Desus and Mero write a fantastic book filled with knowledge that at times had me laughing so hard that I was crying and coughing. Then there are chapters filled me with knowledge and information that for a 38 year old white divorced mother from Iowa would never know and I was like “wow I can’t even imagine” and it pissed me off that people are so ignorant or mean. I love how these two men are able to take their lives and experiences and make what they want out of it by being a voice for themselves, not anyone else. They just say what’s on their mind and I really like that. I like how they talked about drugs and how they experienced it and how they will deal with it when their kids do it. I really enjoyed how both authors gave both their opinions and it’s in their way and they don’t care. I found this book to be refreshing from most because they let their personalities shine through and I felt as though they kept it real. They didn’t let any editor or anyone else invade in this book- it’s their knowledge and being a midwest divorced mom, I laughed and cried and laughed til I peed a little! It was fantastic!!

Thank you to Desus and Mero, Random House and NetGalley for this ARC.

My husband and I are huge fans of the Desus and Mero show on Showtime, so I was very excited to read this book. It was funny, and entertaining just like the show.

I love Desus and Mero: love their tweets, podcast, and both their VICE and Showtime shows, so I was extremely excited to hear they had a book. But the writing in ALL CAPS for Mero’s part made this book extremely painful to read to the point where I almost didn’t finish it. It’s not a long book, but whenever I got to Mero’s part, I had to take a deep breath before I read it.

If you know Desus and Mero then this book will feel familiar yet new in a variety of different ways. If you are unfamiliar then this book is a good introduction to the two who are transforming contemporary art and putting the Bronx (the BX) on their backs.
This book had me gasping for air from laughing so hard, yet had a certain poignancy that could only come from D&M. They give helpful advice from how to raise your kids to how to go on a date when your poor (popped) to how to accept a level of being washed that is inevitable in everyone's life. They also let you in on some secrets that you may be blind to like great things to do when you're smacked (high) or like how much a brick of blow costs, ALLEGEDLY. I promise you've never read a book like this and probably never will. It'll have you laughing until the back of your cranial hurts, pondering how to, ALLEGEDLY, boost some clothes just to return them, and considering smart, witty commentary and advice from two mordant, sagacious NY contemporary artists.

I'm only 15% through this book but so far the only knowledge dart I've received is that drugs are fun and font size shouldn't matter. I have watched their show on Vice and was a fan but I really was expecting more. We all know drugs are fun and that you do a lot of drugs. People who do a lot of drugs tend to think people who aren't doing a lot of drugs don't understand this. We do, it's well documented. I might skip around and see if there's more to it than this, but I'm very disappointed so far. Also using so much slang in a book rarely ages well, I fear this will be the case here too.

I have never listened to Desus & Mero, but I certainly enjoyed their comedy! A bit crass at times, but I came to understand that this is their brand and appreciated them for it. Their voices are distinct in their storytelling and I really enjoyed this book!

I was so excited when my arc approval came through that this book jumped to the top of my reading pile. This book is very much in the voices of Desus & Mero and feels a bit like a transcript of one of their podcasts. Each chapter has an overall theme, but tons of offshoots within the topic at hand. Mostly hilarious, but at times heartfelt, this is a great book for fans, and will hopefully attract new ones.
Looking forward to pub day, I've already pre-ordered my copy!
Thank you to the publisher, via NetGalley, for providing me with a copy for review. This in no way influenced my opinion.
