Sarah J Maas is one of my favorite fantasy authors and she had me curious about this series from the beginning…
Crescent City is her new start, now with more adult (and somehow more contemporary) story including elements that we love from her: relatable protagonists, really good world building, very interesting secondary characters and some intriguing storylines (and intriguing characters as well, I am not going to lie). All of it with a dose of romance and unexpected twists.
In general, I enjoyed the book… although it felt that this one was disproportionate between too much world building and background story, versus the moment where everything takes off completely and makes you feel fully invested on it. This time I also struggled (more than usual in her books) to connect with certain main characters.
All things considered, I have a long list of topics for which is impossible not to want to know what happens next… the future of this series is very promising and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book…
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced excerpt of the book. The full book was happily purchased.

Sarah J. Maas just knows how to snag a reader off the bat with her books!! I absolutely cannot WAIT until I can read the entire thing!! Trust me, you won't want to miss out!!

While this was only an excerpt, it was enough to "wet my whistle" and make me want to read the entire book. It was enough of a look into the powerhouse that is the world of Maas.

I was super excited to get this excerpt. I found it started out slow getting to know the characters took awhile, but I loved how the world building is shaping up. I am fascinated with how many different types of beings there are. Its interesting to see how the werewolves natural instincts were utilized for the use in the policing of the city. All in all its an intriguing start and I cannot wait to read the full book.

Queen Maas has done it again! The world building is, as always, on point! The feeeeels!!!! OMG! The twist at the beginning got me and made me ugly cry. I was expecting something between ACOTAR and ToG but this was neither! I cannot wait to see where Bryce's story goes!

Sarah Maas has the innate ability to draw the reader in from page 1 and then make them forget about the rest of the world. Her superb storytelling, intricate plot and interesting characters make this another 5 star book for Maas . I can't wait to read the rest of the book.

Sarah J. Maas is one of my favorite authors. This excerpt took me some time to get into and I think that was because the first few chapters are a big info dump about the world. It was a little confusing. However, I was hooked after the first few chapters and I was sad the preview was over. It definitely ended on a crazy cliffhanger part I pre-ordered the book in both hardcover and audiobook formats and am excited to see what happens to Bryce and the rest of the characters!

Maas launches her brand-new CRESCENT CITY series with House of Earth and Blood: the story of half-Fae and half-human Bryce Quinlan as she seeks revenge in a contemporary fantasy world of magic, danger, and searing romance.
I'm a huge fan of Sarah J Maas, and devoured both this extract and the full version in one long gulp. It doesn't disappoint - it lives on a rougher, wilder, edgier frontier of Maas' world - the characters are even more intense than usual (backed up by their language!) and the story darker and more disturbing than her other books. It's definitely more on the adult spectrum and has razor sharp edges. I can't wait for the next installment.

the way i literally don’t even have words to describe how i feel right now. I read the first 3 chapters, and also received a physical ARC of this book. it left me speechless way more times than i could count. Definitely get your tissues ready because you will laugh, cry, sigh, and all of that in between. Sarah J Maas never ceases to amaze me and I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
5/5 stars PERIOD

I can't say that the first part captured my attention. It seemed that it included too much information and my head was a big mess. I hope that the rest of the book is better, because I wasn't really invested and had to leave it aside and grab it again after a while. I'm sorry but that's the truth. I don't know If I will end up reading this one after all. It's too long for a first book in a series, but that's just my opinion.

I was approved for an excerpt of House of Earth and Blood. I can tell by the excerpt that the beginning of this book is going to be really heavy world building, which is to be expected in the first book of a fantasy series. Excited to read more!

Was kinda annoyed to realize that this was an excerpt, but I should have expected it considering SJM is one of the biggest authors in the business at the moment. This wasn't great, in all honesty, and I was unable to get into the world due to the confusion of it and how it was presented; I've seen other reviews that claim it takes half the book to really get into it, and that the worldbuilding is simply subpar. I don't know if I want to pick this book up, and I've been debating it for a few months now without coming to a conclusion.

She is trying WAAAAAAY too hard. Like what’s with all the extra profanity? Not that I have a problem with profanity, I’m a sailor on my best day. Yet it’s like she just throws it in at random intervals just to make the book seem more adult.

Holy Moly! What a rollercoaster! I absolutely loved the characters in this story, the writing was beautifully done. Scenes flowed smoothly and the world building as always is absolutely spectacular,Sarah J Maas' writing always connects with me. She has a way with her words to the point that it just heals me. This story is about resilience, moving on, and learning to love again. The story starts off slow but before you know it, BAM! in your face.. Everything is happening. There were multiple gasping moments where I didn't see things coming. Plot twist, of course there were a couple that left you in shock for a few hours. I cannot wait for book 2!

Love love love Sarah J Maas and was excited about a new and upcoming series. Although this was an excerpt, I was not disappointed, and I can't wait to get my hands on the full story!

This excerpt of House of Earth and Blood showed great promise. I did have it on my TBR already and the cliffhanger at the end of the excerpt made me want to read it even more. I’m hoping the rest of the novel will be just as good!

Amazing excerpt to a new Maas series. At first, my brain was a bit confused with so much information and different terms being thrown at you. However once you start to get into the story, you start to learn the characters. Then finally, a heart wrenching ending which has you begging to read more.

House of Earth and Blood was a book that was about 700 pages long. The first and second part of the book are pretty slow but once you get to the third part, the twists and turns are never ending. It’s amazingly written. The friendships, romance, world, and pretty much everything. I highly recommend others to read it!

To say that this book is amazing would be an understatement! This book truly had me staying up till 2 am with my heart racing, zooming through the last 200 pages. I truly mean it when i say that Sarah J Maas out did herself with this book. I love it so much and I cannot wait for the next book to come out because I know that somehow she will end up making it even better than the first (Which doesn't seem humanly possible)! So, if you are a fan of Sarah J Maas, or just a flat out fan of an amazing book of fantasy, action, and romance then look no further because this is the book for you!

Absolutely great excerpt from this book. It got me excited to read the whole thing. It teased the plot without giving too much away and got me excited to see where this was all going. I read the rest of the book as soon as it came out and was not disappointed.
