Holy snap. I wasn’t that excited for Crescent City, but after that excerpt I read from @netgalley, I kind of need it. Now. The end of the excerpt got so good! I need to know what happened.

Initial thoughts of the beginning of this book:
* I didn’t expect this to be a magical realism type novel. It’s already quite different than her other two series. I love the diverse cast of characters. So many different kinds of creatures all living together in a modern world.
* I don’t see the need to have the f word on nearly every page. Just because it’s an adult novel doesn’t mean the text needs to be saturated with f-bombs.
* If the beginning is already this heartbreaking, what is the rest of the novel going to be like? My heart feels for Bryce and the other characters. I now have this intense desire to know what happens.

I'm so excited for the rest of this book!! 5 chapters just isnt enough to hold me over. Her writing has always blown me away, she has an incredible ability to build these worlds that completely pull you in. I've already preordered my copy!!

I don’t normally like to read excerpts, and I wasn’t overly excited about this book. I did burn through the ACOTAR series, but could take or leave Throne of Glass, so I’m no super fan.

All of that said, this excerpt right here was a page turner, and I have preordered the book. What a way to cut it off!

So far this book is mazing! I can't wait to read the rest of it! I love Sarah J. Maas so very much! Everything she writes is incredible!

If you like other titles from Sarah J Mass this another great story. This has many laments from other stories she has told with angel’s, wolfs and many other creatures. From what I read it sounds like the main character goes though some hard times. This has definitely made me really excited for the full book to find out more on the characters and seeing where this story will go.

So excited to read HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD on March 3rd! This preview looks so promising. Sarah J. Maas is the queen of complex world-building and action-packed stories. Can't wait.

Having been a huge fan of the Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J Maas (and I'm in the middle of ACOTAR) I was excited to get a glimpse of what she's come up with next and This was no exception. In this small excerpt I am already hooked and want to know more about The House of Earth and Blood & the other houses involved as well. I love the dynamic between Byrce and Danika and I am extremely anticipating the rest of this book and the series! Is it March yet?!

Well I can tell from the first fave characters that SJm has done it again. This one is going to be hell of a ride already. Bryce already seem like a character that I get root for and will be up there with Aelin and Feyre. The world building in just this first five chapters is already interesting and complex. I had to take notes already to digest what was going on. I saw that cliffhanger coming since a certain character was getting so much background information quickly. So I knew some shit was about to happen. I can't wait to read the rest March 3rd.

Omgosh I could not believe that i was able to read some of this book. Now I have to wait for the real date to read the whole book!
I love this author and have read her ACOTAR and TOG series. I couldn't put those down and I wasnt able to read this one fast enough.
I want to keep reading and find out all about the characters.
This was a whole new world to be introduced to with werewolves, angels, elves, etc. The first pages were building up the story but than after the setting has been set you are off on an adventure...only for me to have wait!
I can not wait to get a hold of this book.
I was provided an excerpt from netgalley and the publisher for my honest review.

A promising beginning from a voice who is honored among young (and older) readers. Can’t wait to read more.

Such a tease. I cannot wait to read the whole book soon. I want to know what happens from here. Maas is one of my favorite YA authors. I own all her books. They are always a lot of fun. The beginning is filled with lots of info which will take a while to get used to but I know I’m going to love it! I love that so many YA authors are expanding to adult books but not losing their own style.

House of Earth And Blood
Oh My ! OH OH OH MY ! How fast can I get my hands on this book ?!?!?! What a start to an amazing new world, filled with shifters, fairies, werewolves, angels, elves, humans and ? I meet a section of this world in the excerpt I read of wolves and their friends from other species. There was a lot of new world stuff to absorb in the first couple chapters, this is an all new world. It felt a touch slow I just wanted to see what would happen, yeh I’m impatient. Then it started moving fast, really fast, when everything was changing, it changed a different way, my heart broke and my peek was over. :(
I loved it, want it, need it.

The world-building is so so so so so cool and interesting and I need more of it! This was a pretty good set up in just the first five chapters and I'm really looking forward to reading more about Bryce! I didn't expect things to escalate so quickly, but that's just Maas--always surprising you :D

I was given an excerpt of this book in exchange for an honest review. I can honestly say even though I was only able to read the first five chapters of this book those chapters wrecked me. I don't know how Sarah J Maas does it but she packs so much into so little. There were characters I was rooting for, characters that devastated me, characters I need to know more about, and of course, things were left on a bit of a cliff-hanger dangit I need to know! Lol, I will definitely be picking this one back up when it becomes available for purchase.

I read this sampler in one sitting! I cannot wait for the full copy. I truly believe that this might be one of SJM’s greatest works. If this is her adult, after reading her YA, this will be right up my alley. I think that from what I’ve read, the characters will continue to develop and we will get a rich fantasy that most readers will enjoy!

Thank you for this sampler!

Be able to just read this excerpt wasn’t enough for me. I swallowed all five chapters in one sitting and was blown away by how quickly I took to liking the characters and story. Where this book is headed is an amazing start to a brand new series from my favorite author!

*full review to come once I’ve read a finished or bound ARC copy*

I want to thank NetGalley and Bloomsbury for providing this excerpt for honest review.

One of the first things I noticed about this excerpt is that it's quite a bit different from the other books I've read by Sarah J. Maas. While it is a fantasy setting, it's Urban Fantasy rather than the usual high fantasy of her Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses books.

Crescent City seems to host a great deal of fantastical beings, but also humans - and of course, someone wanting to start some kind of war between the two. Humans. Shifters. Angels. Elementals. Nymphs. Vampyres. Dragons. There's a little bit of everything in the city.

My first complaint might be all of the various names that are dropped almost immediately. Names that are familiar to the characters, but not familiar to the reader - leaving the reader to flounder for context to ascertain who these people might be and what their significance might be. Names that, more than likely, will become relevant within the story as a whole eventually, but are next to meaningless at the moment they're introduced.

In quick time, the reader is bombarded with information. Libraries, people plotting to start wars, public crucifixions. We're informed about the workings of the city as if it were old hat, and we should know these things, and certainly these things will likely all make sense in time - at the beginning of the tale, they do not.

It's obvious from pretty early on, as well, that the characters of Bryce and Danika are good friends - apparently dorm-mates when they were university. Their camaraderie is refreshing and touching in such a bizarre world, lending it a touch of normalcy.

Despite the amount of names and information we're given in such a quick space of time, the story and characters still grab hold of you. And the abilities of Sarah J. Maas strikes you fully, as in five quick chapters you find yourself able to mourn characters you already feel like you knew as fast friends.

At first I was concerned that there was just too much information, too much going on and too many names to keep track of or to make sense of. But that's not the case at all. I was worried that I would not enjoy this little taste of Crescent City as much as I had enjoyed her other works, but in five short chapters I am already eagerly anticipating picking up the book to enjoy wholly.
