Natalie is Alex's second wife, and they’re happy, at least until the night he arrives home to find his house on fire, Natalie’s made it outside, but left his daughter Jade inside. Angry at this, he’s even more upset when Jade tells tells him she was frightened and hiding because a man was in the house, and Natalie denies it. Who to believe, wife or daughter? And what else is Natalie really hiding?

You know those books that after reading the first chapter you feel like you’re hooked and have to keep reading? This book definitely had me after just the first chapter. Natalie & Alex are together when there’s a tragic fire in their house. Natalie escapes without injury but Alex’s daughter Jade (from a previous marriage) ends up in the hospital. Natalie’s past catches up with her & Alex finds out she is not the person she says she is. Some of the storyline seemed a little far fetched but I would be interested in reading another book by this author. Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for the ARC.

As soon as I had read the first page I knew I wouldn’t be getting any sleep until till I had finished this great gripping book!!

Natalie is Alex’s second wife, when Alex is out Natalie and his daughter Jade are at home when a fire breaks out, he comes home to find that Natalie has escaped but his daughter is still in the house, Jade is found and rushed to hospital. She says that before the fire started there was a man in the house but Natalie is adamant that it didn’t happen.

Who do you trust? Daughter or wife? When a family’s home is set ablaze, opposite reports come from the two, and as the story unfolds the reader is is the one who benefits.

Alex put the pain of his first wife’s death behind him when he met Natalie. The idea that his teenage daughter, Jade, would have a woman to confide in, perhaps even to learn to love was just icing on the cake. But just when things seem to be going well, their hoe is destroyed by a fire. A fire that Jade believes a man she saw lurking in the shadows before the blaze may have been set. Natalie steadfastly denies seeing anyone, chalking Jade’s story up to grief and shock. Alex is left in the uncomfortable position of choosing which woman to believe, and it’s Natalie’s story that seems to have the most inconsistencies. Has he married a monster? Or is there something going on? Fleet pens a story filled with red herrings and surprises around every corner. Thoroughly enjoyable
