Naruto was not quite what I was expecting. I had seen an episode or two of the anime growing up and mostly associated the franchise with the well known Naruto run. The series was much more lewd than I was expecting but it was a fun YA book that provides a healthy amount of action, romance and plenty of comedy.

I did enjoy this one and it was a nice opener to what is a long series. This has made me consider buying and carrying on. Not much plot wise to comment on as it is too early to make any reasonable judgements on the story as a whole.

I did like the nine tailed fox element and this is what has me wanting more, i am currently not attached to any characters.

One negative feedback i would have has nothing to do with the Manga itself. I believe you need to rethink the use of your Viz Media for review purposes only that is splashed over the centre of each page. This is very distracting and takes you out of the story being told.

It's always lovely to read the beginning of this series! Though...the way the English version translates the names of the jutsu is just plain awkward sounding. Nonetheless, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura have a fantastic introduction

Naruto is a young boy learning to be a ninja in a world where being a ninja is basically expected. With a nine-tailed fox demon sealed in him as a newborn infant to keep it from rampaging, he's an outcast in his village. He sets his goal to become the Hokage-- the hero and leader of the Konohagakure, so people will have to acknowledge and respect him.

This book is really old, but it's never too late to start a series! The world itself and the setting are quickly explained and set, as well as why Naruto is an outcast. It's unclear why Naruto was chosen, and also why he wasn't raised in an orphanage since his parents are dead-- or why they let the kid with their village's most feared enemy sealed in him just live alone and run free without any sort of supervision outside of his classes.

The whole thing with Mizuka was brutal, but also endeared Iruka to me in those last few chapters. Naruto is a very sympathetic character that fills the rebellious protagonist trope. His goal is pretty big, considering, but it's a shonen manga, so it fits.

Sakura's character seems limited to the boy-crazy girl trope, and Sasuke the brooding emo boy whom all the girls have a crush on, and, of course, is automatically Naruto's rival (as proclaimed by Naruto). Their teacher/sensei, Kakashi, is an interesting character who's entertaining, and also shows the skills of an adult ninja that the kids will learn as they grow up.

Overall, a good start to an interesting series!

I first read this during High School I believe and it was a library edition. I love the story about the lil ninja that doesn't know why people treat him differently and all he wants is to belong! :)

This was pretty good as expected, the anime is still better but this was such a quick and easy read and kept me more interested than other mangas that I’ve read.

ARC Copy...to be honest this is the first I read a volume from start to finish in full...and I can see why its so popular and nice world building on the ninjitsu mechanics and actual world itself.

This one was fun. I had heard of Naruto before but I had never read anything or watched anything that had to do with it so getting to read the first volume of the manga series was really great.

I like the art style and the plot was fun, if not a little confusing at some points. I didn’t like some of the characters and how they were presented but I did like how silly and determined Naruto is.

Overall, a pretty fun and solid start to the series. I’ll probably continue on if I can get my hands on the sequels.

3/5 ⭐️

"Naruto, Vol. 1" was tough to read with all the watermarks and the formatting. Nice to get back to the beginning again.

Naruto is the work of Masashi Kishimoto and follows the titular character as he works toward becoming a full-fledged ninja with the ultimate goal of being the best ninja in his village.

So, honestly, this was a re-read for me. I read Naruto in middle and high school as it came out in Shonen Jump, and then in scanlations online when I just couldn't wait. I am so happy to say that the story still holds up as an adult and I am full of nostalgia with reading this volume. This manga absolutely highlights all of the things I initially fell in love with about reading manga at all. Fun, accessible plot. Beautiful artwork. Strong, relatable characters.

If there were an equivalent of a classic edition in manga in the way there are for video games or traditional novels, I would expect Naruto to absolutely be on the list to get that treatment.
