It is exciting to find a thriller with a great plot, well developed characters and plenty of action. The Heartless has all of these.
Bruno Johnson, the central character, does battle in the dangerous streets of Los Angeles while struggling with personal conflicts. He tries to do the right things as he juggles the responsibilities of being the single parent of an intelligent rebellious teenage daughter and working long hours as a member of an elite law enforcement unit.
The action is intense throughout the book. It never slows.
Best of all, the plot is believable. It is obvious the David Putnam knows what he is writing about. He spent years working in areas of law enforcement. Don’t miss the author’s note at the end of the story.
I have read very many police-based novels over the years and The Heartless is among the best. This book can be enjoyed without having read the first six in the series, but I am anxious to start from the beginning. I have already purchased the first book.

Love Putnam's character Bruno Johnson. Bruno is a tough cop who always gets his man. Although this 7th Bruno started out kind of slow for me it picked up speed when a prison break got personal for Bruno. Love the drama and interactions between Bruno and his father and daughter Olivia. "A copy of this book was provided by Oceanview Publishing via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Bruno is trying, he really is! He’s taken a job as a court bailiff, so he can have regular hours and take care of his teenage daughter. But bad guys change his career path when a violent criminal involves his daughter in a plot to escape. No holds barred as Bruno uses any means possible to catch the bad guy. Non-stop action bound to offend the squeamish and politically correct.

“The Heartless” grabbed me from the start. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in less than a day. I have not read any of the other Bruno Johnson series and I didn’t feel lost at any point. I will seek out the other six books in the series because I enjoyed this one so much.. A well written, fast paced, action packed book.
