UK kids which was interesting.

I think anyone would enjoy this series but I am sure that young readers will have a lot of fun following these characters on their adventures from the real world to another dimension and back.

This is the third installment in Riley's series, "The Revenge of Magic." We are back in the world of magic with Fort Fitzgerald, and this time there's another school of magic too! My students love this series, and I think they will love this one too. The aspects of foretelling, the fantasy elements, more schools of magic, and of course adventure will surely lure readers back into this series. Riley's writing is descriptive, engaging, and thought provoking. He uses rich language that is accessible to middle grade readers. Highly recommend this books! I will be purchasing it for our library collection.

The publisher generously provided me with a copy of the book upon request on NetGalley. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

This newest installment flows well and shows an interesting new way to combine old Arthurian myths with the existing Revenge of the Magic storyline. The multiple intersecting timelines were intriguing; they made it a fun read, but a little difficult to follow at times. You really need to have read the two books that come prior to this one for it to make sense. It doesn't work well as a stand-alone, but as a continuation it's excellent!
