First Book I've read by this author and I absolutly loved it never wanted to put it down. Avery and Brand had a good chemistry. Actually if I'm being honest Avery found her way into Merricks hearts even the grumpiest of the bunch Ham. This book held me from start to finish I was eating out of this authors hand the whole time, begging to know what happend next. I lost a lot of sleep reading this book cuz I didn't want to put it down for a second. I Hope thier is another book!!

I received an ARC from NetGally and these opinions are my own.

The book opens with a scene that sets the tone for the story of a hard-working family and of stubborn people. You think it is only going to be Brand instead you find that others in the Merrick family are just as stubborn. This is proofed when his grandmother has requested a private physical therapist to arrive in order to care for his injured leg which of course he did not take care of. He says he is fine but throughout the day he takes breaks when he can away from his brothers especially in order to rest his injured knee, but it really does not help much he is still a grouch.
When told about the plan he is upset but the grandmother does not care what he thinks. When Avery first arrives from Michigan she is taken back by the beauty of the place and then by the sheer stink when Brand comes in from working all day and is taken back when he sees her for, they all were expecting a male therapist. What Avery does though is gets right in and works with the guys, mucking the stalls and other chores that need to be done this shows Brand she is willing to work and leads him to open up about working with her.
What I liked was that having two knee surgeries myself some of the exercises were ones that were taught to me. This story starts off slow but builds up. The characters you get to know, Billy the cook, Liz the sister her story really adds to this book, as well as the foreman Chet who did three tours in Afghanistan. Which character has a purpose and the story flows along.
When the author takes you through the person whom she was getting away from she does it in a way that you are not even expecting that person until it is too late. Which only added to the story. Overall a very good book and very much worth the read.

My Kind of Cowboy has a great premise - after an injury from falling off a horse, Brand is struggling to recover while working on the family ranch. He can’t take any time off for physical therapy so his grandmother brings a physical therapist to them - to live on the ranch for 6 weeks. Avery is a city girl who hasn’t even spent time on a farm so it’s a whole new world to her. Warning: spoilers ahead so stop here if you don’t want to see them.

I was really into that setup - I love forced proximity! I also loved the descriptions of Wyoming and felt I was right there with them. Not to mention all the amazing food descriptions of Billy’s cooking and the wonderful family dynamics between the Merricks.

However ultimately this book didn’t work well for me. There were a lot of side stories and I felt like the actual romance was really underdeveloped. I also felt like there were some plot lines that were opened for no reason. Why did this book start with a description of a fire when Brand was a boy? I assumed this would come back around in the current story but it didn’t.

I also found it pretty unrealistic that Avery was such an amazing ray of sunshine that everyone she came in contact with almost immediately dropped all barriers they had built up for years and told her their secrets.

And then there’s the suspense thread - Avery receiving threatening texts. I felt like the pacing of this storyline was very weird. It would be completely ignored for big chunks of the book and it just felt very clunky and forced. So we finally get to the climax and Avery shoots Renee with what she thinks is a sedative but is actually a lethal dose of insulin. Does Renee die? I reread the ending 3 times to see if I missed it but I only see that they may be able to save her.

THEN in the last 5% of the book we also have Avery’s dad suddenly get help from therapy and come to fix his relationship with her. And Brand proposes. And then the epilogue wedding.

Thank you to Forever for the free book.

What happens when a cute cowboy meets his physical therapist? This novel!

If you are a fan of reading Western, cowboy, lighter romances, this one is a great option for your Monthly TBR!

I really enjoyed how the author brought these two together. It was just the right amount of angst to get their relationship going, and was completely pulled together by the family dynamics and the protection he had over her. Each of them has a traumatic past which slowly brings them into a brighter future, despite the few setbacks they experience throughout the book.

For a cowboy romance, this one hit the spot!

I gave this one a 4 out of 5 stars! This is the first I've read from this author, and I can definitely see myself coming back to her.

I really enjoyed this one, it's a great contemporary western but what else do you expect from R.C. Ryan, she's fantastic at what she does. I love the new family in this series, they each have their hangups but they love each other completely and when Avery Grant walks into their lives they embrace as one of them, well after she proves herself to be worthy of it and vise versa.

My thoughts ( this review is for My Kind Of Cowboy , since I already read Rebel Cowboy last year )

Would I recommend it?Yes

Would I read more of this series? Yes

Would I read more of this author? Yes

This is the first time I've read this author and she's off to a get start with me, one of the things I loved about this book was the close Brand was to his family and the ones that worked for him so much so that they was family themselves, and the love he and his brothers had for land , history and town . Another thing I loved was how even through it was a slow burning romance it worked for the story and took non thing away from it, in fact it helped bring the story to life and which give each character time to shine and that you got to know them better. As for the main characters themselves I loved them , loved how hard working Brand was and how strong and fearless Avery was and how they seemed to be made for them each other. Other thing that made this story so good was the hint of suspense that mixed in really well the story. It also didn't take anything from the story but helped it as well so much so that where the suspense and the romance started and ending it just seemed to blend together and pulled the story together. With that said I want to say thank you to Forever as well NetGalley for letting me read and review it and for sending me a physical copy of it.

I really enjoy this author’s cowboy books, as I’ve read her previous series as well! I like the mix of romance and suspense! Brand, cowboy hero, is grumpy, hard working, and doesn’t think he need physical therapy for the leg he injured. Enter Avery our city girl physical therapist! The family believes the grandmother has a man coming! It’s was quite funny to see everyone’s reaction when a woman shows up! (Never judge by a name) At first Brand thinks he is going to show Avery the rancher life & she will go back to the city. That’s not how it goes! Avery proves to be a strong & fast learner! These two have so much chemistry and steam between them I could feel it off the pages!! I loved this story. The brothers were also fantastic! I look forward to their stories! All in all a great romantic suspense!

Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆
M/F Romance

Avery is a physical therapist who needs a change. She loves what she does. Despite her dad's disapproval, Avery knows that what she does makes a difference. When she's called to a ranch out in Montana, she isn't sure what to expect.

Brand is a cowboy, through and through. With a traumatic youth, he and his family have made the best of it and run a very successful ranch. After a fall, Brand has developed a limp and rather than see him suffer with his pain, his grandma has hired a therapist to come to the ranch to help him alleviate his pain.

When Avery arrives, she sees a loving family who only want what's best for each other. It's somewhat foreign to her, as she's an only child and her dad isn't around much. But once she sees the challenge of getting Brand to want to do the exercises, she falls right into her job.

With the beauty of the land and people, Avery falls in love with her surroundings. Brand starts to wonder if Avery might be able to help him after all. With an easy truce starting between them, Avery also wins over his family, which is no small thing.

These two have a sweet romance that just builds with the kindness she shows his family. When an unexpected complication arises, Avery will have to decide whether or not she truly trusts Brand and his family.

I really enjoyed this story and despite the twist not being surprising, it was still a great story.

My Kind of Cowboy is the first book in R.C Ryan’s Wranglers of Wyoming, and starts out with an insight into a family tragedy from the past, and moves forward to present day and the drama that unfolds after a broody cowboy takes a tumble form his steed. Needing rest and regular physiotherapy to heal, Avery Grant is the woman tasked with bringing this stubborn cowboy back to full mobility. But dealing with his stoic nature and commanding presence, is definitely more than Avery bargained for, and the events that follow are filled with angst, drama and undeniable attraction. My Kind of Cowboy is a wonderful small-town romance, with strong and determined characters and a solid storyline that keeps the reader intrigued till the end. I’m eager to see which Merrick is next in line to find drama and romance.

Terrific start to the new series. It opens with an introduction to the Merrick family and a tragic event that affects them all. A house fire sweeps through the ranch house that Bo, his wife Leigh, and their three sons had just moved into. The oldest son, Brand, succeeded in getting his two little brothers out of the house, then woke his parents. Unfortunately, his mother didn't make it. Bo and his boys moved back into the family home with his father, mother, sister, and grandfather, making four generations living together.

Fast forward twenty years. The Merrick boys, Brand, Casey, and Jonah, have all grown up. All three work the ranch with the family, though Casey and Jonah also have other professions. Brand recently was injured in a fall and still suffers the aftereffects. As stubborn as the other men in his family, he ended his physical therapy early, unconvinced of its effectiveness, and determined to return to work. His grandmother, Meg, takes matters into her own hands and hires a physical therapist to stay at the ranch for six weeks, overriding Brand's protests that he doesn't have time.

Avery is a city girl from Michigan who took the job in Wyoming with an agenda of her own. She looks forward to the different surroundings, but she also wants to escape from an uncomfortable situation at home. She has a stalker who has left several threats, but the local authorities don't take it seriously.

I loved the first meeting between the Merricks and Avery. Brand was blindsided that morning by his grandmother's announcement and isn't at all happy with the thought of someone interfering with his day. Family patriarch, Ham, is also against it, with the view that pain is something ranchers learn to live with. They are all shocked to discover that, rather than the muscular man they expected, the therapist is a slim, attractive woman. Avery is a bit taken aback by the hostility from her patient and his great-grandfather but is determined to change their minds and heal her patient.

I loved the development of the relationship between Brand and Avery. Brand thinks that it won't be hard to send this city girl running. All he has to do is drag her into ranch life and watch her flounder. Avery is tenacious and sees his challenge and raises the stakes. I loved watching her dig right in and embrace everything thrown at her. It doesn't take long for Brand to be impressed and decide to give her a chance. With the time they spend together, Avery sees past the grumpy Brand to the man who loves his family and his land. It was great to see Brand go from trying to chase Avery away to wishing he could find a way to make her stay.

The attraction that was there from the moment Brand and Avery met continued to build. They tried to resist at first. Brand knew she would leave after six weeks, and Avery wanted to keep things professional. However, the connection was too strong to resist. There were some sweet scenes as Brand showed Avery around the land that he loved. There were some funny times, such as their trip to town, where Avery gets a taste of small-town life. Then there were the times that showed the depth of the feelings that were growing between them. I loved seeing Brand share his memories of the night of the fire with Avery, something he hasn't even done with his family. When Avery shared her trouble with Brand, it roused his protectiveness, further cementing his feelings for her. With Avery's departure drawing closer, both ached to be together, but neither was ready to confess their feelings. The end was emotional as each longed for the other to say something that would keep them together before it was too late. Brand's big moment was great, and I loved how he was oblivious to the people around them.

Part of the book also dealt with the reason Avery left Michigan. She thought she left the threats behind her, only to begin receiving creepy and threatening texts after she arrived in Wyoming. Though Avery tried to ignore them, remembering her treatment by the authorities in Michigan, the threats started to weigh on her. I loved Brand's reaction when she told him, with that cowboy code of protectiveness kicking in. I especially liked his insistence on going to the local police chief. The difference in attitude was night and day, which gave Avery a little bit of peace of mind. An unexpected visitor brought along a twist to the situation. There were some very intense moments as Avery found herself in a life-or-death situation. I loved her determination to survive and her ability to think on her feet. The final confrontation was a nail-biter and kept me glued to pages until it was over.

A big part of the book was the Merrick family's relationships. The love and respect that they had for each other were evident, and I enjoyed getting to know each one. Hammond, the family patriarch, was quite a character. Gruff and obstinate, his opinions were pretty well set in stone. I loved his pride in his family and their land, and how his stories wove a spell around Avery. I also like watching her earn his respect and admiration. Another family member I loved was Aunt Liz. She's a talented photographer, and though she seems cold and aloof at first, that soon changes. There is a fantastic scene between Liz and Avery that changes both their lives. I was also intrigued by Chet, who obviously has a thing for Liz, though she doesn't see it. I hope to see more of them in future books. However, my favorite family members were Casey and Jonah. They are the typical younger brothers who know just what buttons to push when it comes to Brand. They caught on quickly to the attraction building between Brand and Avery and took multiple opportunities to tease and interfere. It was fun to watch the actions and reactions among them. I can't wait to read their stories.

We all have our ‘go-to’ authors and when I’m in the mood to go back to my country roots, spend some time in the beauty of the wide-open spaces of the Western states then I’ll look to R.C. Ryan (or her alter-ego) for my “cowboy” fix. I love getting in on the start of a new series, and My Kind of Cowboy introduces us to the multi-generational Merrick family and their ranch in the Wranglers of Wyoming series. The type of family that built the Mid-west and West ranching communities. It is that sense of generations that begins this series with a look to the past and how it has shaped the Merrick family in so many vital ways.

Worldbuilding is important in any first story of a series, and we get a very strong, emotional feel for the Merricks as we learn how they became a multi-generation family working one ranch. It’s a strong look at how Brand became the man he is today, stubborn, proud, and always so determined to do things his way or no way. I fell in love with Brand rather quickly, in spite of his stubborn nature… and could that man ever be bullheaded. Avery is a delight and the perfect match for Brand. Equally stubborn in her own ways, she’s a city girl who has serious trouble following her no matter how far away she tries to run from it. Watching these two stubborn, strong people banter, challenge, reassess each other, and slowly let the attraction between them go somewhere was an emotional, engaging journey.

You’ll find fun family interactions, more than a few laughs, some serious sizzle, secondary characters who cry out for their own stories to be told, danger, and a love worth fighting for. I had a blast with My Kind of Cowboy, and I’m already anticipating the next chapter of the Merrick family in the next book.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

I feel like lately every time I get my hands on a book by this author it feels like coming home. She has a way of making you either feel like you are right there or that you are catching up with friends and it was very much that case in this book. I also had a hard time putting this book down. I wanted more so much more. I loved Liz and the brothers and hope their stories are coming soon. I also like how this author tries and keeps the books as close to a clean read. I really liked Avery to me she came off as this person while she faced a lot it didn't break who she was and she still continued on with life and what it handed her. Brand was a hard nut to crack, but he was still very likable and very much a trustworthy older son who just needed a little push. I seriously can't wait for more from these fun character and to see what will happen next.

My Kind of Cowboy is the first book in The Wrangler's of Wyoming series. I love this authors books so I wasn't surprised that this was another amazing read. As usual there are endearing characters in this family that draw you in and make you feel at home. Add in the vivid storytelling and it makes you feel like you are a part of the story. This story s another amazing read with wonderful characters. I can't wait to read the next book.

Brand Merrick loves being on his family ranch but suffers an injury which requires therapy. Avery Grant is the therapist from the big city who arrives to help. They have clashing personalities when they first meet. Avery has come to Wyoming to escape mysterious threats so she won’t let Brand send her away. When the threats arise in Wyoming as well, Brand decides he needs to protect and help Avery. The romance is well done and their is a mystery of who is threatening Avery. The love story is engaging and the characters are well written. The suspense adds to the story and all in all it was an entertaining book.

I really liked this one! Broody cowboy needs help from the lovely physical therapist but doesn't want it. The family dynamic was my favorite part and I look forward to reading more. Well written, not clean but not super detailed love scenes.

I love a good cowboy romance and My Kind of Cowboy was no exception. There is a large family working a ranch at the base of the Tetons. That family is full of strong, sexy, stubborn cowboys. When Avery, Physical Therapist, is brought in to try to help Brand finish recovering after a riding accident,
that stubbornness comes out in spades. As she goes about winning him over to gain his cooperation in his therapy, can she help it if she's really warming up to him?
Ms. Ryan did a great job with the characterization of the characters and adding a little danger and mystery to the mix. I'd actually figured out "who dunnit", but that was okay.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Avery is trying to escape her past and Brand is trying to escape his therapy. The stubborn cowboy gets more than he bargained for when his determined PT agrees to stay for a 6 week stint on his ranch while he does what he can to not fall again, this time for her. Brand's incredible family is at the heart of this story and the suspense plot allows Avery to feel the sense of security she's been searching for, while in the arms of her protective rancher. Check out the recipe for Billy's Strawberry Shortcake, too. Ryan's kick off to her Wranglers of Wyoming series is a sweet, slow burn confection worth savoring

Even the toughest, most stubborn cowboys need help sometimes which is clear in My Kind of Cowboy by R. C. Ryan. Brand Merrick was not my kind of cowboy at the beginning but hey, even hardheaded cowboys can learn a thing to two. In Brand’s case it is taking counsel from others and discovering that he is indeed the challenge. As the story progressed with Brand growing as a character, he grew in my favor too especially as stubborn turn to protection..

Avery Grant is my favorite of the book. Strong, confident and determined, she is the exact physical therapist that Brand needs. This is such a fun romance with these two characters who butt heads more than once but also have an off the charts attraction.

The Merrick family is a huge part of the story too. There are plenty of them, with opinions, ideas and even showing up at unwanted times. They’re family so you’ve got to love them, the whole gang of them. This is a new author for me to read. Now I would like to read more of the Merrick family.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
