This is a book of devotions for kids that makes sense. It goes through the gospels, sharing particular verses. It then not only explains what the verses mean, but also connects them to the child's life in a way that makes sense, or asks questions and gives explanations that should help it make sense for the kid to understand. And then each day's devotion ends with a simple prayer.

I would recommend this for middle grade elementary through maybe junior high/middle school age. I think it would be a bit too juvenile for high schoolers. This could be used independently or as part of a small group study.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me a review copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Though this devotional is a little too young for the students I serve, I will certainly keep it in mind to recommend to families for their younger kids.

Words of Jesus
180 Devotions and Prayers for Kids
This deeply encouraging devotional is inspired by the words of Jesus in the New Testament. From His teaching and preaching to Jesus' miracles and parables, the kids in your life will read the life-changing, memorable words of Christ alongside a relevant devotion guaranteed to motivate and challenge them to grow in their faith. 180 devotions touch on important life themes including: "You are the light of the world. You cannot hide a city that is on a mountain" (Matthew 5:14) and "Pray for those who do bad things to you and who make it hard for you" (Matthew 5:44). Featuring kid-friendly scripture passages from the New Life Version of the Bible!
Impressions: These are short, 5- minute, devotionals that any kid can sit still to listen to. They are not quick in meaning, however. They were thoughtful and conversation provoking.
Liked: This is a Biblically-based devotional with verses proceeding each day reading.
Didn’t like: I thought they could be a tad longer.
Learned: Jesus has a lot of wisdom and it’s for everyone, young and old.
Quotes: Lots but you’ll have to pick this one up and read it to find your own!

Thanks to NetGalley , Barbour publishing, and the author for an advanced copy of WORDS OF JESUS.
This devotional book offers 180 little devotionals for kids. Each devotional starts with a biblical reference then a brief explanation of the verse, followed by a brief application. The devotional ends in a one-sentence prayer based on the scripture. The content was biblical, and the comments accurate and solid. However, this reviewer found issue with the format.

-The book is touted for kids, yet it is unappealing. *(lack of pictures and crammed layout may be due to Kindle format.).
-There is no age group: age group should be stated: primary-elementary, middle, or high school. The cover looks like it would be geared for primary children, yet examples are addressed to older children, who would be in competitive sports, own cell phones, etc.
-There is no table of contents nor index. The devotions are not categorized in any manner. It is helpful especially for kids to go to scripture that addresses their situation at the moment (I,e, befriending others, being strong, facing adversity, witnessing, etc). It would be effective if the devotions were sub categorized according to such a thematic system.
- While the content is sound, it is brief - too much so. The targeted age group can withstand something a bit longer than 3 minutes! There are few thought provoking questions or opportunities that would elicit personal responses. The one sentence prayer is formulaic and comes across as a “rote exercise” to conclude the devotional.

This devotional book could be viable with better organization and editing!

This new devotional by Emily Biggers is a great little pocket guide for parents that are looking for direction regards to having devotions with their children. I know when my children were young, I was starving for something I could read and relate to my children. It was hard to find something moderately interesting that wasn’t either too far over their heads, or written at such a lesser level that it washed over the point of having devotions. Emily’s book, “Words of Jesus,” gives you meat to work with when it comes to relating the devotion to your children, as well as help leading your children in prayer. You can use what she’s written completely alone or you can elaborate and just use the book as a guide. Either way, it works well. I appreciate how she has pack in so many truths in such small amounts of text. By the way, from my personal experience, you only get a small amount of attention with younger children so this book gets you right to the point; right to Jesus.

This is a sweet, basic daily devotional for kiddos that focuses on the words of Jesus. The writing is easy to understand, relatable, and entertaining. The devotional length is perfect for young attention spans. I know my son and I will enjoy it immensely!

First sentence: Of all the words ever spoken, the ones we should pay the most attention to are those spoken by our Savior, Jesus Christ! These words are often set apart with the color red on the pages of a Bible.

Words of Jesus is a children's devotional. There are 180 devotionals in all. If you've got school-age children, this might be just about right for reading before (or after) school. Each devotional begins with Scripture and ends with a prayer. The devotions are short--don't expect Spurgeon-sized sermonettes. But I think this devotional offers much food for thought. It didn't read as condescending to me, which is good.

The theme--if you haven't guessed it--are the words of Jesus. Scriptures are taken from Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Revelation.

I would recommend this one.
