A nicely illustrated guidebook that matches up some key sites with scriptural passages. This would be good for someone planning a trip to the Holy Land or studying or teaching about the Bible and its settings.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a digital ARC for the purpose of an unbiased review.

Although I had hoped to use this on an actual trip, this seems to be a great guide for first-time students to the Holy Land. Many people visit without the context so this would be an excellent starter guide for Christians.

I was pleasantly surprised to see in this book's introduction that Knight developed Barbour's Layman's Bible Dictionary in the late 1990s. This set the bar high, and yet also made me comfortable that the author knows his stuff!

Having visited Israel in 2010, I was particularly eager to read and review the Holy Land Handbook. It's beautifully put together, and is best enjoyed either as a "real" book (paperback) or on a color device/eReader -- not on one of the black/white eReaders, as I don't believe the pictures would reproduce well. Go for the gusto to really enjoy the setting in the Holy Land!

Knight brings the history, geography, and geopolitical climates and setting of the Holy Land together admirably in this handbook. Whatever your background -- layperson, theologian, pastor, or even armchair traveler -- you will find something here. It's almost like a survey of biblical locations, as they're presented in bite-size chunks. I'll note that not every location has a picture, but same could go for a lot of encyclopedic entries (or Wikipedia, for that matter).

Anytime I get a hankering to revisit Israel in book form or need to remind myself of a location's setting or significance, I'd happily pick this one up. Excellent and informative read.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This is a great resource filled with information about the history and geography of the Holy Land, accompanied by beautiful pictures. It helps put into perspective the places I’ve read and heard about in my study of the Bible.

I was unable to read the galley. Adobe Digital noted that the file was corrupted. I can't make the review longer or rate the book because I WAS UNABLE TO READ THE GALLEY.

What a great guide for traveling to the Holy Land! The pictures and Biblical facts that are contained in this book are perfect for someone who is about to travel to Israel. I gave this book 4 stars only because I did not prefer the layout of this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I was drawn to this title from the bright images on the cover and my memories of a trip to the Holy Land of Israel in 2017.

A perfect hybrid of travel guidebook and bible dictionary joined with scripture cross references give this book a way to know where in the Holy Land the Lord God was talking about.
Each chapter sections several towns and areas of interest together. The pages feature colour photos and lots of smaller articles to break up the text to explain different attractions and history.

I enjoyed reading this sample and will recommend that my library purchase this item on publication.

This book was amazing. History and pictures were perfect from my bible study. Everything you need to know about our Holy Land is in it. An excellent companion for a quiet time and learning more about the glorious Jerusalem. And if you are planning a trip down to Jerusalem, this book will help your visit even more meaningful.

First sentence: This book is for anyone who has ever wanted to know more about the Holy Land—its geography, culture, history, and especially its holy sites. Travelers who want to get the most out of their visit to this unique land should find it a useful guide. But it is also meant for armchair travelers, Bible students, and the downright curious who wonder about the ancient land God promised to Abraham and his descendants.

What you see is what you get. Sometimes that is exactly what you WANT in a book. The book is informative, concise, conversational. I was worried that it would be dry and dull. That the narrative would be practically nonexistent and that it would be a sluggish read. I was wrong. It was actually quite pleasant. I'd definitely recommend it for those interested in learning more about the culture and geography especially. It was definitely well-organized.

Holy Land Handbook by George W. Knight is a wonderful resource. This book takes you on a tour of the Holy Land (Israel). It teaches you about the geography, culture, history and the Holy sites. 9 chapters cover Israel from South to north. This book includes a map section to help you see how the Land is all related to one another. It takes you through cities, towns, rivers, mountains and valleys where the events of scripture took place. In the back of the book there is an index of all the sites and places. I can not do this book justice with my review. It is a beautiful, educational book that has helped me to better understand the Bible and grow stronger in my Faith. This would make a wonderful gift. I would recommend every pastor and Sunday school teacher have one on their shelf as a tool to help assist in teaching the Bible.
