I absolutely loved this story. What a unique idea. I love the backstory of her going to a home shopping channel and becoming the most popular host! The different characters were amazing- I loved Dana’s. best friend and all the assistants. It was a fun take on the behind the scenes at HSN. |
I initially thought Love Sold Separately was going to be a light romance, but instead it was a very fun mystery! The narration was excellent and I enjoyed the story quite a lot! Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. |
This was a fun, quick, easy read that completely took my mind off of the world around me. I enjoyed the plot but I felt like the characters chemistry lacked a little. |
Love Sold Separately by Ellen Meister is an odd book. While I liked the majourity of the characters, I could not stand the main character. She was just awful. I thought the mystery was interesting, but it ended up being predicable. I thought the pacing of the book was good though. Started off quick and kept up throughout. I also found the cover a VERY odd choice for this book. The cover looks like a cute romantic comedy. Nothing about it screams mystery. I received an eARC from Harlequin and MIRA through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own. |

This one really didn't work for me. The main character is impossible to root for...she's just the worst! The plot was entertaining enough for a while but seemed to lose its way halfway through, and it lost me right along with it. I'm not sure I'll be reading any more from this author. |
Meh. I really didn’t like the main character, and it’s hard for me to like the book if I don’t like the main character. I’d pass on this one if I were you. |
This book was so-so for me. I had a really hard time liking the main character because she is so selfish and that makes it hard to actually care if she fails or succeeds at what she’s trying to do. The mystery part of the novel was well written and engaging but I think it could’ve used a bit more romance. |
Love Sold Separately by Ellen Meister Synopsis: On the day Dana Barry loses her retail job, her manager and best friend, lands her an audition for a new host at the Shopping Channel. She knows she would be perfect for this job; she gives her everything to the audition and gets the job. The star host, Kitty is found shot to death in her office. As Dana and a co-worker were up on the roof, they were the first ones to arrive at the scene. Her co-worker quickly becomes a suspect because of his criminal record however, she knows he’s innocent. As he’s a single father, to save his name she starts investigating the murder. Detective Ari Marks, does everything by the book, he’s harsh, demanding, and most importantly, he’s handsome. Review: Looking at the cover, you would assume this is a romance book however, it’s more of a murder mystery with a hint of romance. The story was written well, the twists were great, and it was paced perfectly. I wasn’t a huge fan of Dana, she wasn’t the strongest character however, I did enjoy the remaining characters. The romance aspect was a fun twist! I couldn’t put this book down it was very entertaining! Thank you Netgallery and Harlequin publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review, my apologies for the delay. |
A little mystery, a little romance, and pretty fun, too! I've never read a book based in the world of home shopping networks, so the premise was extremely enjoyable, though Dana's character was a little annoying to me. The mystery was an added bonus, though that was a little predictable as well - all in all, a solidly fun quick read. |
This was a fun mash-up of the cozy mystery and romance genres. My only complaint is that from the cover and blurb, it wasn't very apparent that this was a mystery. I think from a marketing level, it might have been better to clarify that. |

A light-hearted read that kept me engaged from the very first page, this was a welcome companion to the COVID-19 blahs. |
I give this book 1 star but I swear, I would give it less if I could. This book is a completely different story from what you would expect from the cover. I expected a sweet romance with suspenseful undertones. I don’t just look at covers to make my decisions, but the blurb and labels sounded intriguing too. The labels on this story are Mystery & Thrillers with Romance secondary. That would make it a romantic suspense novel, which is right up my alley. The blurb indicates a mystery and maybe there was, but I didn't get far enough to find out. I did my best to make twenty percent, then skimmed a bit, looking for something to make me want to know more. I didn't find any character development, what story I read was very unrealistic. I won’t even go into all the drug use this story had. Not sure how many books Meister has written but this one was a hard miss for me. I ended up reading as much as I could stand of this book, and I'll admit that a good portion was skimmed through, so I may not be the best judge for this one. All I know is what I found isn't something I'd recommend. |
Such a cute premise, but I absolutely could not connect with these characters. Dana, the main character, was not written with an ounce of likability, which I tend to look for in my YA characters. The love interest portion was also lacking due to Dana's personality. I am proud of myself for sticking it through for this one, because it honestly would have been a DNF if I had received a copy from the library. |
Dana lands her dream job as a host of The Shopping Channel. Everything seems to be going perfectly until the main host is found dead. Dana takes it upon herself to try to find out who the killer is. |
A fun and witty romance! Easy read to take your mind off of the rest of real life, in case you need that these days. |
Dana Barry's life is a mess, until she hears The Shopping Channel is auditioning new hosts. She dives right in and is stunned when she lands the job. Her keen eye for detail, knack for knowing what makes people tick and sheer bravado make her perfect for the role. |
This novel is sort of a combo chick lit/mystery - main character Dana is a struggling actor who gets a job as a host on a shopping channel - but finds the star of the channel dead in her dressing room. In between job, family, and romantic travails, she basically attempts to solve the murder on her own. This was a quick read, but a little thin on substance - definitely more tell than show, kinda two dimensional characters with a very annoying main character, and everything wrapped up a little too easily in the end. It was still reasonably entertaining though. 2.5 stars. |
While I enjoyed the premise of this book, the overall arch of the main character fell a little flat for me. There was a lot of drama and excitement surrounding her rise to fame at the same time a murderer was running around, but I found myself not that interested in the who-dun-it part of the story. |
💕|#partner|Thank you to @_mira_books_ @harlequinbooks @netgalley & @ellenmeister for the free book! This book is available now. . . 🌟BOOK REVIEW🌟 . . ▪️MY THOUGHTS ✔️This book was fun...even though there was a murder! I really enjoyed Dana’s character. I thought she was funny & sharp. I loved the scenes when she was actually doing her job on the shopping channel! IRL as a buyer - I could really relate to the importance of sales and marketing your brand. I thought the storyline flowed nicely and I was invested in the characters. I recommend this book for someone who likes cute rom-coms with an little bit of murder and mystery! |
A fun contemporary drama of an actress, making her way as a fantastic shopping network host, in the midst of a murder mystery. Fast moving and engaging, with great characters and side stories. Thank you NetGalley, author and publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own. |
