I read the whole book and this is my review!

Incredible. Sarah J. Maas has created yet another series that I will forever be obsessed with. I absolutely adored this book. Another brilliant world of magic she created. One of the things I loved about this book was that it had so much different types of myth and magic in it. Seriously. You think of it, it was probably there. But she created a world where all these types lived together and even threw a contemporary modern twists to it, that I didn't think would occur until I read the first pages and was like wait what? But it worked. It really did. It's like throwing the world of magic into a modern day city and all of its tech. Just so cool. And once again she gives me characters that are so rich and you can't help but love them all. The story mostly follows Bryce and Hunt, but she does throw in a few other points of view like she is known to do (especially in Throne of Glass series). Bryce and Hunt are two souls that know pain and suffering and loss but fight through it every single day. And thrown together for a mission that brings all that pain to light. These kick ass heroes are quite the duo. Their epic romance and bond is one that you feel from the very first page. You watch as they interact with one another because they simply have to, but then it slowly (and I mean slowly) turns to respect and friendship, and later more when they realize that that looking at one another is like looking into a mirror. Beautiful story there. And that was just simply part of it. The other side fo the story is a bit of a murder mystery with so many twists and turns and throw in a lot of magic and magical creatures, you won't stop until you get to the end. I couldn't put it down and I couldn't wait to find out how all will be revealed. 800 pages of brilliance. This was an incredible first story to a series that I'm not sure where the next book will take us, but I know it will be interesting. I cannot wait for book two and revisit so many amazing characters and stories I know will come with it.

I was so thankful for this except! It got me hooked and caused me to buy the full book the day it came out!
Sarah J Maas does it again with her wonderful story telling and amazing plot twists.
I loved every second of Crescent City. It will NOT disappoint!!

As many may relate, it's difficult to review an excerpt, especially since the first few chapters of any new book is often heavy with world-building and info-dumping. However, this quick glance into Maas's new work is an exciting preview to her new world-- complete with angels, wolves, mystical creatures. This is definitely a deviation with from previous Maas titles, and I look forward to reading the whole thing.

Fan of Sarah j Maas other books will find this book enjoyable. This book is a character/plot driven novel. It’s world building needs a lot of work seeing that many times I had to stop and ask what/who/where is that. The characters are well created and have some growth to them. Like always Sarah gives a twist to her character but unlike her other novels the reader SHOULD have guess this coming from half way through the novel. Overall, a very fast paced enjoyable read.

I enjoyed the excerpt a lot!I have already bought the whole book!
I would like to thank the publisher for giving me a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve actually never read a Sarah J. Maas book, but this excerpt for House of Earth and Blood was so good that it inspired me to pick up my first copy. The first bit is extremely well written and entertaining. I can’t wait to dive deeper into this world and get to know all of the characters. Seems like this is a promising start to her venture into adult fantasy!

I thought this was the whole book or I wouldn’t have requested. I should’ve paid more attention but didn’t think there were samples on here. I would still love this book and may purchase it. I recommend this author. She is great. This is a great book from what I’ve read so far.

Amazing first adult book from sarah j maas. Writing was great as always, and I was hooked from the beginning. I now own 2 special editions of this book, that's how much I loved it

Too much profanity for me. Lots of f- words.
Also too many different magical beings with made up names to keep sorted out. I couldn't keep everyone straight as far as names vs titles vs species.

I can't wait to read the rest of the book! SJM has such a way of creating worlds and her characters are always complex and relatable. I can't wait to see what's in store as we continue this story.

SPEECHLESS! UTTERLY SPEECHLESS!
Maas does not disappoint people! I’m a huge fan of Maas’ other series so I might be a bit biased when I rated this book. Her style of writing is what truly draws the reader and keeps them her loyal followers forever!

As with any (good) series the first book has a ton to establish. So there was world building and new characters to bring in. 3/4 of the way into the book is where you see most of action. I must admit there was a point where I was just waiting for it....I knew it was coming... that big holy crap scene!

This storyline has a bit more of a paranormal investigative feel for at least the first half of the book. I wasn’t in love with how long it took to build to the good stuff but that might just be my impatience talking. Overall I would recommend this book to romance fantasy book lovers who appreciate a hardcore and loyal female lead.

An amazing start to the book, sets the scene and introduces characters. But omg the cliffhanger, I'm so glad I read this close to when the book was actually being released. I couldn't wait.

Maas is always good with world building and this book is no exception. She does have a bit of heavy romance in most of her other series so it would be nice to see that toned down a bit as i'm here for the fantasy part and not the mushy love stuff.

3 stars for now as it's not the whole book and i want to wait to read the ending before giving it more/less stars.

3 stars

I love all of Sarah’s books and this one will probably not be any different. It starts like all of hers which is why it only gets 3 stars. It is a total info dump of characters, cities, and other worldly things. It is really confusing to be honest and I can’t read the map at the beginning on my kindle because it’s too small. All that said by the end of the 4th chapter I was ready for the rest of the book!

3.5

I am a huge fan of Maas and my rating is in no way reflective of how I think I'm going to feel about this as a whole.

I have a lot on my mind right now, and getting into a new world with this level of world building was a little challenging, but it did the trick of exciting me for MORE.

I am in line at the library for this book and can't wait to see what happens. Off to a good start.

I received a free excerpt of this book from netgalley and at first I couldn't get into it even though I love supernatural stories. I finally got sucked in around the time the Fae dumped the human and her world crumbled after a night of awesome partying. After inhaling the rest of the excerpt I'm left jonesing to devour the rest of the story.

Just the excerpt wasn’t enough. I should have known that Maas would write a story that would make me forget or at the very least ignore everything else I have going on because I need to find out what’s going to happen. I’m going to go out and grab the book as soon as I can. Thank you for the brief preview off the book. I can’t wait!

I read the excerpt, which was intriguing enough that I want to read the rest of the book. Set in a modern world where magical creatures live in the open.
