"The Self-Love Revolution" by Virgie Tovar is a groundbreaking and empowering manifesto that challenges societal norms and encourages readers to embrace their bodies and love themselves unconditionally. Tovar's bold and unapologetic approach to body positivity and self-acceptance makes this book a must-read for anyone struggling with body image issues or seeking to break free from the confines of diet culture.

Drawing on her own experiences as a fat woman of color and her expertise as a cultural critic and educator, Tovar explores the ways in which systemic oppression, patriarchy, and capitalism intersect to perpetuate harmful beauty standards and promote body shame. Through a combination of personal anecdotes, social commentary, and practical advice, she dismantles myths about weight, health, and beauty, and offers readers tools for cultivating self-love and reclaiming their power.

One of the strengths of "The Self-Love Revolution" is Tovar's emphasis on intersectionality and inclusivity, as she recognizes the importance of centering the experiences of marginalized communities in conversations about body positivity and liberation. By amplifying diverse voices and experiences, Tovar creates a space where readers of all backgrounds can see themselves reflected and validated.

Tovar's writing is witty, engaging, and relatable, with a conversational tone that makes complex concepts accessible to a wide audience. She challenges readers to question their own internalized biases and societal conditioning, while offering practical strategies for building resilience, setting boundaries, and practicing radical self-love in a world that often seeks to tear us down.

"The Self-Love Revolution" is not just a book—it's a call to action, a rallying cry for a more inclusive and compassionate world. Tovar's message of body liberation and self-acceptance has the power to transform lives and ignite a movement for social change. Whether you're struggling with body image issues or passionate about social justice, this book is sure to inspire and empower you to join the revolution and embrace the beauty of your own unique self.

This book is amazing!!! It is geared toward young adults and I wish I had read it when I was a teen. Even reading it at 30, it was exactly what I needed to hear in more ways than one.

I was interested in this title because I'm familiar with the author. This is directed at a younger audience. I think high school/college age range would be a good fit. I think every young woman can benefit from learning to accept themselves as they are rather than trying to fit some "ideal" we're constantly exposed to in the media.

Thank you to New Harbinger and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Enjoyable read. Good for beginners of self discovery and young people. A lot of anecdotes, too many in my opinion. Overall enjoyable but not for me now. I would've benefited from this probably when I was in high school 10 years ago. I do recommend for those who are having issues with self love and feeling like they are not worth much. Very uplifting and enlightening for the young.

Virgie Tovar is a pioneer of the HAES and body positivity movements. I have been a fan of her work for almost a decade and her latest work did not disappoint. Tovar writes about her own experiences as a young, fat woman of color to create a blueprint for other girls on how to not only love themselves but build a movement of body positivity and acceptance in their communities. A self-love revolution, indeed.

This is a book I wish I would have had when I was a teenager! As a female of mixed race, there were so many elements of this book that I could truly relate to. The author does a great job of sharing both, her perspectives on many of the issues discussed throughout the book and also advice on how to deal with situations that may come up in the reader's own life.

The one element that the author discusses above all is the issue of fatphobia. This issue is brought up in pretty much every chapter. While I do think it's an important issue to be discussed, some of the things she brought up were repetitive. I wish she would have spent a little more time discussing issues of racism, gender inequality, and ableism. These issues were brought up in the book, but the issue of fatphobia overshadowed some of the other messages that came up in the book. I also thought the book could have benefited from gathering perspectives of other women. When I first saw the cover of the book, my expectation was that I would get to read about multiple women who have faced adversity while being different in America. I think this would have been a good way to really drive the message home and discuss some of the issues I mentioned a little bit more in depth.

Overall, I think this is an important book for teenagers to get their hands on, no matter what their race. It's so important for us to learn to celebrate what makes us different and unique and to not focus on our perceived flaws and to, instead, embrace them.

While I am not the target audience, I was looking forward to reading this because someone who is part of that audience is near and dear to my heart. I will be looking into procuring a copy for her asap!

The Self- Love Revolution is a self-help book that promotes body positivity in young women. I'm not exactly young (38!) but still found this book inspiring and interesting. I hadn't heard of this author before but now know she is well known in USA as a leading expert on weight based discrimination. I especially loved the paragraph "Hating ourselves takes up a lot of energy and time. Imagine all the stuff you'd get done if you didn't feel self-conscious or worried about what other people think...." Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital copy of this book.

I thought this book was great! I am now slightly out of its age range, being a 22-year-old, but I loved the journaling prompts throughout and the way that the material could connect to anyone's life.

I can definitely see this being really helpful for a teenage girl of color trying to find their spot in the world. Tovar isn't preachy but honest and affirming, and I think this voice is really needed.

I received a galley copy of The Self-Love Revolution. It is an important book for young women (and young men) to read. Topics range from fat phobia, racism, eating disorders and diet culture, marketing toward women in mass media, how to handle trolls on social media, and more. It is a book that will teach young people how to better navigate their normal body issues in the world we live in that is so focused on superficial, quick impressions and instant feedback. I encourage parents to gift this book to their teens to let them know that what they feel is normal.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This is a fabulous book for any detail of any age (although the cover seems to imply its for teens). It's never too late and your never too old to discover self love or love yourself entirely inside and out.
This book has some fantastic information within it and I loved the journal prompts which really made me sit and think and approach things in different ways.
I urge all women especially with low self esteem, to read this book!

When I first saw this book I noticed it was a self love book pointed towards teenagers. I struggle with self image and self love so I figured it wouldn’t hurt. And wow I am so glad I picked it up. It has such a good message for any age and everyone should read it. I found myself not able to put it down and feeling inspired to go against any negative speak and embrace the love of myself. This is a must read!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I love this book so much, as a woman of color and being overweight . The author's message was something refreshing . The journal prompts were great . The author teaches us to love our selves no matter what the beauty strands tells us.
