This is a collection of delightful and charming stories written by a group of four talented authors. Each book features a schoolteacher, but with different plots and heartwarming romances. I am glad I picked this one up because I know have 4 new authors to follow! Each one did a fantastic job with providing vivid descriptions and transporting me back in time so that I felt like I was experiencing the story for myself. The storylines were all artfully crafted with well defined characters. I really enjoyed this collection and look forward to reading more by these authors.

Four novellas set in the mid to late 1800's and each featuring a school teacher were well-crafted and heartwarming historical romances written by four different Christian authors. It highlighted how teachers can change the hearts and minds of students whether they are young or adult. Each story was encouraging as students and teachers learned to overcome obstacles. It also gave a glimpse back into how different teaching was in that era compared to today's teaching. My favorite among the stories was Lessons of the Heart by Terri J. Haynes, a new-to-me author. Adelene Burris finds herself teaching a regiment of colored troops to read in order to help them better learn all the marching drills. It showed the power teachers have to change both children and adult lives.

I received an ARC from Barbour Publishing via NetGalley, this review is my opinion.
All do I usually I am a huge fan of collections, I’m not sure what. But there is something missing here. All do well written, the first story in my opinion was missing maybe a bridge. It all happens to fast and we don’t see the characters developed. I think that the author had a great idea, but I think it needs to go a bit deeper, the story feels a bit superficial and the end feels like a rush. The second story all do unusual, I did like it. A second chance and guilt, I like how the author to her time to show us the inside of each character, we have a big image of how they get there. Lovely story and beautiful end. The third story, well is uncommon, I like the elements of the story and how is not the typical love story. The final one, I enjoy it, but I really didn’t understand the hesitation of the main character in taking a decision. But aside from all the things I didn’t like, I think is a good choice for those that love historical fiction.

Review of Lessons of the Heart by Terri J. Haynes: Wow, this is a super special, spectacular, and sweet story that has me in love with a new civil war story. A need to read!

This novel holds four heartwarming stories of teachers in the 1800’s. The stories were well written with characters that will stay with you long after you have finished. Each story was inspirational.
Many thanks to Barbour Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Teachers are such a powerful voice in their student's lives and can change educational outcomes immeasurably. This fact is the case in the first story of this collection: Lessons from the Heart. This story is of a young African American Teacher who bettered the lives of the soldiers in her classroom by encouragingly teaching them to read. This skill gave them the ability to learn the military drills they had formerly struggled in vain to learn. Each novella set in the 1800s is entertaining and inspiring. I recommend this to anyone looking for a light, uplifting read. My thanks to Barbour and NetGalley for an ARC for this my honest review.

A Teacher’s Heart: 4 Historical Stories of Learning to Love by Lynn A. Coleman, Lynette Sowell, Cecelia Dowdy and Terri J. Haynes
I loved all four stories. I found them all to be heart-warming and delightful
All four stories are set in the late 1800’s and it was delightful to see how challenging a teacher’s life can be and how those challengers changed from 1860’s to 1899.
I loved how the bible and God were mentioned in all four stories and that we must make God the centre of our life. I love it when strong Christian values are included in a book.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Barbour Publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I really enjoyed these sweet stories! The era is well represented and you really feel like you are a part of them. Each author shows her unique way of showcasing her writing talents and each is different yet interesting! You will enjoy this book!

This was a delightful collection of four different historical stories that all had one common thread...special teachers.
Each story was heartwarming and encouraging though they all faced obstacles in their teaching careers. It truly gave a glimpse back in time at the sacrifices teachers made and how invaluable they were and still are!
I definitely recommend this collection of stories to anyone who enjoys clean historical stories. I received an advance e-copy of this book from NetGalley. This in no way influenced my review, all opinions are my own.

A Teacher's Heart is a collection of four sweet stories. These stories include:
Lessons of the Heart by Terri J. Haynes
Courting the Doctor by Cecilia Dowdy
Schooling Mr. Mason by Lynette Sowell
Lessons of Love by Lynn A. Coleman
My favorite was Lynn A Coleman's Lessons of Love. I am giving this collection five stars.

This is a book of four stories. Something you notice in these stories is the heart of teachers. They are doing what they can for their students. These stories are inspiring. The book is a quick read and interesting. Even though there are over 400 pages in this book it is well broken up because of the different stories. If you are looking for heart-felt stories this is a great book. The historical aspect is a delight as well and the variety of stories is a wonderful change of pace. Each writer does an excellent job with their story. Some of the stories were a little stronger on the teaching theme than others, but all show the heart a teacher has.
These are interesting stories showing us how it was to be a teacher in the past.

I really enjoyed these 4 short stories. They are all about teacher's that have to overcome some kind of problem that their faced with the man that they take a liking to, sometimes they have to realize they even liked him. But the problem that these teacher's have to overcome are anything from family secrets to giving up their careers for love. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who loves to read christian fiction.
I received a free copy to review from NetGalley but this review is my own opinion. #ATeachersHeart #NetGalley

A Teacher’s Heart is a collection of easy-to-read inspiring novellas written by four talented authors. These well-crafted stories chronicle the lives of teachers in the mid and late 1800s in various settings. The characters in each story are believable and endearing, and the stories flow at a fitting pace. The faith element permeates and enhances each narrative. I enjoyed these stories and highly recommend this book.
I received a copy of this book in e-book form from the publisher via netgalley but am under no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Like all novella collections, this one tends to lack cohesiveness in terms of story quality. However, the real standouts are the two contributions by African American Christian authors, Lessons from the Heart by Terri J. Haynes and Courting the Doctor by Ceceilia Dowdy. The former masterfully explores the complex race relations of a family where a slave and a slave owner are half brothers, and both hero and heroine are examples of blacks fighting for their freedom (or risking it) in different ways. Dowdy's contribution makes excellent use of the word count, portraying the soul searching of a man who has done wrong by the woman he loves with her sister, and him coming back to her.
The other two were a real study of contrasts in its use of the "teacher" theme, and both much weaker. The better of the two, Lynette Sowell's Schooling Mr. Mason, is suffers only for not being super memorable. But I liked that she does succeed in the end, and it's proof that competition and love sometimes do go hand-in-hand.
However, Lessons in Love by Lynn A. Coleman is a massive disappointment. Helen clearly has suffragette views at the beginning of the book, opposing the policy that a female teacher can't be married. She has some moments of connecting on an intellectual level, and an emotional one, with fellow teacher, Daniel Moore, who, while he isn't opposed to female teachers on principle, personally desires his own wife to be at home with the family, and the conflict over what she should do as he prepares to move on after attaining his PhD is the central conflict. And of course, she ends up giving up teaching, because "how different is teaching from marriage/motherhood?" (paraphrasing an actual line from the book).
I did enjoy this anthology for the most part, especially the visibility it provided for the two black authors, who I want to read more of.

A Teacher's Heart
by Lynn A. Coleman; Cecelia Dowdy; Terri J. Haynes; Lynette Sowell
Lessons of Love, Schooling Mr. Mason, Lessons of the Heart, and Courting the Doctor
I enjoyed parts of the novellas but found them as a collection to not be cohesive. Overall this collection was just ok.
Here are some quotes however I did find inspiring from this book:
"What if I'm not good enough?" She would barely look at the sign. "Oh, but what if you are exactly who they are looking for?"
"I believe that reading adventure stories, even those written for children, gives us a chance to relax and take our minds off of our present-day troubles."
" But there is nothing higher than being the helpmate to the man God puts in your life. Nor is there a higher responsibility than to raise our children."

A Teacher's Heart features four novellas set in the late 1850s with four main couples coming together in one way or other because of teaching whilst being tested on their faith. While all four stories have their merits, I personally loved Lynn Coleman's Lessons of Love because of Helen Jones' spunky character. Also, I found the lessons that she and her love interest, Daniel Moore had to learn more relatable in terms of whether or not to sacrifice one's career for marriage. Overall, A Teacher's Heart is a great read for someone looking for a meaningful escape route.

A Teacher’s Heart by Lynn A. Coleman, Cecelia Dowdy, Terri J. Haynes and Lynette Sowell is a collection of four short stories set in the late 1800’s describing the lives teachers were expected to live. The teachers in each of the stories must decide how to balance their career and love when it comes along. Can they give up their love of teaching to court and possibly marry and have children? Will their love of teaching overshadow all else in their lives?
I enjoyed each of the stories and it was easy to read one in a single setting. Each teacher had to balance living her faith as well as meeting the expectations of the community. As a retired teacher I found this book particularly interesting and it is amazing to read the expectations we once put on teachers. I also enjoyed the racial diversity in some of the stories; it is refreshing to read a story without every character being Caucasian. Each author brings their unique style to their story and all invite the reader in to get to know their characters. I give this book 5 of 5 stars. Very well done and will appeal to a wide audience of readers.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Novella collections like this. My bookshelf is absolutely overflowing with them. I had high hopes for this collection.
Elim and Adeline. My heart turned to complete mush reading their story. I was drawn in immediately to their strong characters. I have to admit going into Elim and Adeline’s story my mind and my heart battled when we first heard about August. I absolutely loved getting to know all the characters in this story and I love how real and powerful it was.
I am sorry to say I thought the other 3 left a lot to be desired. Especially Deborah and Timothy's story. It felt rushed and a bit forced and their story soured the others for me. There just was not enough time, for me, to deliver their story in a novella.I found it a bit hard to finish the book after that one.
Thank you for the E-Arc for an honest review.
