Drake Mowbrah, the Duke of Annick, was told by his mother that he needed a wife and heir. He woos Charlotte Trenthow. After the wedding in the carriage on the way to his home, he finds himself in a marriage with a woman he really doesn't know. Drake thought Charlotte was attracted to him, but what he found in the carriage was a cold woman.

When they arrive at his home, Charlotte meets her new mother-in-law who refused to hand over control of the household and a housekeeper that thinks she is protecting the Dowager Duchess.

Eventually, Drake and Charlotte realize most of their problems are due to miscommunication.

It took me a while to write this review because the only character I remotely liked was Drake. Charlotte was immature and self-centered. Drake's mother was the mother-in-law from hell. Drake and his love for music was the only thing that even remotely salvaged the book. I kept wanting to reach in and slap both Drake and Charlotte for not communicating.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley. Thank you.

After finishing the first book in this series, I was so happy that I was able to immediately start this one. I feel in love with the side story of Charlotte and Drake in the previous book and I was excited to hear more about them. I entered the book expecting it to be a new story, in the sense that it picked up chronologically after the previous book, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t. Instead, this book tell their story during the same period of the first book.

In doing so, you are better able to understand the events of the first book that took place between Lizbeth and Charlotte after Charlotte’s marriage. Having just finished the first book in the series, I went in expected complex characters and I was not disappointed. I related to both characters to a certain degree. The insecurity is something that I think all of us can empathize with. That and misunderstandings that seem to just go too far.

I recommend this book to anyone that loves a rollercoaster of a romance and a good period novel. I am excited to start the next book in the series.

If you like a hero with a troubled past, Drake should fit the bill. If you enjoy a happy ever after, this book has it. The story was good but several choices Charlotte made annoyed me rather than amused so by the end of the book I liked him more than her which surprised me because I started off liking her more.

This second book in the series was as good as the first. Drake and Charlotte enter a marriage of convenience. Both would like more, but outside influence and their own misconceptions make for a very twisted courtship. I recommend the purchase of this book.
Thank you Paulett Golden and NetGalley for allowing me this advance copy for my honest feedback.

I really enjoyed this second book in the series. I felt like the author stepped things up from the previous book and the story was very entertaining. I liked Drake having to woo his wife after their wedding and try to win her heart.

This is the second book in The Enchantresses series. These characters were introduced in book 1, The Earl and the Enchantress, but it can be read as a stand alone. I liked seeing the growth of these characters in this book. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fast-paced, interesting read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story is fresh, original and exciting with characters that are realistic and likable. The story had everything that I crave in a Regency romance.

I was not particularly looking forward to this book as Drake and Charlotte seemed so shallow. Boy, was I surprised! I love how Golden really writes her characters so well that what is seen from one character's perspective is _completely different_ from the other character's perspective. At the end, I actually think I like this book better than the first book, which was a high bar. Nicely done! Definitely worth a read.

Newly married to a Duke, Charlotte is only eighteen and hasn't got a clue how to be a Duchess or the intimacy of marriage. All she knows is her husband is a rake. Drake, the Duke of Annick, doesn't know how to approach his virgin wife except as a rake, which puts her off. Add into the mix his dominating mother and his secrets. This marriage seems doomed from the start. I was a little frustrated because I felt all their complications took too long to resolve. Sometimes I wanted to give them my opinion on what they were doing wrong. Thank heavens for Aunt Hazel! Finally they get it together. I must say Drake's secrets were nice surprises.

Some fairy tales begin with the kiss.

This is the love story of Charlotte and Drake as they turn a marriage of convenience into a fairy tale romance.

Drake Mowbrah, the Duke of Annick, needed a wife. After choosing an acceptable bride, he traps himself in a marriage of convenience and must tap his creativity to woo his frigid wife and fuel her passion. Drake battles scandals, duels, and his own carefully crafted reputation to win her heart.

Charlotte Trethow dreamt of a fairy tale marriage to the perfect man. When she marries the Duke of Annick, all her dreams should have come true, but no one told her happily ever after doesn’t start with wedding bells. Charlotte is thrust into a world with a plotting housekeeper, an interfering despot, and an unconventional husband.
Drake marries Charlotte never expecting to love her but Charlotte has dreams of her own.. Her thoughts do not include the marriage bed where his include only that.
This is my first time reading this author's work. it is a convoluted tale and I liked it somewhat but I'm not sure if would read more.
I gave it 3.75 of 5.0 stars.
I received a complimentary copy to read am am voluntarily leaving a review.

Book Two
Wow, I thought these two characters flimsy and dull following the usual marry for title blah blah. But in this book she brings life to two character I thought I would hate but the depth and insight into them is a true genius writing. Its only the second book but I’m hooked on the series and author.
I’m wondering how it took me so long to find these books. I can’t wait to read the rest.

This book took me a while to get into. I read Lizbeth and Sebastions book and I really wasn’t looking forward to Drake and Charlotte and reading theirs it wasn’t bad. They hurried to get married and well that’s how it was done. But they both wanted so much more. After awhile you start to respect Drake a bit but so much of this could have been avoided if there was communication.

After only a month of courtship the Drake Mowbrah, the Duke of Annick and Charlotte Trethow are married. He kisses inflamed him but now he finds himself trying to win his frigid wife. Charlotte is thrust into a world a whole new world of the nobility with plotting behind the scenes and unconventional husband makes for a great story. I loved theses wonderful characters as they both dance around each other as they slowly fall in love and find their true happiness. An excellent story and one I voluntarily wrote a review.

This was the second title in the series that I was able to read and while they were not my characters in the overall series, this was my favourite title so far. The author peeled back enough layers on the characters that had left a bad impression on me in the first title that I was pleased with the deeper development even though I still didn't find them particularly likeable at all. It's a mark of a well-written character that you can love someone you can't stand.

This story was steamy. The love scenes were dynamic even though things started off ice-cold. The characters were {deeply} flawed, with deep misunderstandings, and a great need to communicate. Obstacles and challenges in the set of circumstances, past relationships, and even family added layers of complication and while I knew a happily ever after was imminent, you couldn't help but cheer for the couple and root them on. This title was faster-paced in my opinion than the first title and I quite enjoyed the historical elements, backstories, and beautifully descriptive prose.

A delightful tale of a newly married couple trying to pave their own path to finding love.
After starting out their marriage with so many misunderstandings, will they be able to realize they are both after the same thing? Love.
I very much enjoyed the way Paulett Golden weaves the characters from both The Earl and the Enchantress and The Duke and the Enchantress into two fun and well written stories. It’s like reading a bonus book! The weaving of the two stories so seamlessly goes to show what a supremely great job Golden has done writing this series.
I will be rushing to read the next book. Thank you to NetGalley and Ms. Golden for a copy for review.

Drake Mowbrah, the Duke of Annick, needs a wife and fast before his overbearing mother chooses one for him. He becomes infatuated with Charlotte Trethow and they marry within the month. Both go into the marriage with unrealistic expectations and misunderstandings and miscommunications abound. Throw into the mix the cold and cruel Dowager Duchess of Annick and Charlotte's first month in her new home is a nightmare. Can these two find a way back to each and be their true selves?

I was looking forward to this book and was hoping that Charlotte had matured a bit from the first book. I get that she's young, but I found her constant whining about her situation annoying. The biggest surprise in the book is Drake who was not the arrogant duke portrayed in the first book. I loved his passion for music. The author does a great job of teasing out Drake's talent and how his mother made him feel about it. The writing is well done and I'm looking forward to reading Lilith's story.
