Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for the ARC of this title. Dragon Ball is a bit of an institution and is immediately recognizable to many. The art style is true to the original and the cartoon, and is a draw for those who aren't necessarily readers but are familiar with the franchise. This is also a great one to recommend to the many Pokemon fans and those who are interested in manga. A fun and funny story that is a great gateway for reluctant readers, particularly boys. |
It was a little hard to read with the watermark at times. Other than that, I fully enjoyed reading about Goku. |
This series starts about 10 years after Dragon Ball Z ended, and there is peace on Earth. Goku is bored out of his mind- he's working as a farmer to provide for his family, but what he really wants to do is train and fight. Luckily for him, Beerus, the God of Destruction, has awakened from his long sleep with the urge to seek out a warrior known as the Super Saiyan God that he dreamed about. If you enjoyed Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, you're gonna love Dragon Ball Super- it's got fighting, it's got training, it's got a tournament, and fighters from two universes! All the stuff we love, with even more power! We've gone way over 9000 here! #DragonBallSuperVol1 #NetGalley |
My husband is a HUGE Dragon Ball Z fan, so when I saw this manga I had to read it, so I could at least attempt to understand his obsession. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this manga and I think I will continue to read them. |

My son is very into Dragon Ball Z so I had him read this and he loved it. He was able to follow the story and said it was fun and exciting. He enjoyed the action and said there was humour and the artwork was nice. He recommends it to all ages and gives it 5 stars. |
It was great rereading this book. It’s been a while since I’ve read it. However I had a hard time with the watermark on several pages. |
I grew up watching the original Dragon Ball (Z) animes on TV but this is my first time being able to read the manga. Super is a different take on what I grew up with but I loved it. This manga is just as captivating as the show with an amazing storyline and wonderful graphics. |
I grew up watching this anime. The manga was fantastic and brought me back to the beginning of this show. It was fantastic and it reminds me that there are various forms of enjoying the things you like. |
A new series that continues the Dragonball saga. A new threat is rising and Goku will have to save us again. This began as an anime and was adapted into a manga. The characters were interesting and there was a lot of action. Everything was done really well. It was easy to follow the story and action. Having never read or watched Dragonball I did not recognize characters. I think I should have started with Dragonball or at least Dragonball Z before starting this book. |
I don’t think I have to say much about the brilliance that is Dragon Ball that hasn’t been said before. What you’re getting is nonstop action and great characters that will not let up in any of the panels. I’ve been following Dragon Ball since 3rd grade and I am now THIRTY. That should tell you everything. This was a joy to read and I am happy I got a chance to read this manga. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley. |
I have loved Dragonball for a long time, so when I saw this I couldn’t help but get excited and NetGalley were lovely enough to let me read it. It jumps you straight into the action straight away carrying on form the events of Z. I have not yet watched the Super Anime, only the movies Battle of Gods and Resurrection F, so I know some of what to expect but also knew there was a lot more left to learn about. I was so looking forward to getting into this one with all my favourite characters and I was not disappointed. As with all Dragonball there was action, drama and a lot of humour. A must read for all Dragonball fans and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next volume. It leaves you right in the middle of all the action! I need to know what happens next. |
This manga is great. I highly recommend it, for anyone and any age. Goku and the other characters are fun, as is the story. Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read this book for my honest opinions. The art style is great too. |
"Dragon Ball Super, Vol. 1" was fun to get back to the beginning of the series. The watermarks and formatting made it hard to read. |
Dragon Ball Super, Vol. 1 by Akira Toriyama is a free NetGalley e-manga that I read in early February. The events of season 1 of the anime with a lot of scribbled forward-progression, celestial blasts, and exclamations during battle/combat. You get a better idea and indication of people's personalities and the extent of which they fight, though there's frequent cubey, blocky fills, instead of something being grayed, like the body of a Beerus-like god. |
