This is a great book for any fan of historical fiction, as there are a lot of historical facts. The storyline is unique with Young Aurelie struggling to understand the reasoning of her father putting a body on their roof to bury once the ground thaws. Who is this person and why is her father keeping them on the roof? Set during WWII, this is a great story about relationships and the choices that need to be made.

We as readers meet Aurelie , and follow her and learned about her experiences. We see nothing until Aurelie tells us. The imagery is both beautiful, and powerful. Aurelie‘s story will give a chance for emotional connections.
Crazy thing is we as readers don’t even know if Aurelie is actually dead or not.
It’s a story that will keep you reading , and reading. The author is of great , and exceptional phenomenal talent.

Flew through this book, and can’t wait to pick up more from the author.

This was an interesting book for me. I love Supernatural mysteries, but am not as fond of WWII novels. I much prefer WWI novels. The story starts with a funeral and a young girl named Aurelie watching as the body is placed on the roof to await Spring since the ground is too cold to dig a grave. She is confused as to who the body is and also why her family and friends are not speaking to her. It does not take the reader long to figure out what is going on, however since Aurelie is the narrator, the reader must follow the story through her eyes. Aurelie is not a reliable narrator so this adds to the mystery and confusion.

Through Aurelie we watch her family and friends try to survive and resist the occupation by the Germans of their corner of France. This is a novel of redemption, love, and the horrors of War. I enjoyed the journey, though there were some jarring Americanisms in language that took me out of the novel at times. Over all a great book for those who like a bit of Supernatural mystery,

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher Divinely Inspired Books and the author Debra Moffitt for a chance to review this book.
