Tim Cook is a master storyteller. This is important, as each of his past books about Canadian military history engage the readers with human tales. Not just names, dates and places.
He reminds of my favorite Social Studies teacher, who made history relevant by telling the story behind an event.
In The Fight For History, Cook deftly explains the dearth of education and reverence for Canada's World War II experience.
Each chapter notes how military heritage for decades took a back seat to other "pressing issues" of the day. But he also chronicles the recent shift in the other direction, where Canada';s Second World War history is now celebrated regularly.
This is an excellent piece of education and crucial to any library.
