I was introduced to Schweblin by a coworker to highly recommended I read “Fever Dream.” That book haunted my dreams for a month and I am frequently reminded of that work. Even though “Fever Dream” left me terrified, when I saw “Little Eyes” I couldn’t help but put in a request. This book was less terrifying, but still very unnerving. Imagine Furbies that other people controlled living in your house. We are basically there. This is too close to our current state of technology; this could very easily be our reality soon. Schweblin is a master of words and creating those unique feelings that ensures you won’t soon forget her book.

Schweblin is an enviably skilled writer, and this new book was as darkly humorous, insightful and pleasing as her other work. I am currently participating in an #InternationalBooker2020 shadow panel, and have included this on my personal shortlist. Once the official list comes out, I will be writing more about our panel list as well as the Booker list. I will update here then. Many thanks for access! You made it possible for me to complete all books on the longlist.

Pardon me for being a little picky but can you tell me a little more about the cover design selection? It seems out of sync with the content to me.

Not what I was expecting. . .

I had high hopes for this one, however, it did not rise to meet my expectations. I could not find a common bond to the characters and that is important to me. Being able to relate to the characters in a particular novel is huge. Either it is there or it isn't. Just like on a first date. I find that the more you can connect with a protagonist, the more enjoyable the book. I just wasn't able to find a connection to the characters.

I also found the plot hard to believe. There were some twists I was not expecting, however, which is always refreshing. The writing also was very well done. I'd give this one a 3/5.

Little Eyes is disturbing and human. A global trend is rising to become either a keeper or dweller of a Kentucki which I imagined as a Furby-like creature controlled by anonymous IEP connection to a stranger. As keepers and dwellers vary in their connection to each other and the motivations that bring them together, the stories of Kentucki keepers and dwellers and their sometimes bizarre interactions is sure to be one of the best books of the year.

Darn, I autoclicked on this one based on the author, but I wish I had read more about the plot beforehand because voyeurism is NOT my thing. Great writing as always, though! Totally a me-not-you DNF.

Fantastic. Just when I can't think Schweblin could get any better she knocks me off my feet with this story. Fantastic for any fans of horror and these characters will stay with me for a long, long time.
