When You Wish Upon A Rogue is a spectacular historical romance by Anna Bennett. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Bennett has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a lovable assemblage of characters. Sophie holds meeting for fans of The Debutante's Revenge, a column she and two friends are responsible for. Sophie met Reese when she let herself into his building while looking for a new place to hold her meetings. Sophie and Reese's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits and a tiny dose of suspense. I adored this book and look forward to my next book by Anna Bennett. When You Wish Upon A Rogue is book 3 of the Debutante Diaries Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sophie must find a new location to host the meetings of the Debutante Underground, a growing group of women who meet weekly to discuss the latest advice column, The Debutante's Revenge. Reese owns an empty building perfect for the meetings. He has recently returned from war, having become the Earl of Warshire after his brother died. He also is suffering from the guilt of his best friend dying in battle after he left. The PTSD and grief have left him with insomnia. Sophie's calming influence enabled him to sleep for a few hours and he is desperate for her to return, thinking she is the reason he can rest. They grow closer but Sophie is promised to Lord Singleton. He is her family's only hope out of their financial problems. Singleton is not a developed character. What I didn't understand is why he would even want to marry Sophie. They have no affection for each other, her family is poor, in fact he pays the father's debts and the family's bills, the father is an alcoholic, they have no special social standing, etc. Anyway, Reese is someone you hope will overcome his demons to get stronger and the book was sweet and romantic.

Sophie leads a group of women who secretly discuss taboo relationship subjects in a weekly meeting. When she is looking for a new location for these meetings she meets Reese, Earl of Warshire.
Reese has night mares upon returning from war, and she manages to sooth him enough to make him get a restful sleep. He seeks her out afterwards to offer her a deal: his abandoned shop for her use in exchange for her helping him find sleep.
Meanwhile a man she does not love is waiting for her to announce their betrothal, which will save her family from the poor house.
I admit it - the setting and background story is somewhat far fetched, but the way these two get to know each other, overcome their personal demons, and fall in love is highly satisfying and swoon-worthy to follow.
Highly recommended!

This book was really sweet! I loved the previous book, probably a little more than this one, but I still really enjoyed this one. The main character Sophie leads a group of ladies that discuss The Debutante's Revenge, which is written by her friends. Sophie goes into a vacant building to look for a new meeting spot, only to meet the reclusive owner, Henry. He suffers from extreme nightmares, and as a result, doesn't sleep much. Yet Sophie is able to sooth his mind, and he sleeps well for the first time in a while. This is the impetus for the plot, with Henry asking Sophie to spend nights with him to help him sleep. In exchange, he offers her the use of the building as a meeting space. And of course, what begins as an innocent agreement quickly becomes romantic. I loved these two characters, and there were some great side plots as well! Sophie's sister Anna annoyed me, but otherwise I enjoyed everything.

I enjoyed this!

Exactly what I want in a regency romance.

I was wondering as the story progressed if this was the third in a series? The other writers of advice column seemed to have had their own stories and I might have enjoyed this one even more had I read those.

I was unsure of Sophia as a horticulturist? She was presented that way on the final drawing for the advice column, and she seemed good with plants but did I miss something?

Was that her calling prior to seeing the untended garden?

Overall a quick enjoyable read.

I loved Reese, the soldier who feels guilty he survived the war, and Sophie the kind spinster who always thinks of others first. The part with Mary and Charles was weird. I don’t think anyone would agree with that! Overall, I enjoyed this series very much. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

4 stars

I liked the previous book a lot. This one is still a good read but there seemed to be more anomolies. Assuming the book is supposed to be set in the UK and around the Napoleonic wars: we don't have Poison Oak over here, we don't usually refer to blocks when thinking of walking around and lastly I associate Tench war fare with later campaigns not the Peninsular ones. Sophie seems particularily daring for a young woman, she wanders around at night unchaperoned, not even a maid, stays out overnight and even gets into Hansom cabs (again wikipedia tells me these were patented in 1834 and city based) which appear to take her out to the countryside. The romance with Reese is well paced and has a fairy tale like quality. The passion ramps up and the sexual scenes are well written. He is a well described hero who I'm happy to say is supportive of Sophie and saves the day. I didn't really get that he was that roguish. Sophie doesn't seem to have any faults.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Sophie and Henry are just *sigh* so freaking adorable together.

Sophie is the leader of the Debutante's Revenge group - a strikingly progressive group of women who discuss a controversial weekly column penned by Sophie's close friends. The first rule of the group is, of course, we don't talk about the debutante's revenge, as is the second rule, etc... I see what you did there Anna Bennett - and I appreciated it. Sophie is a gardening enthusiast and her family's only hope for financial salvation. She is on the edge of announcing a betrothal to a man she doesn't love or even particularly like very much. But he has already agreed to salvage her family from financial ruin.

Henry is a war veteran who came into his title after his brother died while he was away at war. Since returning home he is swamped with grief, both for his brother (whom he idolized) and his friends who died shortly after he left them to come home and deal with the estate. He can't sleep and is struggling.

When he and Sophie meet for the first time, Sophie immediately takes him in hand and helps him to (finally) get a good night of sleep. After that Henry is determined to have Sophie help him again. He very quickly comes to realize that it was Sophie herself who helped him sleep - not any blend of herbs or tiredness.

Watching Sophie and Henry together is truly swoon-worthy. Sophie is determined to do the "right" thing for her family - but she is drawn to strongly to Henry to resist. Henry, intially, feels he is too broken to be worthy of Sophie - but ultimately comes to realize that what they have is too rare and too true.

I really really loved everything about this book - except for a small piece of the puzzle at the end. Which really took this from a five star read to a four star read. Not because it happened - but because it just really didn't make sense to me.

<Spoiler> It turns out that Mary, Sophie's sister, has been having a "dalliance" with Sophie's erstwhile fiance. At the end, Sophie finds out about it by catching them together. All the while her fiance is telling Mary that they can continue their liaison after he marries Sophie. What the what? First of all - why doesn't he just marry Mary then? And - is Mary really ok with that? she kinda seemed like she was. I didn't understand why the fiance didn't marry the sister he was actually in to. Unless he thought she was too weak of disposition? I didn't get it AT ALL. And then to have Sophie be ok with what her sister was planning to do. Even though she didn't love the guy or even want to marry him - STILL. This whole section just did NOT work for me and was very inconsistent with the rest of this really wonderful story.</spoiler>

Overall - a great read. Highly recommend.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book 3 in the Debutante Diaries series. This was a pretty good addition to the series. We have Reese the tormented Earl who finds he needs Sophia to soothe his nightmares. Sophia is looking for a location to have her meetings. a chance meeting finds romance growing. I did enjoy the story a great deal.

This was such a fun book! Sophie was a modern-feeling historical character and Reese was a lovely multi-dimensional character. I wish that there was more about Mary & Charles' subterfuge relationship, but it's probably a good thing there wasn't as it would have given the ending away.
Thanks for the opportunity to review this!

A sensual romance that will heat up your night! The dark, lost soul of an Earl finds his way out of the shadows and from his nightmares with the help from an unlikely source, a debutante, in this beautifully told story by Author Anna Bennett. She has written the most beautiful, hot and very sensual love scenes I've ever had the pleasure to read. This is a must read if you like your romance with lots of heat, and a little sex, but not overly much.

LOVED this book! I loved how the unlikely romance developed between Reese and Sophie. Sophie leads a women's group, Debutantes Underground. It's a secret group that focuses on women's issues and is a companion to the weekly newspaper column. Her search for a new and discrete location to meet leads her to a building owned by Reese and they reach an unusual bargain.

As Sophie and Reese begin to care about each other, Sophie feels as though she is overwhelmed by the marriage arrangement that her parents made for her with another man. In exchange for her hand in marriage, he will pay off her father's debts. Since their financial situation is dire, Sophie feels as though she has no choice.

I loved the way the characters interacted and the way the author has demonstrated some of the challenges women faced during the time period. I particularly liked Reese, the spare duke, and how he's handled himself, especially the way he put his own wishes aside to meet Sophie's needs.

If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book. While this is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, its' so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all.

The romance between Sophie and Reese was very sweet. The connection between them felt real and developed at a lovely pace. I wanted to love this book not only because of the sweetness but also because I am a huge fan of Anna Bennett; but in the end, the story was too rushed and the ending very contrived. It felt like Anna Bennett lite. Sophie’s sister, who shows no real character development throughout the book, betrays her and everything is fine? Reese’s brother commits suicide because why? Overall, an OK read.

Sophie is secretly involved with running a group for women who need empowering in their love lives. But Sophie will soon have to give this up, as well as any hope of true love, and marry for money in order to save her family. That's the plan. Until an earl requests something unusual from her...

I absolutely loved this book - couldn't put it down. The energy of the Debutante Underground and the loyalty of Sophie's friends really made me wish I knew these women. The hero is a delightful balance of darkness and kindness - I couldn't help but adore him.

As for the romance... pining and longing all wrapped up in a Hades and Persephone theme. Easily one of the best historical romances I've read recently.

What a delightfully unexpected story. Sophie and two friends start a group to support women in matters of the heart and what women should expect and desire from their partners in everyday life and the bedroom. The group is known as the Debutantes Revenge Society. I have no doubt that such groups did exist in Regency England. Women have and always will find ways to bond, talk and share knowledge. Every Friday night a large group of women meet to talk and discuss such matters. Their group is growing and new premises are required. This leads to Sophie meeting Reece, the new Earl of Warshire who is suffering from the unexpected loss of his elder brother and the death of his Army comrades in Portugal who he left when he returned to England to take up the reins of the Earldom.
Reece is haunted by these two losses and is unable to sleep. Sophie is the magic ingredient that delivers a peaceful nights rest to him. A bargain is agreed upon. What follows is an almost unconscious wooing of Sophie. Reece's gestures and actions are gorgeous. I would like to say more but every reader deserves to read these moments with no preconceived ideas. Just like I did.
However, Sophie's family are in difficult financial circumstances so Sophie is expected to marry Lord Singleton.
What I really loved about this story was the strong story of feminism that was gently explored. Plus all the simple charming gestures that Reece offered Sophie set in what was a most beautiful garden. The author's ability to describe and place me the reader in that space sharing that time with Reece and Sophie was perfection. I also loved how for most of the story I struggled to see how they would achieve their HAE. I knew it would occur but I was worried as the reader. Now that's clever to have a long term romance reader concerned! If you are a person that enjoys wooing and romance in your stories then you will love this book. It's a keeper for me and I will now read more of Anna Bennett. There were some red herrings in the plot that made it a fun read. I give it 4.5 stars as I thought the resolution that allowed Sophie and Reece their HAE not overly credible. However other readers might disagree. I was provided with this ACR and my review is honest and open.
