A most intriguing excerpt, Sarah J. Maas has created the most exciting worlds and adventures in the Throne of Glass and A court of Thorns and Roses series, I can't wait to see where she goes with the next series.

This short excerpt was really intriguing! I like the world Maas created and I'm excited to read the full novel.

Loved this book! SJM never disappoints. The first half of the book was a little slower than her other reads. However, I devoured about 400 pages of this 800 page monster in one sitting. I can't wait to for the next book in The Crescent City series to come out!

This was a interesting first look. I'm not sure if I will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed ACOTR but I'm gonna have to check this book out.

Unfortunately I found this except boring, and not up to the usual Maas standards. The feel of the novel was off, and maybe that's because I'm used to Maas writing with a more historical fantasy vibe than the urban fantasy that this is.

This book is simply epic. I loved this sample so much that I ended up buying the book right away. I've read every book by this author, and this book is as wonderful. She once more created an amazing world with characters exactly how I like them, witty, badass, and loveable. Her writing is as usual fantastic, you get pulled in the story with each word.
I'm thankful for this sampler, it's big enough that it gives you a good idea of what to expect next.

Amazing book, in this series Sarah J. Mass won't dissapointed.
It started a little bit rough, and take me by surprised, and since the beggining my heart broke and I beggining to cry.
Amazyn how she started to develop the character and how they started to trust in each other. How the principal character has to fight with other and you can see how many times you can be wrong about the other persons.
You can not judge a book for their cover.
The world that Sarah create is incredible!!! you will enjoy each and every corner.
Also the romance is sooo nice, she create a strong character who will not set for anyone and the person who she will choose will be worth it.
The plot and the final is something i didn see coming and I truly love it. You will no ever be dissapointed.

I wanted to read the sample of Sarah J. Maas' newest book because I wanted to see if her writing style has changed since tshe wrote Throne of Glass, but also to see of the world would be interesting enough for me to purchase the book.
I am still not the biggest fan of Maas' writing, but after few chapters I got used to it.
Since the book has lots of info dumping I think the readers would get most out of physical copy.
I would like to read the whole novel.

With a new, complicated world, there are always a lot of details that need to be introduced along with the characters, and I get that, but there was so much thrown at the reader in these first chapters that absorbing it all was difficult and definitely slowed the pace. Even so, the characters are vibrant and I have every confidence that Sarah Maas will make sure the reader becomes fully immersed in the world as the story continues. While it didn't pull at me as strongly as her other series, that won't stop me from reading the rest.

I love Sarah J. Maas but I must admit, I did not care for this book (even though the excerpt I got from Net Galley seemed quite promising). I think the world-building was tedious and sloppy and the protagonist "Bryce" (who wants a protagonist called Bryce?!?) was unimpressive and borderline one-dimensional. The only characters I was finding interesting were killed off immediately and the plot was all too generic and predictable. I received this and Chain of Gold the same day. Read CoG in one day. Finished this - after skipping many paragraphs - over a month after starting it. I think this book fits squarely into the category of trying-too-hard. In one word, I'd call it: disappointing.

When it comes to Sarah J Maas I'm found in a dilemma: I love her worldbuilding, but there are characters that I love since the beginning and others it's just meh, Bryce is one of the meh ones, and this book is too big and slow to me follow her journey.

The beginning of this book is slow and bogged down by intense world-building. While Sarah's other books are considered YA, this is definitely MA for constant language, graphic violent descriptions, and explicit sexual situations.
I will say thoughthe world-building bohs down the pace some, the world IS intriguing. The mystery elements are captivating. And I like Sarah's other books to read more of this one.

After reading a portion of this story, I was more intrigued to have more. It was definitely an inviting appetizer and have the reading wanting to want more.

This was addicting!! I miss Sarah J Maas' work and I have a feeling this series would turn out amazing. Can't wait to read the whole story and fall in love with the characters!

Bryce is half-human and half-Fae. When she goes home from work, she sees her usual group of friends (aka werewolves) that she loves but doesn’t want to deal with after a hard day at work. She gets dress up to go on a dinner date. Her dinner date is late. When he inally shows, he is “glued” to his phone ignoring Bryce. She gets angry and leaves him. She calls up two friends and goes partying with them. When she returns home, Bryce finds all her friends dead. The place is also trashed. Who killed them? What will she do?
There is so much detail in the story, it’s almost too much to remember. Bryce is a great character. I must admit I didn’t want to stop reading but had to since it’s an excerpt. I want to know more about this exciting fantasy!

Now I really can't wait to read the book. Good thing the Waterstones edition is here!! Thank you for letting me read the excerpt. Really has increased my desire to get to the full copy as soon as I can!

This is just an extract but I've really enjoyed it.
The story starts directly but immediately gives informations about the setting, and that's good because urban fantasy are difficult to handle in many cases (or seems too obvious or badly developed).
The plot intrigued me and the characters seem interesting (and so many!), it's clear this is Sarah J. Maas writing style, and I think that it has improved a lot during the years.
So I can't wait to dig more in this story! Thank you for giving me the chance to read it!

The moment I started reading this, I was in love.
Although we only got a brief glimpse of this new and exciting story, it set up the world and introduced us to some of the amazing characters, like our main character Bryce.
The city where Bryce lives, Cresent City, is much like a modern-day city. We have nightclubs, excessive drinking, illegal substances, technology, and bad dates. However, one small thing is very very different. This is a world of the supernatural: of shapeshifters, Angels, elves, and anything else you can think of.
The writing and the characters were set up so well, that I even cried in the excerpt provided. The excerpt went up until the inciting incident - which is intense, dark and heartwrenching. A good show of what is to come with the rest of the story.
The story started off as most do. An introduction to the world and to the main characters we will follow.
Firstly we meet the amazing, badass Bryce Quinlan. She is stubborn, she is sassy and I adore everything about her. Then we meet her equally sassy best friend, Danika. I love the friendship between the two of them, and their entwined history.
Since this is a complicated world, there is quite a bit of information given to us at the beginning, however, it wasn't difficult for me to keep up with all the characters and the history.
The writing is great and the characters are unique, as I always find when it comes to a Maas book.
I bought the book after reading 1 chapter of this excerpt and there is so much greatness waiting to be discovered in this new, exciting, adult fantasy.

This new series by Maas introduces us to a variety of sentient creatures.--shape shifters, angels, archangels, mermaids, fae, and witches who, along with humans all live together in Lunathion, commonly called the Crescent City, vying for dominance.
Bryce is half-human and half-fae. Her best friend is Danika, a wolf shape shifter. When Danika is killed, Bryce's world falls apart. She becomes determined to learn who killed her friends and avenge them. Joining forces with fallen angel Hunt, a slave, she works to solve the mystery. The two battle crime and dark magic in their search for the truth. Bryce and Hunt become attracted to one another but a few plot twists make things...complicated.
The book has beautiful end papers. It will appeal to all the other fans of Maas including teens and adults who like fantasy. Those who enjoy the books of Laini Taylor and Cinda Chima will also enjoy this one. It appears to set the stage for sequels, but can also stand alone

After reading this excerpt, I want to read this book! Totally captured me & now I need to know what is going to happen in this story!
