The book is out now, but reading this excerpt before the release was amazing.
Sarah J Maas does not disappoint introducing new characters to cherish. And the story will pull you in and will not let go until he very end.

This excerpt definitely hooked me! I am a huge Sarah J. Maas , and I am pretty sure I'm going to love this book just as much as the others. I can't wait to read the whole thinig!

I loved this excerpt! Moss' writing just gets better with each new book. The strong female lead, new beings to learn about, mythological creatures and humans. Grand scope.

Love this book. Really caught me off guard. The mix of different fantasy characters (Shifter, fae, vampires, angels, etc.) was refreshing and not one I’ve read before. Every time I thought I had something figured out, plot twist!

Absolutely loved this book, Sarah J Mass really knows how to make you emotional and invested in her characters. Bryce and Hunter's relationship was so fun and I can't wait for the next book!

What else can you say about Sarah J Maas. Here she is at the top of her game when it comes to the fantasy genre. She doesn't have restraints on her that Young adult fantasy would normally give her some I'm very excited and happy to see what she can do with Adult fiction. House of Earth and Blood might begin a little slow and takes a little while to get into but I trust Sarah J. Maas and I know she won't let us down. I don't normally read paranormal fantasy so this is taking a little while for me to get into but I cannot wait to continue and see what's coming next.

Crescent City is enough to give you blue balls! However I loved the whole book, as I bought it when it came out. Thank you Netgalley for the great excerpt to fuel my need for more Maas!

This is another great female heroine from Maas. The adult world and vibe she has created is a treat for those older readers who have loved her YA/NA titles. I give it a 4 star only because the world building is a little clumsy in the beginning. Either way, if you’ve enjoyed her precious you will love this new volume.

In this new series, we are introduced to Bryce and Crescent City—a world where diverse magical beings, rule over the lesser humans. There is death, mystery, treachery, mistrust, magic…and that’s all just in the excerpt.
It will be hard to surpass Maas’ Throne of Glass series. I couldn’t get enough of that. But Maas is a brilliant weaver of fantasy and I’ll probably give this series a fair chance, in due time.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for the read of Sarah J. Maas’, House of Earth and Blood (Excerpt).
Opinions expressed in my reviews are my own.

I NEED MORE. Gah. This book is already perfection. I love everything Sarah J. Maas writes and I’ve been dying for this book!

❝ “Light it up, bitch.“ ❞
I was lucky enough to get an excerpt of House of Earth and Blood, which is one of my most anticipated releases of the year! So let’s get to it!
The excerpt covers the first five chapters of the start of Sarah J. Maas’ first adult fantasy series. She introduces us to Crescent City, giving us a look into the world where the pure blooded magical species reign and humans are prey. Only the strong make it in this world, though the city provides a semblance of safety and normalcy.
And although it is an introduction to the series, I do think there was a bit too much info-dumping in these first five chapters–which is why I went with a lower rating despite really falling in love with these characters and the setting. Otherwise I would give these first five chapters a solid 4-stars.
We meet the main character, Bryce, a young woman who isn’t sure of her place in the world yet but intends to live every day to the fullest with her circle of friends who love each other unconditionally. Bryce is a loyal, smart, sassy, and lively character. She had this way of projecting utter confidence and I loved her friendship with Danika. Then there was Danika herself, full of swagger, snark, and fiercely protective of those she loved. She had an undeniable charm to her and I instantly liked her.
I’ll avoid spoilers as usual (though this one isn’t much of a spoiler considering the synopsis of the book tells you it’s coming), but I’ll leave you with the warning that the end of Chapter 5 utterly break your heart and leave you needing the rest of the book ASAP. It was such a cruel and intense way to end the chapter and (because I have finished reading my full copy of the book) I can confidently say the book only gets better and more emotional from here!

i think that the first few chapters of this book was amazing. after what happened to the characters we meet in the first few chapters i kind of lost interest in the book.

i really loved this sneak peak, and i had so much fun reading it! it left so much to make me excited for once i was able to get my hands on the full-length story!

I didn’t get a chance to read this excerpt until I already had the full book but I loved the full thing. From the very beginning I was interested in Bryce and the other characters and everything was so captivating. I really loved this book and can’t wait for the sequel!

It was quite disappointing to me to pick up this new series, being a huge fan of the Throne of Glass series. And it was also a massive failure to her in this trasition from YA to adult fantasy; oh man, she failed it. The only adult content I've got was a lot, and I mean A WHOLE LOT of swearing and explicit pornography. So, I picked up a physical copy after reading this except, super excited I was, poor me, and felt like it was a waste of money. Would not recommend it, unfortunetely, although, if you'd like to get to know her, I'd say "pick up TOG right now, please".

I am so excited for this book and I can’t wait for it!!! This is going to definitely be a 5 star book!

This is my favorite SJM book I’ve read to date! I can’t stop recommending it! An adult urban fantasy perfect for those who love the fantasy genre or are just looking for an introduction into fantasy!

The new series, by Sarah J. Maas, opens with House of Earth and Blood which involves Bryce, half-fae/half-human and her world. The cover is beautifully complex!
In the beginning of the book, Bryce is trying to calm her wolf friend because of an injustice occurring, which let a criminal receive freedom. Bryce goes on a date with her human boyfriend and he ignores her the entire time, so she dumps him and leaves to party at a club with her friends. As Bryce returns home, she can tell something is off, even though she’s wasted. Once she reaches her apartment she finds her best friend and roommate, Danika, slaughtered, as well as the rest of Danika’s wolf pack. Briggs, the criminal that had been set free, is arrested for the murders because of evidence and motive. Two years later, the same type of murder takes place while Briggs is still in prison. Bryce is assigned to work with the police to help find the murderer. She reluctantly and grudgingly let’s them follow her around for her protection and she spends more time and energy being annoying, rude and wasting the police’s time when all she needs to do is give them a list of Danika’s whereabouts and who she spent the last week of her life around. This makes Bryce seem like a completely selfish brat. While she seemed to be wasting time, she was actually gathering information to share with the Angel protecting her. Eventually Bryce and Hunt, the Angel guard, work together and try to find answers to several mysteries, not just Danika’s death. They also become friends and more to each other. Things take a turn for the worst and Hunt feels like he will be a slave forever. Twists and surprises abound and make this first book in the Crescent City a great start to a promising new series, 5 stars!

March 5, 2020: I’m speechless. But for the sake of commemorating this huge moment, this book was absolutely brilliant and blew my mind. I’m sure I’ll have better words to describe this book, but for now: I’m obsessed. Absolutely obsessed.
April 29, 2020: Rereading this book and listening to it on audiobook might just be the best decision I’ve made this year.

This review is all over the place because I did like it, but it’s been absolutely bananas in the world lately. And I work in healthcare which is also bananas right now. I can barely get my mind to focus on reading a book, much less writing a review.
This book had a slow start. I was surprised by the first five chapters up on Netgalley because I honestly wouldn’t have finished the book on the first five chapters if I hadn’t loved the authors other books.
But I had faith and pressed on and it gets better, and has a great ending. There’s no cliffhanger, but it will be a good set up for the next book.
It took me 3 days to finish this doorstopper. It was a good story, but I found my mind wandering. But that was also the start of the pandemic in the US, which in hindsight, has been on my mind since February.
Side note - I was super bummed out about not getting to go on tour (I had tickets to Nashville) but it was for the best.
I liked Bryce a lot. I think she will grow more on me as the series progresses. Hunt was alright - I had some reservations about him.
I loved Bryce’s brother Ruhn.
And I’m holding out for Aidas, I have a feeling things are gonna get real interesting with him.
If you like Sarah J Maas, you’ll like this book. If you aren’t a fan of hers, this book probably won’t change that.
