What a read. The more I read the more I thought I knew what to expect. Boy was I wrong. A police thriller I could not put down I HAD TO KNOW THE TRUTH. This book had me sat on the edge of my seat and constantly holding my breath. Another great read from this author. Thanks to Joffre Books and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review |

This was a fast paced thriller, the characters were believable with a great storyline. Look forward to reading more by this author. Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book. |
This was an interesting read. Stefan Greaves works for a law firm and he is brutally attacked while investigating what is happening in the postnatal ward. And then a body is found in the river, are there any links between these crimes? Thank you Netgalley and the author for this opportunity. |

Really enjoyed this. Was full of twists and turns that you didn't see coming. Would definately recommend |
I just couldn't get into this book at all. It was too slow and I found the commentary by the various characters boring. It just wasn't for me, sorry. |

This is an interesting book, which held my attention. There were enough surprises to keep the pages turning. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. |
An engrossing read. Not a perfect mystery, but it keep me turning pages until the end. I would definitely read more from this author. |
This is one heck of a ride. A mugging turned crazy thrill ride. A book where you think you have it all figured out, and then wham the plot thickens. I love books I fly through, that don’t take much effort. Minus the minor technical difficulties in the beginning, the book was worth it. Love police thrillers that keep me on edge. Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review. |
I’m a huge fan of Ms. Collett’s DI Mariner series. So I was very excited to read her new book (and hopefully not a stand-alone) as usual, her writing is well thought out and there are plenty of twists and turns. The subject matter is very interesting, something I’ve never really seen written about. It’s a fast paced read that I really enjoyed. |

Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe books for this advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This is my first book by Chris Collett, having read none of her DI Mariner series. This is a stand alone novel that is based upon the apparent random mugging of Stefan Greaves one night on his return from the local shop. It soon turns out the mugging was not so random and there is more than meets the eye to various events that are taking place in the local community. The book is told from the intertwining viewpoints of Stefan and local police officer Mick Fraser. I initially found the book a little tricky to get into as we are introduced to lots of characters within the first few chapters but sound found my footing. As the mystery began to unfold I found myself constantly just reading one more chapter to find out what happened next, a sure sign of a book that has me hooked. With the short chapters and constant switching of viewpoint it would be easy to loose the thread of the story but Collett handles this really well and as a reader I always felt involved in the plot. There is lots of suspense and the author creates a real build up of tension as we near the final third of the book. I read the entire second half of the book in just one day as I was desperate to know where it was going,. Where it went is my only minor criticism of the book as for me the ending was just a little too far fetched. Throughout the story any minor holes in the plot could be ignored as the story was so fast paced and engrossing but for me the ending went just the one step too far. Overall I had a great time with this book and the characters. Stefan, Plum and Mick are definitely people I would be happy to spend a further few hours in the company of if there were to be a follow up. I will also seek out some the authors previous work in the DI Mariner series. A great, well paced and plotted thriller, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book with a real mystery at its heart. |
A well written and certainly unique, twisted crime novel with a disturbing plot line. Admittedly though I prefer this author's Mariner series. |
I really enjoyed this book so much. It has a really great plot, superb main characters and I read it in one sitting. I would highly recommend this book. |

Fast paced police thriller with interesting characters, a disturbing storyline and lots of twists. A mugging turns into a lot more and Mick Fraser must persevere to solve the crimes. |

This story has many strings that all lead to one ending. Stefan works for a law firm and is approached by Rita a long standing nurse who wants him to investigate wrong doings within the wards caring for babies. As he accepts this case, he endures a serious beating whilst out to the shops which leave him critically injured. Detective Frank's is working alongside his new partner Denny, an unfriendly character, who is due soon to retire. This story is told from the perspectives of both of these men who become further linked after the deaths of both Rita and Denny. Questions are raised around these deaths which leads to a scandal within the hospital. New author for me but very enjoyable read, I definetly recommend. |
This is a reasonably complex tale, told from the points of view of two characters: Stefan, the victim of a mugging, and Mick, the investigating police officer, a newly arrived police constable. Each has access to different sources of information connected to a suspicious death; is it suicide or murder? The main suspects, if it is the latter, are fairly easy to spot, but there are a few red herrings to cloud the picture, at least one of whom is hard to spot. The prologue, and the bit of the investigation to which it links, helps to clarify motive as well as being a minor red herring, but this is somewhat gratuitous since Stefan can easily work it out without this help. Although the two main protagonists meet and interact regularly, they miss opportunities to pool information, which would have speeded up the whole process. Overall, though, it is a well written and enjoyable read. |

I’m sorry, I was unable to finish this book. I got about a quarter of the way through it and actually just found it really boring. I might try again later to read it but I can’t promise |
This was a great, twisted mystery. We follow alternately Mick, a cop, and Stefan, a lawyer, following an assault on Stefan. Great story with many twists and Mick and Stefan are super characters as weird all the supporting characters. I appreciated the representation of a main character with CF. It was in some ways central to the plot, but also not important which was wonderful to see. |
I really enjoy the writing of author Chris Collett having read her DI Mariner series so it was interesting to read her new standalone book 'The Truth about Murder'. Stefan Greaves emerges from a coma, after been brutally mugged while investigating a complaint at a local hospital. The woman who visited the law firm where Stefan works had feared something very sinister was going on in the hospital’s postnatal ward. Now she has disappeared. Policeman, Mick Fraser and his partner Denny Sutton interviews Stefan and try to track down the missing woman. Then a body is found on the riverbank. There are more secrets to be uncovered that first thought. I really enjoyed this book , decent plot and characters that grew on me as I read the book. I would like to thank both Net Galley and Joffe books for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. |
