I think that all the chatter about this book before I read it set the expectations of thiis book in a direction that was unfair.

This is not at all a character like Lisbeth Salander or a book like Stein Larrson’s Girl with a Dragon Tattoo. Sure, a book originally written in Swedish, a smart woman seeking revenge but really that is where the similarities end.

I enjoyed aThe Gilded Cage and parts of the book were hard to read, emotional abuse, revenge but the story of the friendships and loyalty and family were the best parts of the story to me.

A fast paced thriller that takes the reader on a ride with quite and ending!

Great book! A bit predictable times but definitely an enjoyable read. Twists and turns aplenty. Great story of a arrogant man who gets it all then takes it all from the wife who got him there. But the fun is what happens after that occurs😊

The Golden Cage is the book that everyone needs to read to get empowerment when faced with men who have blatant disregard for women. Yes they are still out there. This is a story of a seductive revenge like no other domestic/psychological thriller that I have read in the past. I was unable to put it down and devoured each chapter holding my breath.

Camilla's plot is so elegantly written, the female characters are developed beautifully, the revenge was bulging forehead vein thrilling, and the protagonist was such an inspiration as to why woman MUST finish their education before getting married. Be an independent, strong, human for your sake! I was completely invested in the story and has become my new favorite psychological thriller.

There were so many topics and lessons addressed this book:, friendship, female empowerment, abuse, and betrayal to name a few.

This page turner really kept my interest & I couldn't wait to return to it @ the end of the day. A very strong sense of place (Sweden) coupled with very well developed characters & a great plot twist @ the end kept me interested throughout. However, the many sex scenes, some of them seemingly gratuitous, make this difficult to recommend to many patrons, especially older ones.

I enjoyed reading this book but while reading it I often felt I had read this story before. It feels very similar to many other current books but is still worth a read.

Publisher’s Weekly called The Golden Cage, “ Sexy… exquisite… scorching.” And I feel mean being this blunt, but I wonder if they read a different book than I did? I thought the book was okay, but as far as a sexy, thrilling story of betrayal and revenge, I just didn’t get that.
Faye is very smart and very savvy, and somehow gives it all up for Jack, the man she has had her eye on since her coed days. And right off the bat, I don’t buy it. I know some men hide their true nature well, but for the most part, if you are a smart, sensible woman with good instincts, you can smell them coming from a mile away.
Not only that but she has given up on herself, gaining weight, becoming bored and mainly being a trophy wife who has lost her shine. And I just don’t feel that Faye could be both that, and a genius business women and a superficial trophy wife. Does she really think Jack loves her THAT much?
But of course, when he strays–as they inevitably do–she finds herself again, rises from the ashes and deliberately and slowly builds her revenge. I did think the book picked at this point, but I just wasn’t feeling the deep satisfaction that an amazing book can bring. I guess just not my cup of tea.
Special thanks to Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group and Netgalley for an advanced e-galley in exchange for my honest review. This one is out July 7! This review will appear on my blog, Women in Trouble Book Blog on June 8, 2020.

Hell hath no fury like a woman with a violent past and is bent on revenge.

Faye married Jack Adelheim, an arrogant, self-entitled co-founder of Compare, a multi-million dollar kroner company. They also have a seven year old daughter, Julienne. Their marriage is strained, but Faye holds on by love even while Jack demeans her and makes her feel worthless. Faye has a very dark past which is hidden while she is playing the part of a wonderful wife. When she discovers upsetting things about her husband she sets out for revenge. Faye discovers that he's having an affair. The story jumps between past and present as we learn just how dangerous Faye really is.

It does start a bit slow while it sets the stage of secrets, betrayal and revenge. There are a few shocking reveals throughout and the ending is satisfying. Comprised of three parts, a fast moving novel had me turning the pages at quickly. I recommend this to fans of Scandi Noir and psychological thrillers. Sexy, delicious dark fun -- not to be missed!

A true page-turner.

I couldn't keep from turning these pages. While the plot is semi-basic : A woman who is betrayed and must plot her revenge.. Lackberg's writing is on fire. She has a way of wooing the reader with her words. Instead of this being "just an average book about a woman plotting revenge on the man who betrayed her," I felt it was much more than that.. because of Lackberg's talent.

The pacing of this book was outstanding. It was definitely plot-driven, which I never mind.

5 stars!

This book could not hold my interest. I just could not care about the characters at all. I enjoy my mystery’s keeping me on the edge of my seat. And this book definitely failed to do that

Wow! What a good book! Although I figured out where this story was going early on, I couldn't put, "The Golden Cage", down. Like so many women today, the main character in this story, Faye, has been physically or emotionally abused by many of the men in her life. However, Faye learns early on how to deal with those men and makes choices that help her in her journey. How she gets through it all makes for one he'll of a read. I highly recommend this book.

My first book by Camilla Lackberg and it won’t be my last. Thank you so much to Knopf Publishing, Camilla Lackberg, and Netgalley for this amazing ARC. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book and I can confirm they are all true. The cover is GORGEOUS and really sets the tone for an amazing book.

Thoughts: It was such a quick and easy read because her writing style drew me in from the beginning. I immediately connected with the story and loved the different components of it. Faye was a strong bad-ass character and I loved that. After so many books about a woman getting beat up by her husband, this was a nice refreshing change of pace. There were so many good points made about men and business and equality and I loved every minute of it. The author had a brilliant plot that came together to have me clapping my hands and cheering.

The contrast between Chris and Faye’s friendship over time was lovely and really gave the book some perspective. I loved all the different parts of this story and the way it played with the past and the present. The dynamic between Jack and Faye was very interesting when you see where they started and where they ended up. I felt that all the characters were real and believable, which is something I enjoy in a story. The ending gave me warm tingles of satisfaction, and I can truly say I loved this book! 5-stars!

Just not for me. Don’t have the patience to wait for the revenge to come. I’ll stick with her series books.

I quite liked this book. It was different than the authors other books but it was still good. Who doesn’t like a tale of revenge? I liked the main character and the relationship she had with her friend.

I’ve read all of Läckberg’s books to date, and this is my favorite thus far. It doesn’t hurt that revenge is a pet subject of mine (and I may end up teaching a class on it, for which this would be a lovely example)—a contemporary revenge tale such as this will find many fans among women who have been harmed by toxic relationships.

I received an ARC of The Golden Cage in exchange for an honest review. Faye had it rough growing up and told herself she would have it all someday. Faye meets Jack and begins her journey to building the life she always dreamed of. Faye makes sacrifices but ends up with the life she always wanted, sort of. Then Jack betrays her and Faye begins her journey of revenge. Jack has no idea who he is dealing with. This is a psychological thriller where Faye pretty much tells you exactly how she plans to destroy Jack. However, never fear, you will not see the ending that comes.

I was excited to get this book, but I was very disappointed. Didn't like the main character at all. Such a disappointment. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

Heard lots about this one and looked forward to reading it, but unfortunately it fell flat for me. Too many books too little time! Heard positive things from other readers so will most likely add to our collection despite not finishing it.

An absolutely fantastic tale about love, betrayal, and the most amazing revenge scheme ever. It is one day while still in school that Faye and Jack meet. Faye is ready to reinvent herself when she meets the notorious Jack. Something about him draws her to him and soon she finds herself dropping everything, including her self-respect, for this two-timing scam artist. Fast-forward several years later and they are married with a beautiful daughter. Jack is cold to Faye and treats her as if she has no clue as to the business world and it's goings-on. She discovers Jack is cheating on her and vows to get revenge, in the name of her own successful company. It doesn't stop there, however, as both Jack and Faye play a dangerous game of Russian roulette. And only one person will come out of it unscathed. This book will absolutely not disappoint fans of suspense and thrillers. Thank you to Netgalley, Camille Lackberg, and Knopf Publishing Group for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Twisty, at times infuriating ride. I enjoyed the main character’s progression; however, at times I became very frustrated at her choices. I did enjoy the character development, both of the main character, but also of other peripheral characters, such as the landlady. Still, it is difficult to become fully invested emotionally in a novel when the lead characters are not sympathetic beyond your basic revenge story. The twist at the very, very end was predictable rather than a shocker. Overall, enjoyable, but not life altering. Good beach read.

Camilla Läckberg's The Golden Cage is a twisty revenge thriller that readers are going to love. It's as well written as it is suspenseful, which is always a welcome treat.

Faye puts her ambitions on hold to let husband Jack take the lead in their relationship. She puts everything into their relationship, only to be replaced by a younger model. It's a tale as old as time. Instead of standing by, Faye aims for vengeance. I'll definitely be checking out other books by this author.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
