I want more!! I know this was only the first five chapters but I'm hooked. I want to read more of this new series from Sarah J. Maas. I've read her previous two series and this is a whole new unique world with fascinating characters and I NEED to know what will happen next! The characters had me invested immediately so when the final chapter of the excerpt ended with a shake up of the characters I was aghast and am desperate to know what will happen next! Awesome start to what looks like a fascinating new series!

Well it's only 5 chapters but it was actually a lot to read. I know it's a long book but I was glad I got to read some of it because it is definitely one I will buy and read for sure. There were a lot of terms and a lot of characters so in the beginning I thought it would be difficult for me to follow but it was actually ok. I did get attached to some characters only to be disappointed when some of them don't seem to be making it to the end of the story but oh well! Definitely loved what I read and cannot wait to get my hands on this book and read it.

3.75 stars
This rating is subjected to change once I’ve read the completed novel.
When I saw the excerpt of Crescent City available on NetGalley, you can bet I jumped at it! I loved Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series and I’m super excited to read her adult debut.
I don’t know how I feel about our protagonist Bryce yet, it’s still to early to say. I did like her independence and her strong sense of self-respect. And I absolutely adored her friendship with Danika. I find Maas does a really great job writing relationships.
That being said, I did find the beginning of the excerpt very info dumpy, to the point where I felt overwhelmed and was having a hard time keeping track of what I’m being told and what was currently happening in the scene. Which is understandable, to an extend, as this book is introducing a new world and I’m only five chapters in, still trying to get my bearings. Because of the information overload, the plot did feel really slow at first. However, it does pick up in the latter half of chapter 5. The ending definitely left me craving for more! I can’t wait to get my hands on this book!
Please Note: I was fortunate enough to receive an excerpt of the first 5 chapters from Bloomsbury via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence my opinions in any way.

THIS EXCERPT WAS EVERYTHING I NEEDED IN LIFE
Literally
I feel like I made myself suffer now that I read this sneak peek because I WANT MORE
I'm in love, absolutely

Loved the excerpt and I cannot wait to continue reading the story. All of the elements are working for me so far from the unique worldbuilding, to the strong characters and sassy wit.

This is very exciting. In this excerpt, Maas has set up a vast fantasy world with so many facets to her and an intriguing plot. I can't wait to read this!

Wow! That was amazing and the cliffhanger epic. It was so action packed and fun. It took a long time for the plot to get going and all the exposition made my head spin, there was probably a way to do it more subtly but I'm sure you'd get used to it the more you read.
I enjoyed the mix of magic and technology in the story and the best part was hands down the relationship between Bryce and Danika!
The excerpt shows promise of a great novel.

This review is for the first five chapters teaser that the publisher has made available on Netgalley. Welcome to planet Midgard were apparently humans once were in charge but now they seem to be woefully outnumbered by supernatural beings . We meet Bryce who is half Fae but determined to live her life her way. Her best friend is the Alpha of the local Werewolf Pack but as this story begins it’s revealed that a bomb happy human has been released on a technicality from prison and everyone is worried that further terrorist atrocities are on their way !
This snippet if I’m being brutal would only get a three from me because one Bryce just didn’t strike a chord in anyway and two because most of this is setting the scene, giving the reader information and generally trying to world build . HOWEVER the last few pages most definitely got my full attention and as much as I didn’t like much about Bryce I am most definitely desperate to know who, what and why ! My lips are sealed but the story took a very unique turn considering how characters were introduced so I will rate this a four and say that I’m sincerely hoping the entire book will satisfy my bookish soul !

To whoever decided THAT is where to end the excerpt:
“Yeah, I have a lot of questions. Number one, how dare you?”
This really does have the feel of Sarah J. Maas heading into a fully adult style of storytelling. It has the classic feel that Maas has with words, but it’s more grown up and edgier than her previous works.
It takes seconds to start falling for the characters on the page. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Maas book if she didn’t completely rip your heart out and stomp on it, I just didn’t expect for it to happen so quickly.
This excerpt has definitely whet my appetite and pushed all of my worry of a new series aside. I can already tell this will become a book to be savoured.

I'm glad I was able to read an excerpt, although I guess it wasn't entirely necessary as I enjoyed reading all of her work. ACOTAR more than the TOG series.

So excited and thrilled to read an excerpt of SJM's newest book "House of Earth and Blood"! I love the cover, it's so pretty. The characters were very interesting, I DID like Bryce. If I had any complaint, it would be that it got a tad bit info-dumpy at times, so it was slightly difficult to keep track of what was happening at times.

* I was provided an arc by NetGalley in exchange for a review*
There are two types of people, those who love this author and will consume any and all words she writes, and those just don’t care for her at all. I definitely belong in the first group.
This book is such a smooth and easy read. I honestly had no idea I was at the end because I was completely engrossed in Bryce’s story. Which brings me to my only criticism; it’s too short! I want more now, because waiting is going to suck! It seems to be a very different world than we’ve read from Mass before, with Werewolves, Angels, Witches, and many others. I immediately connected with the main characters because their dialogue was so easy going and familiar, and it allowed you to fall into this friendship. This for me just added to my love for this author and this book. Then the story itself is really interesting, and I look forward to see where she goes with it. That ending though..!

Well played Sarah J. Maas, well played. I just go to read an excerpt of this book and well crap on a cracker I MUST have this book now! I have love all of Ms. Maas's previous books so I was excited about this one but after reading this heart wrenching beginning, just wow.

I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw an email offering me an arc of this book! I was so excited you’d think I’d won the lottery!
That’s when I actually took the time to read the BIG CAPITAL LETTERS saying this was only an excerpt.
Oh well, I didn’t win the lottery but I still got to read 70 pages of pure bliss. (For me, not so much for the characters in the book. Some pretty bad stuff happens)
Honestly though, I was expecting greatness from Sarah J Maas and she didn’t disappoint. This was everything I could’ve hoped for. It was thrilling and exciting. The characters were strong and intriguing. And the world building, oh the word building. Maas is just too good.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the book! (And proceed to write a lengthy review about everything that’s amazing about it)

'House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1),' the first of a brand new adult series by Sarah J. Maas is only a little less than a month away and I can't wait..
Yesterday, I got a glimpse of the entirely new world she's created around main character, Bryce Quinlan through the first five chapters of the novel. I must say, as a freshman Maas reader, I did not know exactly what I was getting into.. but that's good!
I like to go in as blindly as possible when I start a read. Even though I obviously read the synopsis when I first take interest in a book, I like to let as much of that fall away as I can before picking it up. I like to give the author fresh eyes.
In this case, I also didn't have any sort of predetermined idea as to her style or the types of things she might throw at the reader. So, as I immediately grew attached to certain characters in the opening chapters, even though what happened was put out there right in the blurb, I was crushed when that pivotal moment came. And to think, that scene is such a small thing as to begin the journey..
Clearly, this is going to be a rough road to travel and I'm all in. If you can break my heart with a setup you've told me is coming.. I want to see what more you have to offer.
The Crescent City world is huge. All manner of magical and non-magical beings existing in one place.. seven quarters in the city.. an Imperial Council (we all know how well that went for the people of the Star Wars universe).. and what appears to be a couple of very nasty players in the game. Both above and below the divisional class lines.
March 3rd can't get here fast enough!

Holy Hel!!! The only thing that could have made this better was if it had been the whole book instead of an excerpt. I have been hearing so many wonderful things about the way Sarah J. Maas writes that I had to FINALLY check it out myself and.......I am officially a huge fan! I have like 6 of her books on my TBR list but now that I've read the first few chapters of this new series I just HAVE to get my hands on an actual hard copy come March 3rd. Bryce Quinlan is a strong female lead that has a pretty big task ahead of her trying to figure out who is responsible for killing her friends. I mean, what's not love about a series that has Fae, Witches, Sprites, Wolves, and Fallen Angels (and so many more)?

To be honest, this is one of my most anticipated releases of 2020 and reading the five first chapters got me even more excited!!
We mostly get to meet some key characters and some stuff about the world and the species. I think that these chapters take place before the main story and they end in a big and very important moment to Bryce's future!
I can't wait to read the whole book!

I am so happy to have gotten a chance to read this excerpt and it makes me more excited for the release date! There is a lot going on in this book and I expect the world building will be intricate and take some time to settle in my head. There are four houses in this world which cover a whole of creatures, fae, and everything else. But I'm excited to learn about them all and Bryce. So far so good and I'm excited to read the whole book!

I have been very excited for this book recently so when I saw the excerpt I had to read it ASAP! The beginning was a little bit of an info dump, but other than that, I really enjoyed this. I am so intrigued and it left me wanting more. Definitely looking forward to it’s publication.

I loved this teaser! Can't wait to read the entire work on March 3.
I don't know what to say for such a short section of work, but I can say that fans of Sarah J Maas' other series will love this one too, even though the writing does make it clearly pretty early on that this is an adult work.
I can't wait!
