A thriller this is not. It has to be the most clichéd book I have every read.
Domestic abuse, post natal depression, abortion, infidelity, suicide, murder, the list goes on.
The story is told from two points of view, and this is getting tiring, everyone is doing it and most times it drags out a book as the story repeats.
Poppy is weak willed and spineless and I have no sympathy whatsoever with her. Betty her mother in law isn't much better. Her story of going around to her friend's house every day to help just doesn't ring true. She didn't live next door. She would never have had the energy, especially as she had a husband who did nothing about the house.
A really laborious and dull read. Not an author I will be reading again.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for my ARC in return for an honest review.

Poppy, who runs and "Extra agency" and Stuart, a dentist have been married for 20 years and have 2 daughters. The couple are becoming more and more distant as both their careers and the stress of raising a family mean they are spending less and less time together.

Poppy attends an event for extras where she meets up with her first love Matthew, from Drama school. As the story progresses, Poppy has a one night stand with Matthew which she regrets immediately. Matthew then through various nefarious ways and lies makes Poppy's life a misery. The story switches between this storyline and a court case for a murder which come together at the end.

Another compelling character and storyline running through this book revolves around Stuart's mother Betty who is writing a letter to Poppy giving her story from teenage to present day relating her troubled life with her late husband Jake and a troubling guilty secret she has been keeping.

There are many twists and turns in this book and several reveals that took me entirely by surprise and that is no easy fete. Jane Corry has done it again. I highly recommend this book and this author as she never fails to deliver.

Thanks to Netgalley and Publisher Penguin for allowing me an ARC copy of this book for a fair and honest review.

I was surprised by this novel. It grabbed me from page one, and I honestly thought this was going to be a novel that demanded I finish it within a sitting or two. Unfortunately, for me, it lost steam halfway through, and it took everything for me just to finish it. Didn't connect to the characters and found both the main characters rather bland. Because of that, I couldn't fully invest in the plot that at times felt like walking through molasses.

This is told from multiple points of view and it works really well. The parallels of the characters' lives play out the theme of making a mistake, and spending a lifetime atoning for it. Wasn't quite a thrillery/gripping as I'd hoped for but an enjoyable read.

Enjoyable read. How one person's mistake can affect the whole family and have a massive impact for Poppy Page. How wisdom from an older generation and ultimately 'love' will set things back onto an even footing.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning. It starts at a tube station and then takes you back to 6 weeks earlier. It explores the relationships of Poppy Page and her family. Poppy meets an old love that she hasn't seen for many years. Poppy has been married to Stuart, a dentist, they have two daughters and Poppy's mother in law Betty lives with them. Poppy runs a successful acting agency for extras and it is at a business Christmas party that she sees Matthew again, her old flame, who she was madly in love with but he left her for another woman. The story unfolds being told by Poppy and by Betty in turns. I strongly recommend this book, a great read.

Another Jane Corry novel which I loved reading. A great story line told by Poppy and her Mother In law. Showing how many people make mistakes in their lives, this story keeps you hooked, and wanting to read more. One of those books that are hard to put down. After reading two Jane Corry novels back to back, would highly recommend this author. Both really good reads.

This is my first Jane Corry novel but I hope to read more.
The story is told from two perspectives Poppy the owner of an extras agency and her mother in law Betty, with the focus being a murder.
Although the tales that Betty and Poppy tell are from different eras they nothing focus on lies and choices that have long lasting implications. There are numerous twists and turns which lure the reader in and keep you guessing

As soon as I can I order Jane Corry’s novels as, so far, they have been exceptional reads. This one is no different and I was engrossed from start to finish.

Poppy is married to Stuart. They live with their two children, Melissa (17), Daisy (14) and Stuart’s mother, Betty. Poppy is running a successful theatrical agency while Stuart has a dental surgery so, living in their £1million house they are more than comfortable financially. Betty takes on many of the household tasks to allow both of them to pursue their careers.

The story is told from two perspectives: Betty’s life with Jock, Stuart’s father, and Poppy in her pursuance of happiness when she meets a previous lover who left her for her best friend at the time.

The mistake Poppy makes leads to a catalogue of disasters culminating in a trial for murder which is part of the underlying plot.

Full of twists and turns with characters well-rounded and believable along with an underlying family situation which many people can relate to I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Penguin Books UK and Jane Corry for my ARC in return for an honest review.

Another brilliant read from this author. Highly recommended.

Discussing the issues of failability, nearly every character in this story makes a mistake or poor choices. I thought the premise of the extras agency could have been played out to have some funnier characters but overall the story was an interesting consideration into how a moment can impact a whole course of events. I actually didn’t like the Vicar character so didn’t see the attraction as to why she would risk everything but maybe that was the point.

Great psychological thriller that keeps you hooked.
The different perspectives and how they converge make it stand out and I enjoyed reading about the relationships.
The secrets people keep and how you can never really know a person is key.

Great writing that had me gripped from the very start. Cleverly written from the points of view of Poppy and Betty her mother-in-law, the novel intertwines the past with the present. Gritty dark and twisted the story line makes for a good read. My thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

An engaging thriller, I enjoyed the differing viewpoints and how this shifted the story between the past and the present. It was not an overly complex story but the way it was written made it engaging and dramatic.

Thanks for letting me review this book.

I really enjoyed this book that had me gripped from start to finish. Such clever writing to have us following two stories at one time. I loved both the main characters. Bettys early life story had me in tears but I loved her fighting and I was so hoping for a Happy Ending for her! Poppy although on the surface a strong successful woman she showed even women like her can be gullable and vunerable. Great writing and waht a twist at the end. Loved it!!

Jane Corry has done it again...a great read that's hard to put down. It grips you from the start and makes you think about the consequences of the actions we take. A family, mother, father, children and mother-in-law all have to pay for their mother's mistake. I am not going to summarize the characters as I do not want to spoil this well written novel. I can say that the chapters are mainly from the view points of Poppy and Betty, Poppy's mother-in-law who has her own secrets from her past. It entwines the past with the present brilliantly.
It is clever, gritty, dark in places and twisted. It is beautifully executed and cleverly draws you in.

So, so excited to read the new Jane Corry. Great opening which set the scene for a whodunnit. But then.....it didn’t really do what I I thought it would. There were none of the big breath and gasp moments I’d been counting on, definitely more of a slow country walk compared to an exhilarating mountain run. Sorry Jane, I’ve loved other books of yours, but found this a little lack lustre.

Absolutely brilliant.
This plot winds you in with twists on every page. A mistake made is paid for and we know it’s going to get worse . The family are involved in ways that are emotional and dark. A very clever piece of writing that will have you spinning with the pace and wanting to find the answer.

This had me hooked from the beginning I couldn't put it down!

The story is told in three parts Poppy and her family, that of her mother in law Betty and final part sees someone in the dock at the Old Bailey accused of murder.

Nobody is perfect we all make mistakes, the choices and decisions that we make can last a lifetime! and as the story unravels you get to see the similarities between the two main characters (Poppy and Betty) plights.

Each character had their own unique personality that was easy to relate to.

The ending was not at all what I was expecting, very well written with in-depth descriptions throughout a gripping read!
