The drawing is fine, if uneven. While the book is certainly open to interpretation, none of the interpretations were very interesting to me. Mr. Rodriquez as an angelic collector of the souls of dying small creatures seemed most likely; I guess you could also think of the deaths of small pets, (goldfish, dead bird in the backyard), as a kid's warmup to the idea of death, capped off by the death of an elderly neighbor.

I wasn't taken by this mixture of my-first-book-of-death and magical realism, but I don't mean to be harsh. I'd just be careful about casually gifting this.

this one was really odd, and it was also lacking a plot. very nice illustrations though, i'm just not sure what i think about this one.

The artwork was beautiful! I loved the contrast of the lighting and I felt like each page had something interesting to look at even though the scenery wasn’t incredibly detailed. The story wasn’t bad; I just felt like there was something missing. Perhaps a transition in the end? But it was by no means a bad book. Just missing something.

I have no idea what just happened in this book.

Each day, Mister Rodriquez added something magical to his routine. But we never find out why?

The illustrations were great, but I have absolutely not a clue as to what the plot was about.

The illustrations were interesting almost like the Polar Express animated film. The story, however, was lackluster -- there seemed to be a big buildup to nothing. And the magical nature of the story didn't have any context or reason. While magic doesn't need to make real-world sense, it should make sense within the story. I was disappointed--any potential fell flat in the end.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
First, the illustrations. To die for! Absolutely beautiful work that helps evoke the feeling of magical realism that infuses this story. As adults we love magical realism...why can't we imagine our children enjoying it as well? After all, magic and children go hand in hand. Not every picture book has to have a beginning, middle, and end. Let's allow children to use their imaginations while reading, and then discuss it with them. Why do they think Mr. Rodriguez was floating down the street with a goldfish on his head? Why did he fly away with a piano? Is it about death, as one reviewer stated? I think "Bon Voyage, Mister Rodriguez" is open to interpretation, and can be whatever the reader wishes it to be. A beautiful, lovely book that I highly recommend.

I had a very incomplete ARC of this book, only 12 pages and some of them were cover pages and blank. There were about 4 random pictures in my version. The art was nice on those, but without seeing the rest of the book it's hard to see enough to recommend it.

Frankly, I have no idea what is going on here. I suppose Mr. Rodriguez is some sort of spirit? But the book leaves it open to interpretation.

Lovely pictures, but no real plot. Not sure what the point is, but perhaps I am not a small child and can't guess what I am supposed to read into this.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

Bon Voyage, Mister Rodriguez by Christiane Duchesne is a beautifully illustrated story about an enigmatic man who strolls the streets of a village, seemingly at random, but with a very particular job to carry out. This is a lovely story that will transport readers of any age to the beautiful and mysterious world that is inhabited by Mister Rodriguez.

Many thanks to Myrick Marketing & Media LLC for the opportunity to experience this wonderful book.
